To me, "tandem" drafting is not racing because you have to rely exclusively on your partner to make moves. With pack drafting, you can choose by yourself when to make a move unless you're completely boxed in.

Yes.
And to me, another serious problem with last year's rules is the drivers talking to each other over radio and making arrangements to affect the outcome of the race. This smacks of "fixing" the outcome, and is something not to be tolerated by fans and true sportsmen. So I'm glad NASCAR has banned driver to driver radio communications.

How many Green-White-Checkered finishes are there going to be this season due to phantom debris on the track right at the last lap?

Back in 2010 it was about right at Talladega. We had two car break away but they were in catching distance of the pack. That was a good mix.

Totally agree.

Tandem drafting has been around long before the repavement at Daytona. In the 2008, 2009 and 2010 seasons, there was a real nice, sweet combination between the two where you could only tandem draft for about one or two laps which would be the finish.

I think Nascar has got it spot on with its Winter Testing. A compromise between pack and tandem would be ideal in my opinion which looks where they are heading at the moment.

Got a horrible feeling we might have a wreckfest on our hands tonight and next week.

I agree that a good mix of the two is important, more so than straight off outlawing it. Theyve been bump drafting for much longer than tandems, but bump drafting often was not all the way around the track for 5+ laps. Thats out of hand in my opinion

We all saw what happened to Busch as Stewart was pushing him into the corner. He had to go right to pass, so Stewart had the wrong angle on the bumper, and around she went. Two top drivers trying the technique, but ending badly. That can and must be a lesson to all. We can hope that the owners, drivers and crew chiefs will keep things neat and tidy until the final stint.

Yeah, I hope tonight's race will be like a practice session for the drivers. I know we'd all like to see wrecks but not wrecks that put the safety of drivers in danger.

Y'know, drivers will be drivers and as I think Mark Martin said it in his Media Day Interview.

'Drivers will adapt to anything and get better at it and push the limits of what is available.'

Got high hopes for the Penske guys this weekend.

Its quite amazing to think that if we were driving 200 mph on the M25 and hit the back of another car going at 50 or 60 mph, we'd probably be killed but in NASCAR, in this COT, you'll live with probably minimal injuries. Crazy.
 
I must say the Furniture Row car is looking quite nice for the 500 with the gloss black paint and chrome/black wheels. :)

The same thing was proven in 2010 when Lagano was pushing into the corner. The way the cars are set up they will not tolerate being pushed on the left side of the bumper and they just go around. If you stick to the right side or middle of the bumper in the corners the cars will do fine with the push, passing or not.

I'm surprised that no one is talking about the illegal/modified parts on Jimmie's car that Nascar found yet again for another season start.

Does anyone know what exactly were wrong with the c-posts. Were they shaved down too much or bulging out? I knew about the infraction, but not exactly what the reason was.

All I've been able to find is that the c-posts were illegally modified.

They were subtly recontoured to take some air off the spoiler - lose downforce, hence lose drag and go faster. They failed the template test.

Other than a fine, I don't think there will be any punishment meted out by NASCAR to Chad Knaus. But I'm not certain. Nothing will be decided until next week.

So they pushed the envelope. This is good. It's what champions do. They got caught by a vigilant NASCAR and now nobody will attempt this same trick again. The sport has become so competitive, that the natural and logical tradition of exploring any and all ways to gain an advantage is continued, as it should be. Hats off to Hendrick Motorsport, Chad Knaus and Jimmie Johnson, and better luck next time.

Aaahh, very sneaky Mr. Knaus. Thank you sir.

So I guess an untimely bump to the left rear in the turn would not be so kind with less downforce. Maybe its better it was caught by NASCAR.

From what I heard, the worse they'll have is a fine becaue this happened Before practice so Chad won't be suspended. The only reason he was last time this happened was because the car was modified after practice and before Qualifying

Ford has them covered...I think. It seems they have the cooling issue under better control than the others.

It would amuse me to see Ambrose win.

I'm an RCR fan, so anyone of their cars will do. I wouldn't complain if Keselowski won though.

If Dario Franchitti can't market the series, Indy's doomed. I'm an American man and even I can see the sexiness of that man. :P

Will Power's a good voice to the series, too.

Dario's awesome, the fastest Scot in the world :lol:

I hope Indy doesn't take a nosedive just because it's pretty little poster girl has jumped ship. Anyway, back OT...1 to green!
