NFS Shift 2 - Things GT5 could/should implement.

I would like to see a look to apex option in GT5, I would set it at 10% so my head moves slightly to give a little more "feel" to the racing. I also like it when the blur comes into play during an accident, but again I would want it to be modest not over the top.

Actually that photo is taken front just in front of the wall and the game shot is taken mid corner, but looking further down the track you can see my point :)

Either way the track is wider in game than it is in real life, but only the die hard Bathurst fans will notice (it's my cross to bear). It's better than no Bathurst though 👍

With no real reference points or sizes to calibrate off of and who knows what kind of focal length differences I don't think one can really say...

I would think you would need to get into the game and then sandwich a few cars side by side to figure out how wide it was compared to real life....

I'm looking forward to doing exactly that 👍

Although I am fairly confident in my observation, I have spent a lot of time at Mount Panorama and it is much steeper and narrower than in any of the videos I have seen of Shift 2. But again, 99% of people probably won't even notice so it's not that big a deal.

But to give you an idea how steep and narrow the dipper really is, check this out :)

I was arguing the whole track widening thing over at Gaf but i just decided to give up and not go any further. whoever defends SU2 and almost every other console sim in the track widening issue needs to either check their eyesight or check their fanboy meter. The trend this days in console sim seems to be widening of tracks for more "FUN" gameplay, forza 3 being the first offender. We need to have a game that has a good balance between "FUN" and "Realism", but it seems to me like the two will never mix seeing as people who like fun find realism bland.

^ Haha yeah its funny because it doesn't matter what proof you give or how much experience you have because someone will always ask for more proof or argue that it's FOV or perspective or something like that.

I'm not trying to dismiss the game, just stating the obvious :)

Edit: And good point about the fun vs. realism thing. I find realism fun but some don't. As for the track model, Rfactor has the best I have seen so far

Now if they would just blur your view while changing bus routes or blur and shake your view while milking cows some would see this as real fun, and the best ever.

Yeah, and the screen cracks and gets splashed with black stuff when the cow kicks you in the face!

I'm looking forward to Farming Simulator 2 Unleashed already 👍

Shift 2's sounds may not be entirelly accurate but they are far closer to reality than most of GT5's.

If you watch Le Mans or F1 cars trackside it's one of the most awe-inspiring things you will ever experience and much of that is down to the sounds, when the cars backfire you can physically feel it in your chest.

If that's the standard, GT5 and S2U can't possibly meet it. Nor can any sim. The best the designers can do is replicate the look and sound of the TV broadcast of a race, and use physics and mapping sufficiently accurate to provide a very basic level of familiarization with a track or car.

I haven't played Shift 2 to get an opinion (as it's not out yet) but if it's anything like Shift 1 I don't want it anywhere near my GT5......or my PS3 for that matter. Just steal the customization from Forza and then GT5 is fine by me.

In terms of eye-candy, gt5 is at least 4 years behind, which shouldnt be that big if a surprise considering all the delays and poor progress since it was announced back in 2006. The only reason it is still successful is its physics engine. I haven't played any of the recent NFS games, but last I tried one, I did not like the overall arcady feel of the game. Dirt is a big contender, however. I am looking forward to Dirt3.

Are you high? Gran Turismo has the best graphics of any racing game ever, possibly even any game ever.

I agree that previous NFS games have all been arcady (including Shift 1), although if anything I would say the previous Dirt games have been even more arcade oriented. With Dirt 3, Codemasters are claiming that the new game will have amazingly realistic physics (as are EA with Shift 2) but the videos I have seen thus far suggest otherwise.

So I put Dirt 3 and Shift 2 in the basket. On paper, they sounds good, but I will wait to try them before I hand over any money

I'm one of the biggest GT5 supporters (some would say "fanboy") on here, and even I have to comment on this.

GT5 has the best car models of any game ever, when referring to premiums. The reflection modeling is also near perfect. The lighting model is also excellent, in the daytime, except for the (sometimes) dithered shadows. Most other aspects of the graphics (environments, weather affects, smoke effects dithering when touching cars, etc) are around par for its age. Some things are downright bad (most standard cars, crowds)...but that's a necessary tradeoff when some things (above mention graphics, physics) are done so, SO right.

