Why is it much easier for microsoft to build a network infrastructure then sony ? Anybody can build network and if you can't do it, you hire someone who can do it. We are talking about companies that make billions each year. so no excuse

The Ps2 hardware was not design for online experience. Sony didn't believe that online console gaming would be that popular and didn't bank on it.

The more I read your post, you are trying to find excuse to defend Sony + KY + PD for they're lack in offering what gamers really wanted. They wanted ONLINE at launch. ask anyone. They have failed miserably and the promise of making an extension for online later is keeping your hopes up. Anyone remember Sega GT online ?

Now Sega is not PD and the chances that the online expension will failed are almost null. The facts remains that you will have to pay top dollars twice to enjoy a feature that should be included in ANY racing games in 2005.

Let's get something simple to sideline this with so you can see where I'm coming from.

Microsoft has 30 employee's with knives and logs, they widdle toys all day long. Then MS wants to get into another business, so they say, "hey, let's use the resrouces we have, and have people also make clocks!"

Then there's sony, and they sell logs. However, they want to get into the toy making business, and possibly clocks as well.

It is much easier for MS to be successful given their resources etc. So, while it is completely possible, and i"m not disagreeing iwth you there, it is understandable that they will be behind the power curve. Do you understand what I am getting at now? I'm not "defending" anyone, I'm simply explaining.

Sucks that it's not here, but it's understandable. If you can't understand it, you are expecting too much from the PS2.

I think everybody is dwelling on the negatives too much.

No Damage - DEAL WITH IT. It never has had damage ever before and not only that unless it's real-time like in GT5 go home... Do you really like it when it shows a pre-rendered smashed up car of yours??? I sure don't...

No Online - I have strong faith in PD and I don't ever recall them to say that they will release something and they don't. It will come... Be patient.. Cmon boys FAITH! :sly:

Poor A.I. - GET OVER IT. There are VERY few racing games where cars don't drive on lines and does it take away from the enjoyement of driving your own car?? Not for me, and if it does for you, piss off stop whining.

Poor Sound - My ***. This game has the best engine sounds since NFSU2 and beside NFSU2 recorded a Ferrari for the imports.

No 2 Player Memory Card Battles - I'd have to say this is the real killer. I really really loved doing this with my older cousin, we had great times racing each other in GT2, I'm sure many others have memories. Let's just cross our fingers for the US Version supporting 2 player mem card battles. As for the PALers, no problem here.

If you have any other complaints please call 1-800-SCREW-YOURSELF or visit us on the web at www.gt4kicks***goscrewyourself.com

Have a good day. 💡

So you think no 2p memcard battle is the real killer because you really liked to do that in GT3. Well, other people didn't, so for them it's not really a big thingy so stop whining  . I say this because we have to stop whining cause you don't think the other things you mentioned are problems. The AI thing for me is a problem because I don't play GT with other people. As I can imagine, there are other gamers like me that don't play with others either. So if the AI sucks you can imagine some people are pissed off about it and start whining.

Soo.....what exactly did PD improve over GT3, apart from the physics model?

I'm not trying to start an argument, but it's pretty hard to find many improvement's after playing GT4 for over a month now. No, it's not a BAD game, but it's a major dissapointment considering what could have been.

I think it's hard for any company that has build a very succesfull franchise to change any of the core game play. It's a very hard risk to take. You can upset your current fanbase by changing too much of what they have like so much.

As I was playing different build of GT4 (prologue and japanese demo), I like the overall feel of the gameplay mechanic but was deceive with the poor AI improvement. I think this is where the game lack. Other then that, it's a very good quality product that I will enjoy on February 22nd

I Bought GT prologue within the first week of release in the u.k, great game better graphics and noticible difference in the physics. within 3 weeks i had completed the driving school and colected the majority of Gold awards, by this time ive become bored of gt prologue, i then purchased the Driving Force Pro. Its only until NOW ive become bored of gtprologue, To get the most out of GT4 you need Driving force pro, it Enhances the gameplay alot, I think gt4 will only reighn supreme as long if you own the DFP.
thats just my opinion. :)

They also state how the copy they reviewed was an import from Japan, but proceed to say that besides some minor changes to the soundtrack and car roster, our version (NA version) should be identical (not a WILL be identical, just a should be... lol).

they dont have a clue what sony has instore, i dont think sony even knows...

