Screenshots look incredible real and nice. No wait, nice is an understatment.
Let's hope that the rest (physics, sounds, gameplay etc...) is as good as they say it is.

Everytime I get excited about a game, it's a let down. I refuse to get excited about this game this time :sly:.

wow i made a thread that i wanted a look to apex option for gt5 request but it looks like shift 2 is getting it. Shift developers could be on the gtplanet forums. :lol:The game looks pretty fun and the sound is amazing. I think I'm sold.👍

CoolColJ
No pitstops, tyre wear and fuel usege, meh

Well everyone will drive llike qualifying, every lap....

I think there is a damage model but I know where your coming from.

Did you guys notice the suspension travel on the E30 in the pictures? How it lifts its front wheel? From the pictures, this looks more true to life (given the car and the insane power output) then what you get from GT5.

I like.

Plus: Twinturbo S85 into random BMW? Holy cow Batman, that's awesome! Combine that with the M1Procar and... Well, I like.

Can't wait for a Porsche preview. A 930 or 964 with the current 997 GT2(RS)'s engine and a nice aero package? Oh, the possibilities!

That's what I wanted to know. If you're correct ofcourse.
Dunno, we've got some contradictory opinions here, it seems.

Still bound by embargo today, but having played the game for 1,5 hours (of which an hour behind a GT pro wheel) a few days ago I can comment a bit on the new trailer posted above, it's pretty much like what I've seen on the console. It's probably still PC footage though, but imo the PS3 version looked really great.
Granted, the PC version looking better doesn't mean the PS3 version (or Xbox360 version, for that matter) will look like rubbish, so I'm good, I think.

But if it does look a lot like what we've seen in the screenshots... That's pretty darn good.
I'm expecting at least enough eye candy to make it easy to switch from GT5 to Shift 2.

Those videos and screenshots WILL be from a PC version. The PC version will look better, and if you were doing the advertising you'd naturally use the best looking platform you could. They'd be massive idiots to use a worse looking console version without a disclaimer at the bottom saying that it was from a PS3/360.

That said, several reviewers have mentioned that the PS3/360 versions look very good. I'm not expecting to be disappointed by the console versions.

graphics are good in both games, good enough anyway...but sound..oh sound in Shift2....eat dust GT5! Pls PD fix sound and we are all good again!

That's not going to happen to the same degree as in other games. I don't know why, and I can't think of a single logical reason why the audio shouldn't be up to par with other games out there....but such is the way of Gran Turismo.

At this point you either accept it, or keep hoping for the seemingly inevitable. There have been some comparatively major improvements in that department though...just listen to the 787B or LF-A. Both sound true to their real-life counterparts. So, there's progress at least.

They do get it right sometimes.

I do often find myself wishing that the start sequences in Shift were a bit longer though so I could sit revving my engine for a bit longer. Brrrum bruuummm!

Not sure how many people have their PC hooked up to the TV/hometheater set, but personally I'm getting the PS3 version just to have it on the big screen.

The dev version of shift2 I've played for about 90 minutes was already 2-3 weeks old but I was impressed by the graphics on the PS3. Lots of damage to the cars as well, bumpers and bonnets will come off and I even had a wheel come off at one point. The core physics are really improved a lot. The handling with a steering wheel is so much better and you can feel the weight of the cars. Each wheel is independently measured as you can see in that trailer posted earlier with the telemetry live on-screen. That's probably going to be really interesting for tuning-fans as that will be possible in Shift 2, not sure how detailed the tuning will be though.

But the most impressive I've found the night races. With the cockpit and helmet camera's you'll see the interior light up from the headlights of the cars behind you and it sure adds pressure. And when you're behind all you see is darkness with a few lighted spots and red rear lights of cars ahead. Racing on Mount Panorama (Bathurst) at night is quite scary. :nervous:

It's clear to me they've really stepped up on the realism and are heading more towards the simulation genre. I totally hated Shift 1 and stopped playing after the cars in career got too fast to control with the constant sliding but after playing Shift 2 for a while I'm really looking forward to it. Shameless plug incoming.. my preview is up, though it's all in Dutch. :sly:

Absolutely. There are a few gems that stand out in almost every GT title to date, but the rest that just flat out sound astronomically wrong are what stand out more. And that accounts for, I don't know, 78% (number off the top of my head) of the cars in the game. Makes you wonder how some can sound somewhat close or really close, and the rest aren't even in same ballpark or close to one for that matter.

GT5 may have some good engine sounds on some cars (of 1000...).
But, Shift and other sims have simply more sound. Driving is a lot richer, sound-wise. Windnoise, roadnoise, you can sense the speed when more little stones hit the underside, backfire, etc.

All you here in GT5 is the engine sound. That is lifeless...

I'm so seriously pumped for this game. I know the handling & bugs in Shift 1 ruined it in some peoples minds but even with all of the problems I was seriously addicted to that game big time. I loved the idea of perfecting each corner on the track and it was one game on the PS3 that I got a platinum in not because I was trying but because I was so enjoying what I was doing. Nothing felt forced, I NEVER felt like I was grinding just to get some progress. I played it over and over because I loved the sound, I loved what I was doing. The car upgrades were great! I loved the incremental upgrading of the exterior and interior.

I really do hope there are major improvements to the handling and while I'm a bit disappointed about the lack of pit stops, the tracks with the needless banners/fluff and the fuzzing of the cockpit at high speeds I'll be getting this game DAY ONE no doubt. Cannot WAIT!!!!!!!

(I'm actually a bit worried about this helmet cam though.. while it seems kinda cool I can't see it working too well for gameplay. I'm playing TDU2 right now and it has that head sway going into corners and it is SERIOUSLY disorienting to have the camera looking one way as the car is going another, it causes me to over-compensate my steering and usually fouls up my cornering. I hope there is a more normal interior camera to switch to... :nervous: )

Crap. Sorry about that.

Why is EA rehashing old news as new news on my FB page then? :grumpy:

Haha, it's fine. I essentially only take information from the NFS Shift 2 website and Speedhunters. Both the NFS & EA Facebook just seem to spam the same articles over and over again! :boggled:

I think the 'clean/dirty overtake' was one of the best things added to shift. Of course it didn't work well until playing the PC version with modded AI (Get Overhaul 2 with alt. AI). Trying to get the epic badge for Clean Overtake while not getting the Dirty Overtake badges really made me drive better around the AI, and going from that to Forza 3/GT5 where there's no downside to ramming the AI really made me miss it!
I hope they keep the clean overtake rewards in Shift 2, and make it part of Online too, then you can quickly see who the better drivers are...

Looks good. Although the steering still looks as loose as it did in the first one...almost like we're driving nothing but rally cars.

Here the Night Video for the Forum. This is what I call racing ! I give a %$%$ about ultra realistic physics. Because this looks so much more fun than GT5 if you aren't a physics junkie :D Listen to this sound amosphere , the speed , the expressions. Just wow to me.
