OMG GT 5 Needs this feature! Adjustable Cockpit FOV!

Personally..I'd like to see an adjustable view incorporated, simply so I can see the side AND rear view mirrors...as it is now, that's not always an option depending on what car you drive.

Either you see the rear view mirror and the side mirror is cut off...or vice-versa.

The problem I see with trying to replicate what you really see is the your brain controls how much you "see" out of your whole field of view so a static view on a screen can't do that.

Example while driving my car imy vision encompasses both side mirrors, the rearview, some of the roof and most of the wheel and my knees.

But when I drive I only "see" the dash and the road. I have to shift my view even to see the guages.

So trying to get a perfect view in game isn't going to be possible because of the dynamic nature of your vision.

If its far enough back to see it all it will look small and way back and if it shows what you normally "see" it will look like a granny view.

Holy crap, I agree with Deve! :boggled:

That's why I hope the cockpit view with head-tracking offers something like the granny view by default, and then just tracks my head to check gauges and mirrors, look around, etc.

 I did too, but I had to make sure my dinner settled before I admitted it (it was pretty good and I didnt want to lose it)

Mark today, Pigs flew and Hell froze!

Clearly you guys missunderstood my post as is evidenced by the fact that not only did 2 of us agree on something, all 3 of us agreed on the same thing? I think we just entered the twighlight zone!

 GTPlanet makes miracles happen! I bet the cure for AIDS is floating around this forum somewhere.

Nah, I agree with SimRaceDriver. It sure comes in handy with PC sims, and even Prologue has that kind of feel and power. Why not an adjustable view? You'll never have to fuss with it if you don't want to. Choice is nice.

As far as I know, the Eye/headtracking system with PSEye works on all axis. The only choice you really have to make is to move you seating forward or backward in order to replicate FM3's changeable FOV. And the adjustment is almost infinite (within the perimeter) as oppose to just the specific angle(s). All GT5 need to have to accomodate those without PSEye (or those who prefer to not have headtracking) is a simple toggle button for forward and backward movement which I personally would rather prefer than a few set angles.

I dont believe I have seen anyone make mention of the fact that you cant see your bonnet in the cockpit view. For me this is a problem as I feel it detracts from the realism considerably, seems like a rather disapointing and bizaar omission, I hope this is fixed for GT5.

Im sure someone who knows the fact of the matter will correct me if im wrong, but I think something fishy is going on. I get the feeling that the cockpit is a new and seperate model and not a camera fixed inside the car model as it should be, otherwise this problem would be impossible. Go ahead and sit in your car you can see the bonnet obvioulsy - so I think (wishful thinking maybe) the whole approach has to be overhauled.

To add to the POV discussion, seems different people have a different opinion on what FOV actually means. I think the FOV is fine, but I think you should be able to adjust the camera front, back, and side to side (to a small extent) inside the cockpit.

I'm fine with the view we have, but an adjustable view can only rpovide benefit. They have already modelled the entire cockpits, so there is no drawback to an adjustable view because everything is there.

But having said that, maybe they were already intending to put it in the game?

I would love to have a feature like this, the main problem I have with using the inertia view on gt5p is that it dosnt match the driving position I would use in a real car (and hence just feels rather odd)

Liking the no wheel option as well!

All depends on how tall you are and how high the seat is set in the car. Most sports cars put the seats as low as possible to lower the center of gravity as much as possible.

Also i don't think anyone else has mentioned this yet, but the latest GT5 footage from sema shows a new in-car view that shows maybe half of the dash and you cannot see the steering wheel or the dials or anything else.

It's not really Adjustable cockpit FOV, it's just Manipulating the Degree for Tripple screens....
And i tried it, And it's ridiculous... anything after 67% Warped the track and made it feel an old PC simulator, And it shows the Game was not made to go that far back, But i bit the bullet and left it at 67%. In all honesty GT5p Has the best balance of FOV that i have ever seen in any racing game. Though the Seat Adjuster in Test drive unlimited was a wonderful idea.

Just my 2 cents.

I went with 80%, and nothing is warped, and it brings both mirrors in as well.

