Why are all the youtube video clips private? Can't watch them.

Anyone else not being able to watch the gameplay videos? They appear to have been 'set to private'.

EDIT: Went on Twitter to find out.

"Need for Speed: Shift 2 videos have been put on hold everyone, I spoke with EA and they said to remove them until later in the month. Sorry!" Ve3tro

I found that a few pages back. :)

im just so glad the the shelby gt500 ford focus subaru sti honda nsx and other mustangs are in the game those are just my favorite cars I was disappointed especially that the Gt500 was not in GT5

Can this not turn into a lite version of the entire GT5 forum?

It won't. This whole track width condemnation was undeserved. I tried to prove it and explain why, others too and these aerial shots make things clear for everybody. It's a positive outcome since we're now sure S2U met our expectations in this area. Thesis, antithesis, synthesis, that's how fora've been working since Roman times.

Yes it will. And i am loving it, I got tired of defending GT5 when i realized it was not an issue with the game but an issue with the gamers. This time i will enjoy myself in this forum, and watch every comment, it's like a mexican soap opera, amazing ... ayayay!.

Actually, it's both. It's moreso a problem with the game though....because there really is no game. That's neither here nor there though.

Yep neither here or there. To me, GT5 is amazing. I had online races that were epic, which i always end up last. In any case, i have nothing against shift2 aside from shift1. So i hope they do better.

I'm just here to watch, like a time traveler: i cannot get involved, it might affect the time space continuum.

And you won't get any cookies. :P

What the hell am I talking about now?

Or, as it has turned into over on the GT5 forum, thesis, antithesis, flamewar!

O tempora, o mores..!

As it should be. All the explaining and photos in the world would have made little difference to GT5 fanboy. Just look at Amar. My mother lives in Lithgow, a short drive from Bathurst. I've been there so many times of lost count. But somehow, a poster from Croatia as a better idea of track dimensions than someone who actually driven on it?

Uh, seriously? I don't think it's terribly much wider either but there is no way I would post about it for sure or start kicking people in the teeth until I had the extracted 3d models to check against.

I just hope they include some V8 supercars maybe as DLC so we can make a proper comparison :)

I also think the Drag mode, which was mentioned in one of the interviews and the screenshot of the Dodge Viper Twin Turbos, will be left out of the retail game and put in DLC. It annoys me that stuff finished at release time is kept for DLC, unless they supply it for free with the first patch again...

One thing's for sure: Bathurst is the most talked about track!

It's a national heritage to most Australians and sorely under represented in video games. How it's portrayed is almost always bound to end up in heated discussion (although I'll remind everyone to remain civilized).

I have to admit, the video footage does seem make it look wider than the actual circuit (which I have had the pleasure of driving on numerous times) however I will reserve judgement till that actual game is released. I found the rfactor mod to be a fairly good representation on how narrow the track feels. You can still fit three or four cars next to each other at most portions of the track however you would rarely attempt to do so as it would be needlessly dangerous in most circumstances.

This old clip of a Lotus race back in 2005 that most of you have probably seen on the past would give you an indication that it is possible to have three or more cars side by side however it's a rare that you see racing like this. The V8's are considerably larger cars than the Lotus and would most likely have a higher center of gravity which would be less conducive to taking the outside line on most heavily cambered corners in Bathurst.

I'm going to pre-order and give this game a go. I honestly hope they do get Bathurst right and that it's simple a camera angle that is making it feel wider than normal.

^ I was hoping the same thing until I saw this video. Honestly the gameplay is laughable and sadly, it doesn't look as though they have recreated Mount Panorama very faithfully... The track is too wide and the elevation changes are way off. Rfactor still definitely has the best version I have seen in a racing game

why are there so many people in the room that are acting like female dogs nitpicking the crap out of the game wowthe track isnt wide here it isnt narrow here i dont think this game is suppose to be Gran Torrismo the real driving simulator this is shift to a good racing game that is suppose to be slightly sim based and fun wow crazy

You think right, Alot of people here think the game cannot be a good racing game due to the Shift track looks like it can fit an extra half a car on track compared to the real life track! Blasphemy!!

^^ Both of you need to go back to school and learn English! There is nothing wrong with people wanting realistic tracks, especially when the developers claim to be producing a realistic racing game.

