Wow. I don't remember it sounding that bad.
+1Hmmm the first turn we see in the night race video looks weird... also I hate when it start loosing focus on the car interior, an ugly effect, because human eyes can focus things by their own, we simply don't need that. Let us decide what and WHEN look things around: lcd, speed, gears etc... a stupid idea imho.
+1
This is not as it is in real live.
Not to brag but to let you know that I have real live experience. I have driven a formula Renault and a Porsche 996 on the Zolder track and 14 days ago I drove around 240 km/h on the German highway and I never had any problems with reading my speedometer and tacho going at those speeds, not even when driving at the Zolder track. It's, like HKS racer said, you don't loose focus at those speeds. If this was the case than every F1 driver is in big trouble because they can't fiddle with the buttons on their steering wheel anymore. What exactly looks weird about it? Also, remember the game isn't finished yet as well, so you can't really draw conclusions until its released and you have it in your hands. And since I have never ran on a track at night other than shifter karts I have no idea if its realistic or not, but I'm hoping they do a good job on Shift 2 because there aren't many games at all that have done a good job on racing games so far.
Maybe so but it's not real. And shift 2 stands for giving players an authentic racing experience. And what's the use of having a cockpit cam if you can't read the cockpit? On a screen, if you don't blur the cockpit, and you have head/chassis movement simulated, leaving it unblurred draws your eye away from the track ahead of you and back towards the cockpit motion.
Quite right.*snip*..... advanced way. Just the cockpit blur isn't. But things outside of the car passing by? Definitely blured !
Out of interest...how many race drivers look at their speedo to see what speed they are doing? I cant see it being many tbh!
If you blur something ingame, blur the surroundings, not the dashboard. In real life, the dashboard moves at the same speed as you are (because you're sitting in the car) and thus your eyes can still focus on the dashboard.
I do. I don't want a speeding ticket (in real life, not on track ofcourse)Out of interest...how many race drivers look at their speedo to see what speed they are doing? I cant see it being many tbh!
Quote! Developers should stop adding weird features that doesn't reflect real life just because THEY think is cool or THEY think is immersive, many other users could hate that. At least on option to switch that crap on/off please.Quite right.
That's what I talking about. If you blur something ingame, blur the surroundings, not the dashboard. In real life, the dashboard moves at the same speed as you are (because you're sitting in the car) and thus your eyes can still focus on the dashboard. The surroundings like DonZonda said, can be blurred in real life. But you have to move really fast to have a very blurred surrounding. No blurred surroundings at 240km/h 14 days ago on the German highway though.
I think you are right, too much Hype in these days now is time to calm dawn a bit, it's always EA.. but let's hope the final release will be what we are waiting for.Hmm... I'm slowly changing my mind about this game with these videos... maybe EA are shooting themselves in the foot by releasing these but I'm not too impressed with what I see with the physics so far... I was extremely hyped about this but... now I think I might wait and see what people around here think when it's released and at best I will rent it first to see for myself...
We can talk about the driving aids till the cows come home, it just doesn't look that impressive so far in terms of driving realism and driving physics... in fact, these videos seemed really sloppy... it was cringe-worthy... I hope the game will feel/drive differently with the aids off but I seriously have my doubts and I have serious trust issues when it comes to EA...
It looks like another bait and switch to me, guys...

If innovation means crap/weird stuff they should stop "innovate" and keep trying to reflect realty, because they are claiming "this is REAL racing". I want to use helmet cam and everything I ask is an option to turn that blur off, because it's not real.I know what you're trying to say, but developers do those things because THEY think it will add something to THEIR game. THEY think it's innovative, different, fresh, etc. If you don't like the blur effect then don't use helmet cam. I didn't like the effect in the first game and only used the dashboard view when the vehicle was stationary.

SMS/EA wants to simulate how it feels when driving at very high speeds, well if they want to simulate real live, they should get rid of the loosing-focus-feature when looking at your dashboard at high speeds if they want to keep it authentic. If they meant it as a gameplay feature, by all means, it's a nice feature but not when it comes to reality.
100% correct!I believe the reasoning behind them doing that is to help simulate speed. If they had no blur then it just wouldn't seem like you were going very fast at all, but with motion blur it actually tricks your brain into thinking you are going at a fairly great speed. I just don't see any other way to simulate speed and make you feel like you are going fast without motion blur. I agree that you don't lose focus on you gauges, on my shifter kart we would hit 130 on some straights and right on my wheel is a digital screen with the track layout and my position on the track as well as engine temp, fuel/air mixture, and weight distribution for the chassis to help dial the chassis in (so you know if it is flexing properly, that's very important in shifter karts). The only thing that blurs when I raced was the track from about 20 feet out all the way up to where I am, at high speeds that is. But in a game they have to do something to help simulate a speed feel and the sort of tunnel vision/adrenalin vision, so I don't really have a problem with it.
Why didn't I think of that.Or you could use the actual dashboard view.![]()
Do you mean in shift 2 there will be two different interior views? One with helmet cam with blur on the dashobard and a normal interior view without helmet and blur? From what I remember in shift 1, normal interior view have that blur effect inside but there wasn't any helmet cam yet, so maybe 2 different dashboard view with different effects. Do you mean this?Or you could use the actual dashboard view.![]()