**"...it will let you show your GT4 skills off online months before Sony releases whatever online version of expansion of GT4 it's planning." This may be new news for some, granted thats all the more that was mentioned about such a releasein this issue of the magazine.

Yes but it seems as though they never listened to their fanbase, all it is is another GT2 but with better physics, it seems they're going around in circles. What next, a showcase for PS3, then another "encyclopedia" 2 years after GT5?

Here's how I look at it: After playing GT3 I wanted GT4 to have BMWs that were actually worth a damn, more tracks, more Le Mans cars, more realistic engine sounds, and graphics equal to GT3. Come Feb 22 I will have all that and then some.

If PD were to sacrifice any of those things just to put in damage I'd be pissed off. I don't particularly like bumping into things when I drive. This isn't NASCAR. Yeah I wish the AI was a bit smarter and aggressive. But that's okay, because that means that I'll still be playing Grand Prix Challenge for an actual challenge. As for 2 player, my best friend and I always dislike the split screen. We found a much more entertaining way to talk smack to each other. We race in single player and save the ghost. And race against the ghost for the better time. We get more enjoyment out of that than bumping into each other on the track.

So other than not having Ferrari or Lambo and online, GT4 will have everything I wanted. I just wish they wouldn't have promised online racing earlier. That got my hopes up. But I'm sure it would have been overrun with gameshark cheaters anyway.*cough*NFS:U*cough*

I agree that the encyclopedia mentality seems to be the wrong way to take a racing game, 100-200 different cars should me more than enough for me.

your points are dumb. you just basically told everybody that has problems with aknowledged flaws to get over them. that's like telling fat people to eat less.

What I'm saying is...it's a glandular problem. Oops I meant use your brain before you rationalise things away.

GT4 has flaws, but it's still undeniably righteous. That doesn't change the fact that people are DISAPOINTED, you can't make that go away, and you can't stop them from whining about it. When you're disapointed about something you were eagerly anticipating, it's like a part of you is dead. It's a sinking, hollow feeling that makes you pissy and irritable. Being near a keyboard when you're pissy and irritable produces mixed results.

To me, GT4's title of "the drive of your life" or "the real driving simulator" should just be replaced with "placeholder" or "the last boring one, we promise"

edit:

Just to elaborate on why people are losing their patience with the series, and why people say it's running around in circles: a game being called a driving game is weak. No excuses, it's weak. This is a racing game, you race against other cars on RACE tracks, you don't shuffle around the streets in driving conditions (that would be dull, no?)

Making a game that appeals to certain people because they're obsessive doesn't make it a good game. A game needs good structure, gameplay, challenge, and, hopefully, offers a new experience. Many people here that are DEFENDING THE GAME say racing the a.i. is pointless, that it's a driving game. I don't see any games for gun nuts that just involve you servicing guns and firing them at a range. That would be incredibly dumb and boring. You'd need something to shoot, to add excitement, and cool levels and music, and a story to make a good shooter. Therefore, GT needs a compelling racing dynamic (hopefully the online disk isn't a joke and it doesn't cost full price) to complement the physics. But people buy this "car encyclopedia" bull**** and actually use it in defense of a game that sorely needs shaping up when it comes to the actual gameplay experience.

The fact that other racing games are much more fun to play than GT3 should have been a sufficient kick in the pants for PD to revise their gameplan. But, as T5-R said previously, they seem to arrogant or ignorant of their fans to change the formula. No joking, in a recent interview, Kaz said he didn't make the GT series for fans, but for himself. That kinda says it all.

Best post of the day.

I'm a huge GT fan, but I also have experience in other racing games just as deeply. I've still yet to see AI methods in GT as well executed as Test Drive LeMans/ Le Mans 24 Hrs., Grand Prix Challenge (same developer) or even TOCA 2.

GT has a lot of improving that is long overdue. Granted, what it does, it does better than anyone else within the industry. However, poor AI, lack of Mem-card Garage battles (TBA for US release) and supreme Japanese vehicular bias has no excuse for it. What happened to the simulated damage from GT2's arcade mode? Hell, I understand that it's better not to do something, than to half-ass it (ala Forza's damage model), but COME ON. Gimme somethin' to go on.

No matter how much one tries to use the marketing buzzwords as a crutch, an excuse is an excuse. And this is coming from a GT fan as well.

