While I understand your point and the fact that LA may not be bustling with night life IRL, but does LA not have any pedestrians? Are the roads constantly wet as well? Is it raining 75% of the time?
This is a game. And the world in the game is a depiction of a city. I understand the aesthetic and style they were going for, but it doesn't excuse the fact the world still feels empty to me. So what if there little traffic IRL? Its a game! (there should at least be the option for more.)
Furthermore, there's little to no incentive to explore the world. Aside from a measly 12 free parts (however I'm sure there will be more in the final game) there's no incentive to explore the world. I mean, unless you want to do donuts in random places and let the game take a photo for you.. then sure.
Yes it's easy to say "it's a game" but that's your take or expectation of it, we know that Ventura Bay is like that of LA and based on the city and when you have the "Icons" like Magnus that probably worked in part with GG that comes through. Furthermore, that comes through more so than the idea of "well it's just a game so I think what we'll do is model the city but give it a more vibrant feel that is unlike it". Once again it seems to me that GG went about making a game that was similar to what they were modeling and not deviating too much from it.
As for the rain, LA gets a good amount of rain during the Fall but more so during the Winter time up until about April. So with that said half the year might have rain on and off. So I really can't tell you how much it rains their...maybe 30 to 40% of the year. Though I haven't seen anyone else make much noise or claim that the game has tons of rain.
As for options we can go in circle for the next several months discussing how racing games across the board should have far more options then they do. If they did they'd still stay true to the idea they had for the game they wanted to give people, and appease those people who don't like it at the core level.
