Is that what you were insinuating?

No, I'm just saying the Patriots are a good team. I know there are teams that have achieved a lot more, but the Patriots have achieved a lot in a short amount of time.

JCE
This hapless Lions will go 6-2 then 2-6 to finish up @ 8-8 next year missing the playoffs...again.

Lion's fans and Red Sox fans have a lot in common: Next year is always "our year." Only difference is that the Red Sox have had two of "their years," and being a Red Sox fan myself, I should be content with that... But noooooo, the Lions get our hopes up and throw them away each year.

Which reminds me: Weren't the Lions the team that got the Giants back up on their winning feet?

Switching back I was graced with Tom Petty (who picks this entertainment?)

Whoa whoa...whats wrong with Tom Petty? He kicked ass. Especially after quite a few abysmal half time shows over the past few years, this was a breath of fresh air. And from one of my favorite bands.

As for the game...wow. Such a spectacular game. One of those games that will be remembered for a long time to come. That whole play where Eli escaped 3 defenders and Tyree caught the ball between his hand and his helmet...wow. Thats all I can say. Just glad to see the Pats didn't luck out of another one.

I don't care for Tom Petty and I thought the half time show was lackluster.

I watched the halftime show at 30x speed. Didn't really excite me. I still have a quarter and a bit left to watch. 2am on a work night really isn't do-able any more.

Yeah, the subliminal messages in that halftime show were crazy. It seems that every year, American sporting event productions become more and more ultra-nationalistic.

Why does everyone hate the patriots just because they had a perfect season?

Has nothing to do with the perfect season and everything to do with the players and their attitudes. Tom Brady has somewhat notorious dealings with women (and he's way over rated). Bellichik is just a jerk (winning or losing, the guy never handles it well). He snubs the other team after the game, he refuses to take the blame when things don't go his way etc. etc. And, of course, Randy Moss, who abandoned his team last year - basically refusing to play. Sabotage is probably the worst thing any team member can do to his team. Inexcusable.

I like Welker though. The guy's got moves.

I have one question: The SB was the second American Football game I have watched in my life (the NFL isn't very popular here in Europe). American Football is interesting, but I noticed many (unnecessary) breaks. Here in Germany the game was broadcasted completely without commercial breaks, comparable with Pay TV in the US. The presenter often said "well, the game could continue, but there is a commercial brake in the US right now". During sports like Boxing we have commercials too, but any break ends as soon as the sport continues. It's not like a boxer gets two minutes between two rounds because the commercial break is two minutes long. I didn't count the breaks, but I think 15 is a good number. Doesn't this annoy you? I really think such breaks destroy the game.

I feel that the breaks actually build the suspense. This is something that soccer fans are going to naturally take issue with since it's so different from the sport you're familiar with.

The constant breaks don't really bother me. Lets me take constant breaks, if you know what I mean! I usually watch games off the recorder anyway, so I wind through most of the TV timeouts.

What surprises me is that these super-athletes are so physically exhausted. I mean, they only play for about 15s out of every elapsed minute, then they sit panting on the sidelines. Gives you an idea of the physicality of the sport.

Chalk up another reason why I love being German. Having lived here most of my life I am used to the commercial interruptions for sports events. In some way it is a suspense builder, however in this case it is mearly for advertising and entertainment. The superbowl has turned as commercial as you can get. I'm surprised the field isn't litered with adverts.

Want less little Dutch girls panting after 15s of movement and less breaks? Watch hockey.

On TV: NFL > NHL
In person: NHL >>>>>>> NFL

Hockey in person is just ****ing brilliant like basketball.

I think people need to learn how to appreciate good ol' classic rock. 98% of this modern stuff sux. :)

.... What?

Diablo (On superbowl victories: The Giants have won 7. :p

--------------------------------------------------------------

I didn't mind the commercial breaks during the superbowl because the commercials are interesting as well. :D

Two Things:

  1. The Halftime Show was the worst I've ever seen. Tom Petty (Who I really like, by the way) sounded like he was going though the motions, and the band sounded like a Holiday Inn band. Thanks a lot Janet and JT! Since nipplegate, 3 out of the four halftime shows (Prince being the expection) royally sucked!
  2. During the coin toss, for the first time since XXXIX, they didn't announce the captains, and I think I can explain why. [Conspiracy Theory]Because Tom Brady, THE marquee player in XLII, wasn't a captain and they didn't want it to be immeality known.[/Conspiracy Theory] For me, it came two Super Bowls too late. remember, in Super Bowl XL, Jerome Bettis wasn't a captain in what turned out to be his FINAL GAME. talk about short changing someone.

Oh no you didn't just put that pussie sport next to hockey...

Your opinion. Basketball players have just as much skill as Hockey players, "Football" players, and Football (soccer) players. If I want to put Hockey players next to GOLERS I have the RIGHT as its my opinion. You need to step back a bit and mello out.

Big Balls and standing around vs a small dot and always moving fast

Yeah...

Dude, I see why you were banned previously. You're a troll half the time, and the other half, you make pointless posts.

Again, I tried to watch the superbowl, but I couldn't get into it. It's just so stop-start, it makes Cricket seem like a fast paced game. Though I can see why people like it, just the stop-starts of minutes which made me turn my head.

Good job to the Eagles dumbass that dropped the ball on the one yard line... turns out he did it in college too. Nice.

I guess it was a slow news day too... that's all they would talk about.

Man, the Seahawks are now down to the 7th receiver on the depth chart, they got so desperate they signed back Robinson. Man, not only at wide receiver, but it seems this year every position is getting injured, i mean, ever single receiver on our roster has gotten banged up, many for the season.

Wooooooooo! How 'bout those Dolphins! Patriots can lick my boots. We spanked 'em.

What a way to break a 21 game losing streak than to back hand the Patriot's head off.
