My obsession with the Nordschleife (Assetto Corsa)

One only needs to take a look at the photo-thread, to see how often I've been firing-up AC to take the P1 around it.

I absolutely love the ring. It's pretty much all I drove in GT4, & spent much time on it in GT5 & GT6 as well. I think AC's version is the best I've ever seen & spend most of my time just driving cars on it for fun. Best track in the whole world.

:D

I also really like this AC version of the Nordschleife track:tup: It is one of the best versions that I keep coming back to recently (8am early of course). I like the overgrown look and all the realistic course detail i.e high kerbs, crests, cambers and writing on the track. It does seem slightly wider than other games from cockpit view and this gives more of a realistic driving feel of how videos look around it (I have never driven a real car around this track) if they are all laser scanned I wonder how it feels so different to other games.
Of course I had to take some screen captures of the detail from the replays :D

I can't believe I missed this thread! The Nordschleife is probably my favorite road/track. It's absolutely perfect for road cars & race cars. I'm not sure I can think of another layout like that. One of the best things about playing on the PC is with Content Manager we can select "Real Conditions" and it will automatically set your track settings to the actual temperature at the track at that very moment, along with the proper weather settings and correct local time. Unfortunately, since AC isn't a 24hr game we lose that bit of realism...but I hate night driving anyway. :P

Once I send this message I'll go run a few laps in Heavy Fog & 52.2°F weather. :D After I've totaled 3 or 4 cars, I'll take a break. Oh...I also switched my Nordschleife to the Autumn Colors mod. It just looks more lively than all green trees.

The only track I've yet to complete a single clean full lap!
It's devastating to me! It gets me crazy! It makes me wanna sell this game and quit sim racing forever!

It takes some time to learn the track. Choose your own brake markers, know where to throttle etc but once you're in control it is amazing. And then you get too enthusiastic and hit the barriers again. Start over and over and over ;)

Don't know if it helps for you but I started with slow cars to learn the track better and then increased speed, choose other faster cars and so on. Still not an alien but quite happy with the pace and times.

BTW Noob me had shadow of the trees as some braking markers on the track. After long practicing without quitting the session more shadow appears and then chaos started :dopey:

Thanks man, I'll try with shower cars but it's a very long track and hard to memorise like any other regular track!
Any recommendations on what car exactly to start with? Some cars are slow but still tricky to control!
And yeah i can imagine the frustration and chaos! What a hard track really!

haha and once you have set a very good first and second sector the nerves kick in and sector 3 you start to drive too cautious (at least that's often how it overcomes me)

Alfa 4c because of its stability or the Ford Escort because it is well 1970's

Did you aready try some Nordschleife laps with the Escort ;) Challenging right?

Take the Mazda MX5, Alfa Mito, Audi S1, BMW or any cruizing road car. Try to drive with TC off.

I drove a ridiculous amount of laps around the full Endurance layout this weekend. I had the 24hrs of Nurburgring playing on my laptop screen while I plodded along on the race track, hoping to survive yet another lap...and then another...and then another. It was fun. Oh, I almost forgot. On the PC, with the help of Content Manager, I was able to set the time and weather conditions to the actual time & weather at the racetrack. It was fun watching the temperature slowly increase during my several sessions. Of course, it would be much better if we had a 24 hour cycle.

I really hope any potential future version of Assetto Corsa can incorporate driver swaps. I think it would be really cool for us to put together some teams for our own endurance races.

I am also trying to learn the Nordschleife better.

Just started Assetto Corsa up on PS4 about a week ago.
(I got it on PC the same day I got the early release of DiRT Rally, so ... yeah, I never got around to more than a few practice laps on AC)

Started out in 'Practice', on the Nordschleife with one of my real life cars, the little red miata.
No aids, shifting with the clutch, heel-toe, lots of crashing into armco.
Very painful, virtually and emotionally painful.
Finally got a 'clean' lap.

In honor of Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus and driver Jeff Westphal taking pole position in qualifying for the 24 Hour race this year, I took the 003C around the 24H circuit.
Just switched to auto-clutch for the paddle shifters, still no aids or auto-blip jazz.
This car is a Beast. I only 'rubbed' the barriers twice, ... well, three times, if you count the end where i forget that it's the endurance circuit, not the classic :D
'Damage' switched off for practice, so keep calm and carry on.

I love driving the green hell in the sweet morning sunshine, and I'm getting to know her better <3
