No love for the Controller?

Right now the money I could use for a wheel is tied up in savings... for a FR-S. My DS3 will manage just fine till 6 comes out, or till I get the car.
 
DS3 too for me.
But For GT6 I will buy me some stuff (wheel and Wheel-stand) because I really think it makes a better experience.
I am good/smooth and fast with DS3 (last Tsukuba Time-Trial 300ish so...) but me want a wheel since GT3 :D
 
Nope, absolutely no love since I got a Wheel (8 years ago). But it's really great for navigating menus.


I think people often mistakenly assume they can pick up a wheel and be just as fast, when is more like starting all over again. So just like you had to learn to use the controller for racing, you'll have to learn to use the wheel as well.

Using a controller because you don't have a den, and think it's a heck of a lot better than taking up space with some elaborate set-up... sure is totally on topic.

DS3 turns the system on/off.
Haven't raced with it in years, and honestly would be terrible with it.
 
I'm using my controller. I have a Logitech momo wheel which I use on my pc for test drive unlimited 2, dirt 3 etc. But when I plugged it into my ps3 I couldn't get it set up properly. I sent four days surfing the net and looking for advice and settings and everything, but the most I got was the wheel working, accelerate on the right paddle and no brakes. Can't convince the wife to let me buy a new wheel, so back to my faithful controller it is!

That's funny, but it does make sense. How odd........
Leave it to the GT series to bust out something weird like that.
 
I had an Interact V3 wheel for GT1, 2 and 3 then it wore out after all the abuse I gave it. At the time I was travelling around a bit so forced myself to use the hand-controller with a PS-One so I could travel and still play GT and have never really gone back to a wheel. Now I use the DS3 with R2, L2 as the brake and accelerator with gear shift mapped to the square and circle buttons.

That configuration came about because I also have an XBOX360 and play Forza and NFS. The NFS series forced you to use the triggers for brake and accelerate and I just got used to doing things that way so I mapped my DS3 the same and now I have a similar driving technique for both platforms.
 
I love my DS3, it has certain little features that make it unique like the spring in the R2 button is a bit softer than normal due to extensive use :D if I ever use a different DS3 it takes time for me to get comfortable. :) I have a DFGT which makes me much smoother overall but I find it hard to correct any oversteer.

I drive with a DS3, I'd definitely want a steering wheel but I think it'd be bit of a waste of money to buy one now.
I'll just wait until GT6 is released and then buy a "new, updated and better" steering wheel... yes, I can wait.
 
All I can say is i'm looking forward to getting my driving force GT...

I've been DS3 since GT1, and haven't looked back. A wheel sounds fun, but the controller is home to me, and I'm not suffering because of it. Sure, I'm not in the top 1000 in the tt's, but would a wheel really put me there? For me, it is about having fun and controlling my environment.

I'd agree but I don't know. Myself and most sim racers consider sim racing to be more of a hobby if there's any such thing. It could be nonsense, but I feel like if you have a wheel, and play the best sims, and enter competitions, that it's more of a legit hobby than just playing regular games because of the realism.

Simulators teach you real skills that really do apply in the real world. They've definitely improved my driving and helped me learn how to drift in the real, especially GT5.

I don'tknow for sure, it could be no different, and I'm not saying it's any better but I do think sim racing does go just a little bit further as a hobby than simple video game playing and to me, using a controller in a video game takes it from being a simulation to just a video game, no matter if it's GT5, netkar, iracing, or any other sim. Not trying to put down people who use them but in reality, using a controller doesn't simulate anything except driving a real car with a controller, which obviously is impractical and unlikely to ever be a usefull skill. Of course, that's not the point for most people, most people do it for fun and I totally respect/understand that. If it weren't for my addiction to using wheels, and being spoiled by them, I may actually use controllers from time to time.

Maybe me and the other people that feel this way are elitist douchers to some, but I still feel like sim racing is a legit hobby, and playing games is a moderate hobby. I'm not really articulating what I'm trying to say properly though...
 
I used a controller for GT1,GT2,GT3,GT4 and part of GT5P, then I bought a DFGT.

I haven't looked back since. There is no way that I'll go back to a controller now.

Really, if you can afford a wheel you should get one. You will have to learn how to drive again but once you get used to it then you will find it's so much better.

Well dude you know you can play GT1 on ps3 right?

I started with GT3 so if I want to play GT1 I'd have to use a DS3, and I have been using it to play GT2. GT really has come a long way from those days

You should use the right analog for braking/throttle. It's far more precise, and it makes shifting easier (r1 / l1). Throttle control is key, you kind of need all the control you can get if you're going to turn all the aids off, and leaving them on puts you at a disadvantage. Most of the aids slow you down besides Skid recovery
 
DS3 because I can't afford a setup that will satisfy me with a wheel. If I get a wheel, I want a nice cockpit to go along with it, otherwise I dont really see the point. It's on my list tho.
 
Still stuck with the controller. My mom said she'll let me get a wheel if I do good in the first marking period. Hopefully the DFGT will be compatible with GT6
 
My friend has a setup with a real car seat (Toyota Celica), Driving Force GT steering wheel, pedals and shifter... I've tried it and the experience is a novelty but for some reason I just can't escape the fact that GT5 is a game and we are not driving real cars. And I could go buy a top-of-the-line steering wheel right now, for the novelty, but I don't want video games to consume any more of my life than they already do. I have been using the dualshock/DS2/DS3 since before dirt, it works great for me and I am very competitive with it.
 
DS3 for GT5. Went through two $60 xbox/ps2 combo wheels for GT4 and my other racing games, but I'm just too poor to afford a G27 or something like that lol :)
 
Like the vast majority of users I had a controller for GT1-4. Switched to the DFGT as GT5 was released and would never go back. The game is so much more fun to me when I'm using a steering wheel and pedals (yes I have a cockpit in my living room but it only takes seconds to move it in and out of my office as necessary), and massive surround sound as well. I have driven seasonals and a couple of TT's with a controller and I am still fairly quick with it, but it seems more like a "game" than a "driving simulator" when I do so. If it was just a "game" to me, I would have tired of it long ago.
 
I have a G27. Looking to get a seat around the holiday season. Hopefully I can find one for cheap.

I race in a couple of leagues here on GTP and my team mate is a DS3 user. He is usually putting out faster lap times than me. I still wouldnt go back though.

When I first started out I was faster with the DS3. Just took some getting used to before I started getting fast with a wheel.

I use DS3, although I do have DFGT. Thing is... I have no set-up for the DFGT, and I haven't used it in about a year so I'm pretty crap with using it... although I'm thinking of teaching myself to use it again with a coffee table as my set-up. :indiff:

Well, I use the desk my TV is setting on as a set-up for mine. Sure I get a headache if I play too long, since I'm only a couple feet from the TV, but the immersion is off the charts! :drool:

I use L1 and R1 for shifting but I just prefer R2 and L2 to using the right stick, I've had some good time trial results in the past using these buttons so I think these are the right ones for me.