Liekwise, I don't have any problems with the incar view in Forza 3 at the settings I have, it's ither 75 or 80 I've got it on.
GT5:P's is spot on for me as it is, but simply allowing users to adjust the seat position slightly should be an option.

I don't see this as a problem, and in some cars you can see the bonnet. Not all of it, but you can see it. And no, when I sit in my car I can't see the bonnet at all. I guess how much of the bonnet you can see depends on where you sit and how tall you are. The camera position in the game is with the chair back in a racing position and I guess it's roughly positioned at an average height. If you're taller or shorter than that then your view will change accordingly, as it would if you sat closer or further from the dash. But the bonnets are clearly visible in some cars in GT5:P, they are definitely modelled. That said, I don't think the full exterior of the car is on the maximum grapihcal setting while you are driving in car. Just as when you are out of the car the intior switches to a lower detail model, but that's not wrong, or a problem, that's normal and that allow you to optomise the graphics better. The render high levels of detail on objects that you can't see is pointless and an unneccesary strain on the GPU. It's all one model, but your view dictates the levels of detail being used.

I took the liberty of taking a photo at my eye level in my car, a Mitsibishi Magna, which is a medium sized sedan.

The photo was taken with the seat a comfortable arms length from the steering wheel and reclined in a comfortable position. My height it 5'7.

No its hard to see in the photo due to the light and the colour of the car, but infact the bonnet is clearly visible. It does not take much to see a great deal more of the bonnet with a bit of leaning forward which is natural when driving and taking corners, and ofcourse someone just an inch or 2 taller would see alot more.

If they dont want to reveal too much of it for whatever reason atleast make the cockpit view somehow dynamic instead of having your boy totally pinned to the seat, this would vastly improve the realism in my view aswell.

Point taken re racing position and lower centre of gravity, however most cars in GT5P are street cars.

They could simply let you input your height and the overall caracteristics of your body, like leg-torso proportion. Maybe we will have the customizable face of the driver and this could another customizable item. I recently graduated in Computer Science and I don't think that this would be painful to implement. Since they should give the height and body parameters, and the camera which represents the head of the driver could be moved according to the car seat height, and physical caracteristics of the driver.
So you would have a near to reality feel of the car, given that the older sport cars didn't have seat distance adjustments, and would be amazing to drive and 300SL with the almost on ground feel that the car particulary have (Unfortunately, I've never drove a 300SL, I'm based on several analysis of the car, made by magazines and sites...)

GT5 will be amazing, but what can I expect for GT6? Simply perfection, man, I will never, never stop playing GT, i'm seeing GT10 in 2028, with 10000 cars and 200 tracks around the world...... and the 24h nurburgring race, with the real 220 cars on the track at the same time........

For me the cockpit view seems fine but lack of 1:1 steering animation breaks the feeling that you are driving a real car. This seems very absurd to me that so few games do this right. I mean we have very complex reload animations etc. in other games but driving game developers do not manage turn a freaking wheel right.

I agree but the problem is that it's apparently not as easy as it may look. There's a video before the release of prologue where you can clearly see that they tried to do it right, but failed greatly and thus it was dropped and prologue was released with the limited 90º animation.

Since they did try, I believe GT5 will have the real thing.

Problem with that video was likely that animation was used with regular controller. I want 1:1 animation option for wheel controllers.

I agree with that, however, me, being a controller user, I also want the full animation of the wheel, not what we have in GT5P. The reason being, is that it would simply would make the game seem more realistic for more people and not only wheel users :)

i like the cockpit view as it is in GT5. That said, I rarely use it :)

The cockpit cam we get is good. The wider the FOV, the more distorted the view is. The content at the edges of the screen rush past because you are warping your vision. If the FOV is at 50-60, I think that's about right for the human eye..

Agreed, even the title is breaking the AUP.

I'd say that it's not that simple in GT5 to just add FOV adjust , they have 1080p@60FPS to maintain. Bet they have carefully selected the best place for optimum view and play quality.

The only car where I was unhappy with the FOV was the Citroën GT. Maybe I'm weird but I couldn't see anything.
