All hail the 'ring! I've been a fan of the track since I first played it in PGR2 ;)

Same here, that was the first time I laid eyes on the track and was blown away by the scale of it. GT4 pushed it even further. Nothing comes close to it.

I raced on it for the first time in GT5 yesterday. I was doing the AMG Driving School. I can't seem to get gold on it though!

Nice thread.

Love the 'Ring. Yes, PD did an amazing job with it. And good thing they did too.... since it's really what I do 90% of the time when I play the game: just a good car, the 'ring, and some friends for a virtual track day. To me, that's the best thing about the game (not sure if that's good or bad).

I think the 24hr configuration / time change / weather change track is the best track in racing game history. I think it's awesome when you're tailing a car at night and the spray makes you hesitant whether to make a move or not. Blasting out of the mountains to have a full sunrise greeting you is pretty spectacular. I wish they had fireworks like in the Toscana track and it's be brilliant.

After all this, other tracks feel incredibly dull and repetitive. Except of course the Sarthe.

This is one of the tracks that takes time and patience to learn. I'm pretty sure (IMHO) no one here could gold the Nurburgring on their first day of driving it.

But practice and one day you will get it :)

Yeah, this track is absolutely fantastic. A never-ending challenge and always a pleasure to ride on, whatever the car you pick :)

If the Nordschleife wasn't in GT5, not sure I'd buy the game. Word.

Sadly, PD choose the combined layout for both 4 & 24 hr endurances. I strongly dislike the Nürburgring GP part, it doesn't mix very well with the Nordschleife IMO.

My first 'virtual' time at the ring was in 1998 with Grand Prix legends. Virtually Terrifying. No kerbs then.

I wish they did the 1967 version (with the full pitlane and backstraight) as they did with the older versions of Fuji in Prologue.

i live 40 miles away from it, it´s in deed a very impressive if not the most impressive track in the world. far too dangerous to race formula one on these days though!
every weekend some self called racedrivers crash their cars there!

I get to go there almost every year in mid august, for the past 6 years, for a week of full thrilling trackday experience...with rented cars (lately) or my / my friend ones, being both a passenger and a driver inside the track.I have to get more than 1000km each direction trip, but I couldn't care less.

Had experienced the crazy fly in it under 8m10s (BTG time) WITH traffic as a passenger in a old M3 E36, or this year had the fun to drive the Swift Sport rentable on the spot and made a sub 9m35s time...also experienced it in the fog, or under heavy rain...in FR, FF, RR and 4WD cars...

Got almost one hundred laps as passenger and almost 30 as driver...and still can't have enough

Can you see I love it? :sly:

I feel so gutted... "powers that be" surely can't let the Ring go under.
Ring is a legend.

oh, and Hail the Queen! (Sabine)

Meh, the 'Ring has been in financial trouble more than once. It will eventually be sold to someone who's not dumb enough to build shopping malls around a race track.

Destroying the 'Ring would probably be more expensive than to keep it running anyways. Furthremore, the track itself is probably more popular than ever right now... Someone with half a brain and the funds to buy it could get filthy rich by marketing it correctly.

Maybe a lot of GTPlanet member could raise the funds to buy the 'Ring as mutual property?

BY FAR, my favourite track in the game, and BY FAR my favourite thing to do is to purchase new cars (bone stock) and test it on the RING. I see lots of complaints in these forums about the racing aspect and not being able to grind fast enough...blah blah blah, but strip everything off and just leave the the RING and the cars and i'll still be a happy man. I feel that PD has created the most accurate representation of the track anywhere, and I thank them for it. When I beat the GTR record on the ring, I actually played my replay side by side to the actual record on youtube, and it's incredible how accurately close it is to real life.

My Dad came to visit at the weekend. I showed him GT5 'cause we used to play GT4 in years past. He loved it - anyway I had to go prepare dinner...I left him driving his first GT5 lap of the Green Hell...I hadn't realised my 'Arcade' lap choice was still set to 7 laps!

Poor fella sat there and completed 7 hard laps with weather and time change in an unmodified Murcielago. He also didn't know how to switch between cockpit views - it was stuck on 'internal', full-on spray-tastic.

As I rejoined the room after cooking dinner I found him sat there glazed over staring at the replay. He was shattered!

Inexperienced GT-playing 70 year olds should never be left alone on the Nordschleife!

Oh yea, I would love to see a vintage version of the Nordschleife. Good call. 👍

I will say.... this track is the reason I want a (gasp) hacked save. I had a save that included each and every car in GT4 and i drove each and every one of those cars around the ring. took me years of spare time. but i did it.... all of em. What an accomplishment it felt like to finally work my way up to the FGT in GT4 and tackle the ring after having driven everything else. I did the same in Forza 3 which was made easy by the fact that all the cars are available in time trials from day 1.

For me personally i'd make a second PSN account so i could have my hacked save which lets me enjoy the ring in anything and everything and my REAL PSN where I would continue to strive toward 100% and enjoy online racing. this to me is fair. In forza a hacked save can't get online AFAIK. in GT this situation would make my ring experience complete. I love this track and I love driving ANYTHING on it.... yes.... even the kubelwagen.

This track alone does make my GT5 purchase entirely worth it.

Oh man, that will break a guy. Brutal. Just brutal. He is a better man for now, though.

That is awesome!! That's a great story!

I'm not sure why, but I think my favourite representation of the track is in Forza 1. Not a fanboy/anti-GT statement before anyone says anything, otherwise I'd probably be talking about Forza 3's version. I think it's because that's where I first experienced it, and somehow it feels a little scarier on that game, but I can't quite place my finger on why. PGR4's version was also nice but GT5's definitely beats that one.

I love the Nordchleife but that love turned into infatuation when I got to the Dream Car Championship 24hr variant of the course

(I've been playing the regular version of the course throughout GT mode up to that point)

.....anyways I'll love the 24hr variant even more when I reach level 40 if they implement a save game feature since I hate playing PS3 for too long of a period. Until then I might get an intercooler for my PS3
