Dunc, my start-up disk is filling up rapidly.

Both when the server is on and offline. This morning I had 6GB now I have 23MB. Is this SUPER dangerous for my computer?

EDIT: Just reached 0KB and my server crashed. Is this bad? D:

That is bad! Is it the world that's taking all the space?? There's no way it can be 6GB!

No, the bukkit file is only 100MB!

So I did a stupid thing and moved all my iTunes music onto my external hard-drive. 75GB of memory now available. But 2-3 hours of locating music is ahead of me. :ouch:

Maybe its time I did what you have done, and build a server.

If you don't mind me asking, how much (In AUD if you can be bothered ;) ) Would a basic server set-up (Like yours) cost me to buy/build?

Less than 100. I wouldn't reccomend it! Go for something more powerful. A simple desktop with at least 2GB of RAM will do the trick. The higher the clock speed the better as Minecraft can't use multiple cores.

I am going to do a re-boot since Java has been running for 14 hours. I'll see what effect that does.

Dunc, if you're still looking at external hosting then I'd be willing to put some towards it each month if required. I'm sure a few others would do the same, too. It's very kind of you to run this one for free but if it needs to be moved then I'd like to think that people would help out, given how often some of us use it.

I guess he jumped down? :p

@Rykon: You could always build it below sea level.

:p I bet it would have seen purposely to some people if they were there, but it wasn't. I was exploring the grassland around it,and when I was trying to go down the hill, a cloud came, therefore, I couldn't see, and fell to my death. I went back to look for them again, but had no luck. :ouch: Clouds.

Edit - Hey DQ, I have a friend who would like to play on the server, he doesn't have a GTP account, but does visit as a guest often, is it possible he could join the server? If so, his user name is thewhippets.

As Dunc said, get a better one than his! I found this(tried my best at locating a Oz store) and that comes at about 285AUD. All you need to do is supply yourself a case, hard drive, and OS and you are good to go. Though if you need to go cheaper look at the Athlon II X2 series CPU. They run pretty cheap and are decent for a server.

That's VERY cheap. I could buy one of those today. :dopey: Except, I would then need to go and buy a Hard drive and a case. And to wait for shipping. :P

I had an idea for a medium cost ($800) Gaming-style computer, but I don't think I am ready to commit to $800 of computer.

I'd be able to run Mac OS on any type of system build, correct? (Noob Question)

Also - I have a pathethic suggestion for Duncs server. -

Please - Don't try to upload anything you made in offline mode - it kinda defeats the purpose since you, in offline mode can use MCEdit etc.

I, for one, would like to keep the server "made here by users who dug out their own cobble" -

Exceptions can of course be made, as with the Enterprise which Dunc kindly placed at my doorstep - and noone would claim anyway..

Just a thought..

No.. Not unless you hack your MacOS - It'll look for a Mac branded chip on the mobo...

I'm completely for this, if it weren't for the fact I won't be able to play for a year come the ninth, so I'm running out of time for my villa.

Chances that the server will be here with the same world on the ninth of August 2012? (-:

Hey Dunc - Did you break the server? (-: It's been way more than 5 minutes..

Nope, started watching a classic GP while waiting for it to restart and completely forgot to start the server after!! Sorry!

How come?

If you are planning on having this machine separate from another one which you will use then just get Win7 Basic 64-bit and install that on the server. You could solve that slow shipping problem. Try out Amazon prime and you'll get access to $4(USD) one day shipping.

Here's a case
, Hard drive, and DVD drive. This all together would be a really nice server to play around on.

It's okay! I solved the problem!

AND I cleaned up my computer, which I have been wanting to do for a VERY long time. (30GB free and all my music is back to it's original place)

What happened was; Cause Minecraft runs on 1.5 Java and the Plug-Ins for all MC servers run on 1.6, the computer had two Java's running. Each one using (After being on for 14+ hours) 2GB of space. All that was required was a simple restart and it was back to normal. :)

Thanks to Flerbizky for helping me out!

EDIT:

How often do you reboot your computer Dunc? And how much space do you have free on your computer?

Three solid days working on this building. It is almost complete, but I want to tell a short story.

A few minutes ago, I decided that the rooms should be pre-lit, before anyone moves in, or claims them. So I proceed to light up the rooms, then it begins to turn dark. No problem, I've got it on peaceful.

No, big problem. Guys, don't make your hallways more than two times taller than they are wide. It creeps you the hell out. Especially if they're ground lit, and have no lights at the top. I nearly shat myself looking out of a window, because I thought I saw Herobrine or something. Nope, just the door across the way. I think this place is haunted and it's not even done.

Anyway, there's 22 rooms for you to claim, two which don't have windows, two which have weird window placement, and in addition to those 22, two presidential suites. All of these are 10 blocks tall, and designed for an easy split level modification.

I will post pictures when the thing is complete. (At least what I'm doing on my own computer)

Once every few days. Space is not an issue. It only has an 80GB drive but all that is installed is Windows and Minecraft. Minecraft is about 1GB including the weeks worth of backups. There are also some small programs for remote access, AV and dyndns but I still have 70GB free.

They do have computers and internets in Germany (-:

Beat me to it!

Yep. And I'm sent home if I spend too much time on them. Too much, as in an hour a day. They will, very specifically, not tolerate that BS. I'm supposed to be out learning, not playing games. I actually agree too, so I'm personally cutting that out of my life.

Hate to say it, but that sounds horrible - all work and no play etc. etc. etc.

I'll be doing other stuff hopefully. Evidently by mid year, I'll have so much stuff to do, I won't care about computers.

I won't be on for the next week or so. A few of the items in my shop could get out of stock, sorry in advance.

Soon... Very soon...

Ok, it's in. It'll need a little work around the edges to make it flush with the landscape. Other than that it's looking good. Big!

Rykons mansion is massive, with a rather nice view. I do appologies for the rather large forest that I have grown at the front of the mansion. I will ensure it doesn't encroach onto the grounds too much.

Just got this.
screenname EnkiGilbert, please add me to that whitelist,

I was confused at first because it didn't say anywhere that the monsters don't go away when the daylight comes, and then I was scrambling to cut down trees from underground so I could make a sword and tools :p but now I've got a lot of different stuff.
