Just a general note to everyone, the nether portal near my boat is currently broken for a reason, don't reactivate it, otherwise you can't get back into the overworld once you go through. (The Current Nether still has to be deleted so we can make a fresh one with the portal)

Also, Greifing (Purposefully breaking things or ruining things) and stealing is NOT ALLOWED, some users have been randomly breaking blocks around the place, this is not good behavior.
This is not a "fend-for-yourself" type server either, I've been hearing way too many reports of people stealing items all day. Rule of thumb is, if there's a chest (that's not in a dungeon), and it's not yours? Don't mess with it. If you didn't place those non-natural blocks? Don't touch them, please. :)

In other news, I've made a minecart track from the station to "Bethesda" (My Fort on top of the mountain southwest from spawn), it goes underwater through the lake south of spawn (in a glass tunnel!). Just waiting on Dunc to put a starter in the station for it (There's a temp one just outside the front of the spawn station).

As I have let people know all day, someone stole both two stacks of logs, and a stack of redstone, and I'd be very glad to see those back.

And, as in WallRunner's case, in other news, Point Zero Lake is now complete, with its own little dam, and a size large enough to be easily seen on a map. Also, a bit of a question:
2011-06-02_215217.png

You will notice I am near the top of the map. You will also be informed that the center of the map is my house, near the spawn.

Whose workbench is this?

EDIT: Point Zero Lake is the near square right next to my hearts.

Strangely enough, I vaguely remember being up that way once with a workbench, it might be mine!

You're a long way from home, boy. [/cowboy]

EDIT: I do however claim either that top right crescent shaped chunk of land, or I claim the plains that aren't visible in the top left.

Dunc, when are you getting the server onto a better computer... it's laggy as hell. :/

I think it's more to do with the poor internet connection where the server is. I guess it would help if I could allocate more memory to the server but I'm not sure how to do that yet!

This is rather annoying. Considering this server is not advertised to the public, I thought we would have very low chance of greifing. I had hoped that the banned list would stay empty but names will go in it if needs be.

Some people work for hours/days on projects and if some little ass thinks it's funny to destroy their hard work, they will not be welcome in our server.

Add -xms512m and -xmx2048m (or whatever value you want, higher values are better - allocates more memory to the Java VM) to the command line parameters of the server, assuming you're launching it from a batch file or MC admin software that lets you edit the startup parameters, and the host machine has >2GB of memory (don't set xmx to a value higher than the amount of RAM installed in the server machine! lol). From personal experience Minecraft requires quite a lot of RAM to run a server smoothly, even a dedicated one - my laptop with a 2.1GHz dual-core and 2GB of RAM has trouble getting a dedicated server to run well with only me + two other people on it  Hell, I can't even act as server + client on my i5 quad with 4GB system memory without something lagging into next week.

What are the specs of the server, btw?

2Ghz Xeon Processor 2GB RAM. It's quite old!

I've checked the startup and it's set to 1024 which apparently is the maximum you can set in 32bit Java. I ran a speedtest which gave 2.55 down and 0.30 up. I think the upload is more the problem.

WOW! this thread has been revived and has advanced alot since I last saw it about 2 months ago.

I have never actually played minecraft online. Singleplayer heaps, but no multiplayer.
would my slow computer slow down the overall performance of others? (oh god, I feel like such an idiot for saying that).
Any chance I could join the server here? (i'm seriously ok with a no, just a reason would be nice) my username is the same as my gtp username.

Your performance shouldn't affect anyone else's playing at all. And you're free to join, I'll see if Dunc can add you right now!

Never your connection will not affect other users. Even with 5-8 players on the sever it's still playable. Dunc just plans on moving the server to his house when he has the chance to do so. His house has a better internet connection and that is slowing us all down. If anything the additional 512MB of RAM should help a little bit with downloading chunks and letting the server take a little bit more RAM for the bukkit plugins.

Thanks!

err... slight issue I have. how does one connect to a server? (apart from 'click multiplayer')(again, feel like an idiot for asking)

You've been added. Your computer won't affect the server. I don't think it could get any slower anyway!

Not so much when I get the chance, more when I can get hold of a decent piece of hardware to put it on. Can't really afford buying a new machine at the moment.

Click on multiplayer and type in: dqcraft.dyndns.org:22222

:)

We could do with an online map showing where people's houses houses/mines are, and whose land is who's

There is a plugin that allows you to view the map from a bridseye view (googlemap type thing) that runs in REAL time! i.e. you can see people walking around and building stuff. It would KILL the server though!

When friend's server was online it had that plugin. Had a little lag with 4-5 people and this server had the minecart mod. That server was an AMD dual core similar to my slightly better Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 at stock clock. If anything, Dunc's server is more suited to be a server than a regular consumer PC.

If you ever get the money I'd love to help you part out a new PC to serve as a server.

Ok, someone IS arsing about on this server. I was just working on the arena and turned around to find a section it on fire. After putting it out I looked below and found a lit piece of netherack underneath the cobblestone that had set fire to the wood above it. It might have been there quite a while before it set fire. I'm gonna look through the logs and see who was on today. Someone wont be visiting this server any more.

It was weird. The netherrack was on the ground, there was a two block gap, then a block of cobble then blocks of wood on top of that. The netherack managed to burn through the cobble (without damaging it) and after a while set fire to the wood. I had been in that exact area for 10 mins and didn't see anyone so it could have been burning for a while.

I don't know why people do these things... :scared:

Luckily my house is stone and dirt...

Hopefully this evening at some point. Might be going to the pub after work though so we'll see!

I'm just waiting for my house to get burnt down again now, curse myself for making it out of wood

That is strange. I assume you have a half decent internet connection. I seen to remember you have a lot of trouble with Flash/Java. Is this the browser version or did you download it.

Flash/Java problem most likely. I have to download the 'new version' all the time even though I already have done so several times. I guess I'm fighting other websites that need a certain version of Java inorder to work. It was the browser version I was using. Download the game? Which one do you suggest?

Peaceful mode has been turned off. Light strike has been fixed so I can strike people with lightning if they piss me off. And Mob Arena has been installed, I just need to configure it in game and finish of the actual arena which I hopefully will be able to do tonight.

*edit*
There's only one download available as far as I'm aware and that's from the main site. You have to have purchased the game though.

I'll give you all instructions on how to activate it once it's fully configured and I've tested that it works.

When it is up and running and you want to earn some goodies, you'll be able to instantly transport yourself there! Cue everyone teleporting into a void!

i almost shat my pants , haha was digging down in a mine , and all the sudden i hear a scary sound :) haha but now i do know peaceful mode is off :)

Mob spawns are crazy! I just spent 30 minutes lighting up my town for them to start spawning in 1x1x2 cubes inside my walls!

On greifing: Someone has taken out two wooden bridges I built near the ship. Please get checking those logs so we can figure out who it is :)

Unfortunately all I can do at the moment is see who has been online at any given time. There must be plugins that can help so I can look into it. I can turn off fire but that won't protect against digging damage and would disable portals. Speaking of which, I regenerated the Nether earlier so you can have another go at it.
