What the hell are they thinking! All X360 and PS3 games will run in 720p/1080i.

I dont think I'm going to buy this system, one thing I can tell is that its going to be less powerful than X360 and PS3... its like they dont even care anymore. :indiff:

I understand your concern, but I wouldn't be so quick to judge.

In the article, they make it sound like Revolution is not going to be compatible with High Def TV sets at all. Well, I have an Panasonic HD Widescreen. It's not 1080p or anything, but it will handle 1080i. Any HD sets will still play the Revolution games beautifully. I'd be more concerned with the power of the consoles than how many lines and how it will be displayed. My GameCube is progressive scan, and the games look great on my TV. To me, polygon count is even more important than the HD-quality picture. I think Game/Console is like CG picture. No matter how high quality the resolution is, it's that original CG that's most important.

"Nintendo's Revolution is being built with a variety of gamers' needs in mind, such as quick start-up time, high power, and ease of use for development and play. It's also compact and sleek, and has beautiful graphics in which to enjoy innovative games," Kaplan says. "Nintendo doesn't plan for the system to be HD compatible as with that comes a higher price for both the consumer and also the developer creating the game. Will it make the game better to play? With the technology being built into the Revolution, we believe the games will look brilliant and play brilliantly. This can all be done without HD."

While the lack of High Definition will hurt the sales for sure, I do like what this V.P. is saying. I'm still buying PS3, because Gran Turismo is a Sony game. If GT was on Nintendo, I wouldn't think twice about the Nintendo Revolution. If they can keep the price lower than X360 and PS3, like around $200(probably more like $250), they could do some damage. :)

Nintendo is setting itself up for failure again. Nintendo said the exact same thing about their proprietary discs, saying developers didn't need the space that DVD provided. This is why most games don't appear on GC now. Not only does the GC not have they capability of running the games, but the games simply just doesn't fit on the 1.5 GB disc.

Now developers can't port their games over to the Revolution. Why spend more money tweaking and redesigning a game to run on standard definition that was designed to run in high definition?

Look at this, a petition for high def support in the Revolution. This ain't no normal online petition no one cares about, this is being done by hardcore Nintendo fans with sample letters to be written directly to Nintendo...

Nintendo better watch out.

okay, now how many of you already have HD TV's? They are way to expensive to buy just to make games look prettier... There is more needed than graphics to sell a system. And that is where Nintendo has it down, they make some of the best games, way better than Sony and Microsoft's first party titles (IMO) There are too many cool things that have been said about the Revolution to let no hd ruin it.

The real question is how many people will have HDTVs in the next five years?

I've had my HDTV for at least two years. My biggest concern, or selling point with the Nintendo Revolution will be the games, not the HDTV(would be nice though). Especially the third-party published games.

P.S. I forgot to add, low price. This is because if I'm going to buy Revolution, it would be in addition to the PS3. :)

I just bought my HDTV this year. I look for games that support 16x9 and HD. It is a selling point. I think I'll have to pass on this "revolution."
Looks like its just getting worse.
And yes, I should be quick to judge.. the difference from 480i to 480p/720p/1080i/1080p is HUGE to me. I wouldnt have it any other way if I had a choice.
Playing a 4:3 game on a 16:9 set is AWFUL.

I don't know if you noticed, but Revolution isn't necessarily full-screen. The article makes it sound like it is, but take my GameCube for example. Most of my game for GC are progressive-scan, widescreen format and they do look awesome. I'm pretty sure Revolution will be widescreen, but probably not HD.

I also think that the Revoltion should provide high def support;

But I just wanted to comment your statement : the GC is more powerful than the PS2, so it could run the games easily...
But you are right, porting a game with 4 GB of data to a 1,5 GB disk is a huge problem...

The Gamecube is really capable of running the games. you have to remember the GC is more powerful than PS2. I could see GC running things like God Of War even better than PS2.