Seriously, how many goddamned Skylines do we friggin' need, man?! Where's my mutha'f'n Shelby Cobra GT 500, DAMMIT?!! *calming down, calming down*

If Kaz wanted to make a real encylopedia of cars, then he should have simply headed over to fast-autos.net or supercars.net, simply cut n' pasted most of the roster there and begin working from that reference material. Seriously, if I wanted a Loctite Zexel GT-R, then I'd simply apply the damned decal myself on a self customized version. Taking into consideration IF(!) they would even give me the option, that is. Or give me, at least, the option to simply palette swap the car considering that it's the exact same car as the Calsonic and the Mobil GT-R's. I don't care about yet ANOTHER FR wide-bodied Skyline that's the same as the others.

I love everything that GT4 has to offer so far and hopefully(!) more will be implemented/corrected in the most important US release this month. However, it's dumping its fair share of disappointments where yes, it does give you the feeling of losing your momentum of support and simply hollowing you out in the process. Seems to me that now I have to run to Enthusia for stronger racing mechanics and suffer through Forza's lackadaisical 30fps, faked damage model performance just to get a complete meal that should've all been implemented into one cohesive whole. ONE game, not 3 different versions of the same expression.

Polyphony needs to get the **** off of their high-horse and give us what the hell we want. Or next time, they won't get most of us at ALL. :grumpy:

Well I just read the posts from last night and I must say I'm pretty shocked. It's not that GT4 is the best or the worst. We were just saying yesterday that it's down to personal preference. It's the way GT4 fans make things personal and ridicule any reasons why people voice their dissapointment with GT4. That's what infuriates me.

When someone has an opinion things go a lot better if you tell them you understand it and respect it, even though you may not agree with it. That works a lot better than trying to discredit them and basically telling them to stick their problem up their a**.
Couldnt agree more. Its quite aggrevating, when people get so offended by simple criticism, but, that seems to be the case with so many GTfans

You know what really pisses me off? When you take an underpowered car on an 8 lap 2 minute a lap race against an Sauber C9 and 787 and lose only because the AI is too stupid and rams you off the road because you went in "their" line. I mean WTF was the point driving cleanly and overtaking without bumping for this to happen on the last lap? REALLY annoying.

I for one, welcome the criticism that comes from informed users of the game. I think the only point I disagree with above is the "japanese bias" on car selection. I think PD does a great job with unique and never seen cars on US shores. Thats what first attracted me to the GT1 series. ****, I never heard of the "Skyline or Sylvia" before....

Unfortunately most of the big surprises in GT4 were known months before its release, now everyone is expecting something that's ultimately not there. I for one only get a chance to play GT randomly, with family and work remaining #1. The lack of online play or garage battles is meaningless to me, but I can see how some are bummed out.

As a North American consumer, I managed to stretch GT3 gameplay for 4 years. GT4's massive track and car list should carry me another 4 years until PD decides to revolutionize Sim Racing again.

Lets go Feb 23rd!

You do realize that it will never change right?

Besides there are about five or six totally different Skylines... They only bump up the number with variations. Once again, them removing one or even five of them doesn't = getting a totally different car... Say the GT500.

You know there is a good chance that PD doesn't even have the resources to look up all these cars right? Remember where PD HQ is. It isn't in Detroit that's for sure.

yup indeed

so anyway...
was the article talking about xlink or what? :P

OK...thanks guys. I'm not buying it now. I will just stick with Mario Cart. At least the AI is smart in that.

I did say this a while back, but nobody believed me. We are being used. We get promised new features. We thought we were going to get 2 player/LAN garage cars race, Emotion AI, online etc. IT'S WHAT WE ASKED FOR. DID WE GET IT? NO! We got B-Spec and Photo Mode. Proof that we don't count. BUT WE PAY THE MONEY FOR IT! Sorry but I'm not having that from KY/PD/SCEE anymore. It's happened over GT2 and GT3. If KY made GT4 for himself and not for us. LET HIM ******G PLAY IT! I'm not giving him my hard earned money, so then he can laugh at me and give me the same s**T again in GT5. :grumpy:

Some idiot on this thread was being sarcastic about Forza Motorsport. WELL GUESS WHAT? I DON'T LIKE BILL GATES AND MICROSOFT EITHER! But if it's between Forza Motorsport trying to give me what I want and doing their best at it, and GT4 giving me the finger. I'm gonna pick the game that at least tries to make me happy, as a customer. 👍

Someone on here said that GT4 is an encyclopedia of cars and it's amazing at that. Well call it GT4 encyclopedia then...

