Because for the real 24h race there are several layouts possible. Sometimes they don't even go until Dunlop-Schleife and take the DTM shortcut (like in the DTM event in GT5). Could be possible that leaving out the Mercedes arena had been done during the race that Kaz participated.
You sure about this? As far as I know, the 24h layout has been the same since the opening of the GP Track in '84, and the Müllenbach-Schleife has been used in the 24h race ever since. The reason why they don't use the Mercedes Arena (nicknamed "Haug Haken" (Haug Hook), named after Mercedes Motorsport Director Norbert Haug) is, that it just did not exist until 2002. Adding it to the 24h race would've changed the lap times quite a bit.
The short track without Müllenbach, but including the Haug Haken, is used in the endurance races of the VLN series.

There are some great sites out there with tons of infos on the Nordschleife, like Mike Frison's 20832.com and mikefrison.com, bridgetogantry.com and nordschleifologie.de. The latter is german only, but has all the history, infos about the Südschleife and a lot of great pictures from the past.

Just completed the 4hr enduro on it.......and LOVED it!!!!
Never get bored fanging around the hills at 300kph +

I ran Nordschleife with an M3 GTR at least once a day on my old PS2 before I bought PS3 and of course GT5. Best track and most of all, fun....

Did love it, now hate it after the last race in the Dream car championship. 35 points clear going into that race, sitting a comfortable 2nd half way round lap 2 when the AI start driving like hero's then playing dirty. Ended up 8th and coming second by 15 points. Good job my steering wheel was bolted down securely.

Some good pointers there, and I agree lap times would've been all over the shop with the inclusion of the 'Merc Ring'.

As an aside, will everyone here please remember to do their little bit to help raise the profile (even more) of the Nordschleife over the festive season?
2011 has to be the year in which the German Government announces that the racetrack of the Fatherland remains in situ and unharmed by commercialism and privatisation.

Happy Holidays to all

You're absolutely right! Show your support for the Ring by joining the Save the Ring group on facebook. The man behind this is aforementioned Mike Frison. He was (or is) also part of a private initiative, that tried to propose an alternative business model for the Ring to the government of Rheinland-Pfalz. Sadly, they failed, because no member of the government felt the need to show up at the presentation.

Nice:
Official Nürburgring facebook page: 12.310 likes
Save the Ring facebook page: over 20.000 likes, even though it's only been online for about a month or so :)

How can one individual just buys a public road?? The road itself should remain under ministry of traffic, ADAC, or some other public body in Germany. Whoever mantains many thousands of kilometers of autobahn, should be able to take care of the Ring.

There HAD to be corruption involved, i hope german legal system convicts these two douches, who blew the whole thing.

I'm trying to learn the ring,
And I'm using the schwarzwald B event to do it, and make credits at the same time.

Any suggestions for a good car for this?

I'm current using the Audi R8 5.2 but not that keen on it, would prefer RWD... and don't want to spend millions, also don't need to 'blast' the competition... just a car that wins, but let's me concentrate on learning the lines :)

Fantastic track. But as Ride posted, it is in serious trouble, financially. Even the German Govt. is having some trouble saving it.

Here's hoping 2011 does not begin with our only chance at driving this amazing circuit to remain in the game, and no longer in real life. :nervous:

I won't worry too much especially a track like the Nordschleife. Maybe in 20 to 30 years when cars finally becomes irrelevant :)

Although it wasn't financial, this year Spa-Francorchamps was under the threat of being closed down due to noise complaints from nearby residential areas. Fans of the track and motorsport rallied, petition signed and Spa lives on. The same will probably happen here. There's too much at stake- the races as well as the manufacturers who use this track for marketing as well as car development.

Im currently doing exactly the same, im on a BMW vibe at the moment. I highly recommend the M3 GTR, its not cheap but it incredible at the ring. The sound is epic. Its my favourite car so far... You can pick it up in the UCD.

Other cars i'd recommend:

- 135 1 series
- E46 M3
- Z4m
- Z3m

All of the above are at home on the ring, enough power to be fun but not silly. This allows you to really concentrate on learning the course.

M3, C63 AMG are nice for this event, have yet to buy an M5 and RS6 Avant (can't wait to drive those around the Ring) If you want a challenge, perhaps a '54 300SL might be fun.

Its a great place, I go there everytime I go to my dads.

Last time I met Walter Rohrl, got his autograph, met one of porsches lead engineers, got to sit in the 997.2 GT3 that did the official lap time on the Nordschleife and saw a massive crash and a helicopter land on the track.

Loved this track ever since "discovering" it in GTR on the PC. Those were user-created versions and a great intro to this track. However, GT5 takes it to a whole new level. Best cars I've found so far are the Nissan Silvia (RM) and the Calsonic GT-R, which is truly incredible! Best time so far is 6'22". Like others have said before I'd buy the game for this track alone. Everything else is just a bonus.

8'13 is the best I can get with the nissan gtr, need serious help with this circuit. Please? :D Any other track and i'm decent but here...oh my lord. So slow and bad...

I'm stationed near the Nurburgring. I'm just a short drive away. This past summer I took my MkIV GTI 337 there every other weekend. I'm nowhere near as quick in real life as I am in the game. I baby the hell out of my car. In the game, it's where I do all of my tuning. I even grind the Nordschleife in the Schwarzwald League.

Whoa! I didn't you know you had a 2.3 16v! Hey I'll add you right now. I still have one more summer left as well! We should def hit each other up and plan out Ring dates! I usually send out a mass invite on Facebook to try to get people to meet up at the Shoppette at 0900 on every other Saturday during the spring and summer.

lol i have an m5 and i run the arcade m3 stock only with sport tires and clutch and is blast.
best time with stock m5 7:44
best time with stock m3 7:58 a friend of mine did 7:36 with the stock car :nervous:
best time with stealth f1 mid 6
did i say i love this track after 100+ laps since gt5 i still find myself touching the grass sometimes .....

I don't like to heavily modify my cars. I make do with racing suspension, differential, and the basic bolt-ons, ie. ECU, intake, exhaust. I've run 6'53" fairly casually with my SRT-10 ACR and R8 5.2. I have a 915hp RS6 that has run 6'56". It still weighs 2025kg =P

This may sound dump, by use the AMG Special event to practice the 'Ring. Being able to do it in the SLS only sucks a bit, but deviding the 'Ring into bits to learn them one by one is probably your best bet...

Divide and conquer :D

Thankyou for your help, will probably do that to be honest.