^ Yeah fair point I guess if you look at the game as a whole. I should rephrase and say that GT5 achieves the highest standard in graphics but you're right, this standard is not consistent across the entire game.

While I love the attention to detail, I would rather they spread their efforts across the game as a whole. Intricate details are nice some of the time, but low quality textures and effects like standard cars and weather stick out like dogs b#lls

I have to agree that GT5s graphics are great in a racing game, specifically with the premium car models...but if you want the best graphics in a game so far, play Killzone 3. Most major gaming magazines and myself included regard the game as having the best graphical experience thus far on any game for the PS3 platform.

But yes, GT5s premium cars are certainly, and unequivocally, the best yet.

GT5 is great but it also has massive flaws so it's about time PD started learning as much from the competition as they have learnt from PD.

Listen to the sound in the Pagani replay video, do you think that sound is closer to reality?

Straight cut gears sound in a production car and a rubbish sound engine, is that what you call accurate?

Yes, the only problem with the sound in GT5 is the lack of samples. But it has one of the best sounds engines in a racing game.

Compare with this

The game comes out on march 29th, so they still have 18 days to work on it. GT5 had 5-6 yrs and that's the best they could do ? I pray that Shift 2 gets a higher score than GT5 (a 9.0+) and I hope that Forza gets a 10 and why ? I hope that those ratings will b**** slap Kaz and his crew, but I doubt it will, because they are stubborn. As for GT6, by the time it will be out, I probably won't play videogames that much (I'll be past my mid 30's with kids).

The thing I like the most about GT is that GT5 will still be online in 2-3 yrs compared to Shift 2, because Shift 3 will probably come out in 2013, thus killing the "community", like most online games when the next game in the series comes out.

They have still 18 days to work on it? Are you kidding me? Sounds like you know nothing about game development:lol:

Also, are you sure it looks narrow? :)

It looks about the same mate. Your view from inside a car will always make the road look different. Don't believe me, try walking outside and go stand in the middle of your street, then get in your car and sit in the middle of it. I can guarantee it will look different than when you are in the car.

or argue that it's FOV or perspective or something like that.
I'm sorry, but those are things that can't be simply ignored as they do make a difference.

Scaling will always be an issue with games. Even cars are sometimes not scaled correctly. Heck, 'over attention to car model detail' GT5 has many car scaling issues. It's just something that happens.

Anyways, and as I believe you or someone else said, I'd rather have a disproportionate Bathurst than no Bathurst.

Are you sure you're not high? GT looks horrible if actually taken a closer look at it. Yes the premium car look awesome....in the showroom. They do not look the same on the track. The tracks are actually bad looking, very bad if you really look at them. They are very flat and bland upon closer inspection. I've mentioned this before, but the environments seem to have a complete lack of normal mapping. Thus they appear to have zero depth and every surface looks flat or actually is flat, even ones that should not be.
Just look at this post and you'll see what I mean.

I'm all for good looking graphics, but GT5 as a whole does not look incredible. I would rather have middle of the road graphics throughout an entire game instead of.....GT5 style, some parts looking awesome while others look horrid.

like most online games when the next game in the series comes out.

The PC Battlefield 2 servers are far from dead; have you seen the amount of Counter-Strike servers still available? What you described is more of a console gaming issue. Because most console players have impulse issues and go run out and sell the old version for the new one.

Honsetly, I don't see GT5's community lasting that long. If GT6 takes anywhere near as long as GT5 did to come out, most people will have abandoned ship as other, "better in their eyes" racing games will have come out. The amount of people I personally know who bought GT5 and have already stopped playing it entirely is, well, staggering.

OMG! what was EA thinking!?

any player with half a brain can see that Forza 3 and GT5 have superior physics similar to real life than Shift 2, I mean, the guy was acceleration full throttle on the curves and never understeered!! :scared:
