Does buying a secondhand car with high milage affect the cars performance and if so in what way ? And has anybody put this to the test buy the same car but with a large gap in mileage and see how the compare ?

It seems to be the exact same deal as in GT3 (i.e. mileage reduces engine power, oile changes bring some of it back...but you do loose power after so many kilometers (miles)). The main difference is that in GT3 it all started at about 200 miles, in GT4 it seems to start over 25,000k...

A great place to start, it'll definitely be superior to the rest :D

In Porsches, the cars get more powerful as they settle down. Porsches do it especially, I think break-in should be an important feature in GT5.

I believe there already is a breakin in GT3 after you have a car for awhile it does gain a few HP after a few races then eventually it does drop which is semi-realistic. I just can't wait to see if you abuse them redlining for the breakinperiod if they won't gain but drop instead as some reports say.

In GT3 a prize car had more power than a showroom car, though as the showroom car was driven for a few hundred (or whatever) km it eventaully reached the prize figure. After another amount of km the power reduced and eventually settled down to a figure higher than the original showroom power. Oil changes gave an increase in power (when used on a showroom car) and restored power on a car in need of an oil change though only to the level appropriate to the mileage on the car.

In GT4 a new car has a set amount of power whether from a prize or from the showroom. On immediately getting the car an oil change will give a 5% increase in power. After a certain mileage (this applies to all used cars other than the 10 km ones) this power reduces by 5%.

A used car will be 5% down on horsepower compared to the same car as it came out of the showroom. An oil change on getting a car with more than 10 Km on the clock will pretty much restore power to the level it was out of the showroom (to within 1 HP in some cases due to the percentages).

The 10 Km cars have the same amount of power as a new car from the showroom. It is a pity there is a limited number of them as it would have been good to get some of the cars with "new" power. (There is a list of these 10 Km cars on GameFaqs).
