and still no sign of people saving in pit...? are we supposed to race 24 hours straight, pause it every now and then, take a break and hope the power will still be there when we return the next day..? doubt that was the intention, but what are we to think..? someone must have raced a 24-hours race by now and could provide us with some useful and highly anticipated info..? right...? right..? ;)

yes 👍

as far as i have interpreted discussion in this thread - it's been confirmed that you cannot save mid-race.

Driving aids in GT have always been about helping the amateur/casual gamer to control the car, the names and ideas taken from real cars but implemented in a way to make the game easier.

Add to that the car is probably running Arcade style super soft tyres for unrealistic levels of grip, Active stabilty management and tcs, its not being realistic at all.

The game is only a realistic interpretation of real world, when none of the above apply, all other times it is an arcade representation.

Great explanation of the unrealistic time 👍

That's ridiculous. There HAS to be a way to save mid-race by pitting or SOMETHING. If not, then that is one race that I will NOT be participating in (I'm not leaving my PS2 on for a week straight...)

I dont belive that they expect you to race 24 hours at once. There must be a way to save during the race. Either that or 24 hours is an exaduration and they arnt really that long

Having thought over the 'too fast'/ arcadish look of GT4, I think we will have too wait and see if the game is entirely this way; although this game looks very arcadish in this test it doesn't mean it can't be a good simulator as well, with for example different tyers perhaps. You'll have to agree that GT3 was arcadish too sometimes with supersofts etc. @ Amar: I hope you have not already played GT4 and tried different tyers before forming this opinion? Let me know if you have because I'm with you on the impossible factor. Though I still hope it will be a good simulator with a good verifying system of having realistic driving conditions for the real cracks, and I still believe it will be. Perhaps there will be a 'gentleman's agreement' of not using certain tyers, aids etc. GT3 had a similar sort of gentleman's agreement like drifting on sim tyers etc.
On one hand it will be a shame to see GT 'made all too easy', on the other hand by making it more easily accessible it will help the series 'grow'. The best of both worlds perhaps?
Just look at this guy Kaz, now he does look like a smart fellow, doesn't he? Talking about how he loves racing so much and wants to make it more 'wellspread'. I don't think he will forsake the people who loved the GTseries in the first place. It wouldn't be very wise of him. Dishonorable at the least. Seeing he's Japanese assures me even more.
Let's not give up our hopes just quite yet.

S16: gold in 5.46,5xx :)
yeeehaaaa!

i don´t care anymore if anybody says it´s unrealistic, it´s just a hell of lot of fun....
now back to shave off a few more secs.

cheers

amen to that!

once u play the game....all is forgiven. the last licence test with the Sauber on the 'ring is probably the best ever! the sense of speed and getting the sequence of corners right is so rewarding... and because u cannot touch the grass with all four wheels... u respect the track as if u were actually driving it in real life.... i guarantee... ur palms will sweat even before the halfway mark (where ever that is).

p.s. for people who have GT4... how long did it take for u to memorise the track? and.... do u think u could draw the track out on paper? over 170 corners? lol i can remember most corners leading up to the carousel...but i'm lost after that...

my current licence time is like 6:20:00.... long way to go to tame the 'ring.

I dont have GT4 yet, still waiting on my chip and Japan GT4 to come in. But I do have the Japan GT4 demo and it took me about 5-7 laps to memorize what was comming up next. Then maybe another 5 laps to start doing clean fast laps.

:) can't wait to get GT4 in and start playing it.

A good way to memorize the track while people don´t have GT4 as me is seeing many track day videos. I have many here, and, cause i had previous saw tons of videos of trackdays there, i know the whole track as well, all corners, racing line, etc. It´s an excelent way.

Even better if u get to download race videos of there, so u will see how is the exact racing line there, i mean, at the limit, and not "amateur" racing line as is what happens most of the times in track days videos. :D

5 days of GPL + 3 days of incar videos.

the videos helped more than GPL as there were NO landmarks at all in GPL that i could recognize w/ gt4 in the game.

damn i REALLY need to go buy a PS2 :scared:

speaking of landmarks.... u can see the castle atop the hill in the distance whilst speeding at 300km/h plus on the long straight just before the end of the lap. fantastic detail in GT4... plus all that writing on the road

Acutaly, I'm playing GT4 for two weeks now, as well as I did play off all the GT4 demos an so on.

Guess lots of people missunderstanded my point while being against the physics shown in that particular drive for S16. I find GT4 the most realistic GT game so far, with most sophisticated physics ever seen in console game, including F355 - which I do not find a better simulatior, but I find it more "realistic" simulator in overall feel.

With real tyres, and aids switched OFF, the Nurb ride with any true race car becomes ulatimate test for both driver skills and his mind. No doubt of that. I know Yamauchi is a smart guy, and I know this particular test had to be like this - as r_k_tek is saying: once you tend to drive it in way it is, it becomes ultimate fun - and it is still a pretty good test for the skills (I managed to pass over the "unrealistic" gap in my mind and drive that phuckn test for a time wanted), but I can't help myself in thinking that it could be all different.

Nevermind. GT4 is a great game, best so far. Noone will come even close to that what GT4 is delivering in one package, and I know it will become more and more fun with time to come. This test was just a way to show the other side of the GT4 coin. And it is nice to know that the other side of that coin is good as the first side - which is not often the case in real life.

This is true, and don't forget that a majority of PD's market is probably little kids or early teens who want a game that looks good and fun. If PD made GT4 too realistic, it'd be way too hard for the younger age groups to pick it up and play.

we've been over this topic numerous times, and evry time it's been agreed that if this title has a "simulator" tag on it, instead of a "game" tag on it, then it shouldn't sacrifice anything just to make it easier to pick up, that's why KY included B-Spec, and for those that find B-Spec boring there's Gran Turismo for Boys comming soon, so in a nutshell, even if you're an adult and you whine about the title being "too hard" you should look elsewhere, mainly you could always try burnout 3, NFSU, etc. or.. wait for Gran Turismo for Boys, even if you're an adult.

Yes, take a '60s British lightweight car down there with no aids and improved HP and you'll be in for a fun ride :D

Just a quick question for those who have ran the Nurburgring in GT4, how did you set your car up? Did you crank the downforce on, or did you put minimal downforce on?

damn, with no save feature for 24 hour races and the gt4 graphics pushed to the max, the poor old ps2 system gonna be worn out by the time we've finished. of course, there is b-spec mode...

You can expext from a company like Sony that the PS2 got an ease to handle that.
And everyone saying the PS2 is old = get an new slimline.
And BTW Sony has been involved at the devolping, do you thing they want 15 million broken PS2's with guarantee? i don't think so, that would be a real drama for an company, and the popularity will take an nose first dive.

So relax everyone

Since this is a 24 hours race, do the weather conditions actually change from day to night ... or are you just racing in a world of perpetual sunlight (which would suck)?