Besides, Shift 2 is the only upcoming console game (as far as I'm aware) that includes Bathurst so of course we want it to be realistic! It's one of the best tracks in the world and has been neglected in the gaming world for years

I wouldn't care if there were even any real life tracks in the game to be honest, I just want a good racing experience, which no game has ever brought before.

By all means let's use the "an idiot drives it on youtube with all assists on" as our standard and let's see which driving games are left standing :)

I haven't played a game that has brought the feel of racing to me, so my opinion still stands?

Fair enough, I wasn't having a go, you're opinion came across quite bluntly that's all. I think F1 2010, GTR 2, Rfactor and iRacing all do a pretty good job in terms of racing but that's just my opinion.

Then of course there's Richard Burns Rally but I guess it's in a different category.

It's funny though because what I consider a "good racing game" is constantly changing as technology develops and my expectation become higher. What I considered realistic 5 years ago would probably look like Mario Kart today

The developers say that they want to set the bar for realistic racing and provide a true-to-life experience. I think people have a right to be a little concerned about track width. However on the same token, I think people should probably reserve judgment until they have played the game. It might well surprise us all. Here's to hoping.

^ That's what I was looking for, thanks. I wouldn't have an issue if they set out to build an arcade racer, but it's hardly unreasonably to expect a realistic game when the developer makes claims like that.

I won't lie, the preview videos are worrying, but I'll wait and see when it comes out

Have you guys read the previous pages? The track may look wider to some but it's actually not, as proven by a series of overhead views. It's all a matter of FOV. Bathurst is the right width, SMS did an excellent job. What worries me more is the track seems to be longer by a good 2½ inches... :dunce:

The problem comes from someone coming in here and basically slamming the game, because he says DEFINITIVELY that the tracks are too wide. Without a shred of proof other than his 'impression'. An impression he further bolsters by claiming that the track is only wide enough for two cars in certain places.

When shown DEFINITIVE proof that his 'impression' is totally false, you can get three or four comfortably in those narrow spots, apparently, HE is the one that feels 'insulted'...

Look, anyone here with a camera with a zoom lens can prove for themselves how much FOV and apparent track width varies DRAMATICALLY depending on focal length. Just take your camera out, and shoot a familiar curve on a street or road near you. Shoot through the windshield, and vary the focal length from ultra-wide angle to moderate zoom. That road is going to look COMPLETELY different as you adjust the zoom.

Shoot as a few cars go past. Shoot wide angle, shoot normal, shoot slight zoom... I guarantee that you will get a different impression of how many cars can fit on the road easily at different focal lengths.

OK, if you have GT5, change the zoom in cockpit view, and go zoom around a twisty track. I guarantee, if you are used to one zoom value, you will find yourself missing apexes, and judging curves poorly. And that basically shows that NOTHING has changed but the lens, and you have a totally different impression of the track.

But, if you have to manufacture disdain for a game you haven't even played yet by inventing impressions without a shred of empirical proof, you can't really complain when called out on it...

Trust me, I'm no Shift apologist. When I get it IN MY HANDS, I will give it as much scrutiny and criticism I have given GT5. But I didn't pre-criticize GT5. I waited until I had it. I can only suggest everyone does the same...

I don't mean to flog a dead horse, but the track is too wide and the elevation change is wrong. How do I know this? I've watched the Bathurst 1000 from start to finish every year for about the last 15 years, have been to the race several times and have spent a lot of time driving the circuit myself.

So call it camera view or whatever, but the track model is not accurate

The Bathurst track may be wide, it may be accurate...
I personally think, from the photos provided, that the track is accurate. Also judging from Spa, Laguna Seca, Road America and the various UK tracks I believe that SMS did a very good job with track modeling in Shift 1, so I trust them to model the new tracks accurately.

But anyway, this was a nice thread where people who were interested in Shift 2 could find news about it. Now it has devolved in a constant bickering about track width. I am no saying you are wrong but can we please move the track width discussion in a separate thread?

And also can we be please get a bit positive and wait until Shift 2 is released? The game is not even out yet and there are people who talk that the game is going to be arcade, the physics will be bad and the tracks are inaccurate. From all the videos posted I got the exact opposite impression (simulation, good physics, accurate or accurate enough tracks) but can we please wait for the game to be released?