GOD! I see more and more in GT4 every day that just takes the p**s. I loved SEGA GT and it's great drag racing mode. I would have loved that ever since the first GT and people were asking for it since then. I can not get the Las Vegas Drag Strip to work in 2 player. UNBELIVABLE! Add that to the list of other stuff that missing or wrong in GT4 and I'm so happy my friend bought it and not me. Paul was telling me yesterday he bought the game on faith. Faith in the GT genius. We both lost that now.

I URGE ANYONE THAT WANTS TO BUY THE GAME TO READ THE REVIEWS CAREFULLY AND RENT IT FIRST. The more I play it the more I hate it. 👎

meister_dan
Please elaborate. Thanks in advance.
Weisst du IMMER noch nicht wie man 100% in GT2 kriegt? (laut Sig?) Man muss bei den Zufallsgenerierten Rennen auf jedem Schwierigkeitsgrad gewinnen.

Here's what I have for you Cobra. I don't care what anyone says. I'm friggin buying the game. GT has always been my favorite racing game. I tried TOCA....hated it. I play NFSU it's fun but no GT. While burnout 3 is an excellent arcade racer it is in no way realistic(other than the damage). I will never play Forza because like alot of gamers...I can't afford to own every game system. Enthusia sounds intriguing, but the jury is still out on it.

Sorry to tell you but a few people *****ing about things that they don't like about a game on a message board on the internet are not going to keep me from purchasing a game that I want.

Basically you could tell me that the game comes packaged with a fresh turd in the case and I would still buy it. I've been waiting almost 3 years for this game and no offense I don't need some anonymous Brit telling me it sucks and that I should save my money.

I am able to make my own mind up about it. If it sucks I will come back on this board and eat crow, but I doubt that will happen.

You are entitled to your opinion, but it did not sway me to your side at all.

Have a nice day.

Since when is that a FACT...because YOU think other racing games are more fun to play than GT3, it's a fact?

Ive played GT3 more than all my other games combined...

it's all personal preference....I'm wondering what other CONSOLE racing games you liked better?

I've heard people raving about TOCA II...So I rented it and won the first 5 races and quit....not for me...wasn't fun TO ME..

GT4 is in no way an rent it first game imo, if you don't know what to expect from it by now you haven't played any past GT's. My only criticism is that it doesn't really take the series foreward at all, it's GT3 with a few bells and whistles. But it's certainly not a bad game.

A bit better looking vehicles and a bit more aggressive AI. Still no damage models, still able to win by cheap-ass racing.(If you can call it racing when you do that)

deadmoney
I've played GT3 more than all my other games combined...

it's all personal preference....I'm wondering what other CONSOLE racing games you liked better?

I've played GT3 for almost 2 years, good game could have been better but still, I really enjoyed it. I understood that it could have been better since KY/PD were saying it was a game made quickly to release with the PS2. This was when the PS2 was released mind you. I expected to play at least 2 or 3 versions of GT (I'm not including the Concept and Prologue) by now. Instead I played one rushed game, GT3 and the next one, GT4, is being released nearly 4 years later. No matter I waited. I figured, give them the time and they'll deliver. 💡

I mean realistically GT4 should have at least the features of GT3 but more and maybe slightly better graphics and sound (to be honest GT3 were good enough for the PS2 hardware). But no. Instead I get a game that misses important features from GT3 (which made the game last so long), adds some useless features like B-Spec and Photo Mode, doesn't add anything the customers asked for (not that KY/PD bothered to ask), has more bugs, glitches and less polish than GT3 (if that was possible  ) , still s**t AI, and no damage of any sort (simulated like in GT2 or visual), not even the ******g 2 player drag strip we're been asking for since GT, oh and no Online, or racing kits for all road cars.

And yes Sega GT was fantastic and I played that for 2 years. Certain aspects were certainly better than GT3. In fact plenty of games have been better than GT series on certain aspects. Rallisport Challenge 2 has the most amazing physics and damage and lighting ever done in a videogame. But GT series although not as good offered so many cars and so many tracks and so many options it won overall. That will change this summer with 2 not 1 but 2 direct competitors to GT4. Open your mind. 👍

Since you hate GT4 so much is there any reason why your here, or are you like a mad anti-political preacher standing on the high street shouting about how corrupt the government is. I don't mind people, yourself included speaking their mind, and it's nice that you consider other racing games other than the GT series, but if someone else doesn't hate GT4 with the passion you hate it with, so be it. You have your opinion, I have mine and the other guy has his.
