OMG GT 5 Needs this feature! Adjustable Cockpit FOV!

Ok, but why? There is no advantage to any view.

An example of how I have wanted a locked view (like they do on PC). My team of racers like to have IROC races, and give everyone a single car that is the same, with all the same options, but everyone is allowed to tune the car only (as well has have their own livery). We like to make the entire field all use the same view, all use a racing wheel, all using the same car...locking in those items, and just have the different cars tuned to your preference. The entire race then comes down to driver, tuning and pit skills.

It's another race option that would be nice to have. Again, totally optional. You wouldn't have to race in rooms that have it nor would you have to require you friends to use it. It would be good for a lobby option.

Is the adjustable cockpit cam confirmed for Forza 3?

Yes. It was there in FM2 as well (it adjusted the view in views other than cockpit because cockpit didn't exist). It's used to assist with different monitor setups (4:3, 16:9). It's a feature that is not widely known or discussed, but it's nice to see it there, that is for sure.

I like the option to lock views to cockpit only too. It just makes sense. Force everyone to have the same limitations and deal with the same problems. Should be an interesting experience. Not to enter the merit of realism.

Ok, last time I will say this: There is no advantage, or disadvantage, to any of the views (especially between cockpit and bumper views.)

So, view has no bearing on driver, tuning, and pit skills. I just want to know the point of locking a view in.

Like I already said, also, I would happily oblige to any set view to be in a room of quality racers (mainly because there is no difference anyways!)

For the record, I never said it was a good, or bad option.
Just like rewind, I DONT care if its there, it will not affect me in any way, see first sentence of this post for clarification.

So to get somewhat back on-topic…

If we're going to lock people to Cockpit Cam, are we also going to lock their FOV? Also, if I'm gonna be locked to Cockpit Cam, can I have a realistic FOV where half of my vision isn't obscured by the dashboard? Something like Bumper Cam would be nice. That's most similar to what I normally see in my car. :D

I like the cockpit in GT5P but a feature i would like to see added is the option to cut-out the steeringwheel and hands altogether. This may sound like blasphemy to PD but its a feature i really like in GTR EVO.

So you can set the same laptimes in cockpit view, bumper cam, or chase view?
I sure can't.

Every view has it advantages and disadvantages. You can look around you in chase view. You can see more of the road in bumper view. You have a more natural feeling in cockpit view.

And I too would like to see an option to adjust the FOV.
And those who don't: why? It's not like it'll change anything for you if you don't use it.

Has anyone actually said that? The only time I saw that viewpoint brought up was by the Forza fans whining people were knocking it simply because it's in Forza, but AFAICT, no one is actually doing that. The most "negative" responses I've seen are along the lines of, "meh The default view in GT already looks good to me, so I don't really need this."

As has been said before, I think the GT5 cockpit is set too far back. Not only is this unrealistic, as you can't see the roof lining when driving a real car, but it makes driving it too difficult. FM3 has it spot on IMO.

In this image, I've outlined FM3's visible area (edit: i.e. the windscreen view) on to GT5p. GT5p's is about 60% of Forza's.

You might want to get your peripheral vision checked!

You think it is realistic to not see the middle of the steering wheel while driving? Or see the side view mirrors while driving?

I don't think your box is accurate, because it cuts off the gauges and the side of the side-view mirror.

GT5p's is about 60% of Forza's.
What does that mean? What is 60% of what, exactly?

You can't see the side mirror when driving. You have to turn your head to look at it.

Edit: and with GT5 supposidly having headtracking, is see even less need to fit so much in to view in the cockpit.

I just moved the windscreen of FM3 over to GT5p to show how much less you can see out of it on GT5p. The windscreen only shows about 60% of what FM3 shows.

Are you telling me that if you sat in a car, looked straight ahead at the road, and someone standing near the driver's-side rear wheel held a certain number of fingers up (for example), you're telling me you could say (while still looking straight ahead at the road) that you could say how many fingers?

I didn't think so.

I'm not denying you can't 'see' the mirror in your peripheral view. The fact is, you can see you own knees, and the passenger side mirror too, but when driving, your main focus of vision removes these from your sight.

The fact of the matter is, people (including myself) agree that the GT5p cockpit view is set too far back. You must learn to respect that.

Well, ignoring the fact that your box isn't right… I think what you mean is Forza only shows 60% of what GT shows, seeing as how GT shows more, not less.

Lol, how confused can one person get?

You know, if they just put adjustable FOV in there wouldn't be an argument over what game has a better view.(also, I think both have bad default cockpit views for me).

 What a classic back stroke, better than Michael Phelps.

I just realized the Forza shot is right... for a horse with blinders on!
You cant even see the Rear view mirror, and therefore Forza sucks.

Well, you tell me. How confused can you get?

Do you really not see the FOV is smaller in Forza? For example, you can fully see the side-view mirror in GT, but not in Forza. You see more of the steering wheel in GT. Do you not understand that's more, not less?

I'm confused by your apparent inability to tell more from less, but I'm not confused about which view is showing more.

Sorry, but the view is not unrealistic

You see the roof in the R8 because thats the nature of the car. Even the Forza 3 R8 view resembles the visibility of the GT5 view, outside of the hunched over granny view

Some cars in GT5P you dont see the roof at all

The ISF for example

I just meant that when you sit in the car you can see both left and right mirrors, your knees etc etc. This is peripheral. However, once focused on the road, this peripheral view disappears. My point is that GT5p focuses too much on this peripheral view that it detracts from the focus on the road.

Actually, although I think the guy's camera has cut off some of the screen, to me that is a much better view than with the R8 screen shot - and much closer to Forza's cockpit view. Just enough of the steering wheel and mirrors in view and much more focused on the road.

It cut off the screen horizontally, not vertically. Also, I've driven the IS-F in GT5P and you dont see the roof. One of many cars in GT5P where you see very little or none of the roof at all.

I've driven my fair share of cars, and not all of them offer a granny like view of the road.

Inside a '93 Dodge Stealth I have trouble seeing much of anything. Inisde a '97 Ford Mustang the rear view mirror creates a huge blind spot out your front window. But in the '91 Civic I can see everything it feels like your driving on the road.

Varying levels of visibility is realistic, not unrealistic.

Not every car makes you feel like your nose is smashed up against the windshield.

Fair enough to this part of the discussion.

Let's hope GT5 has an adjustable pov to satisfy us all.

In real life cockpit, you can only sit in one position, a race car position, lower the better, as well enough to have firm grip on steering wheel.. No Granny seats..

Needs it? No, I don't think so. The only reason people like the feature in Forza 3 is because they can change the terrible default angle to something more like GT5...

Options are always nice though. I'd rather have options be present that I'd never ever change than have an option be absent that I wish was present.

I'm not sure why I'd give a rip what race car drivers or cockpits do. I like to sit fairly forward and upright myself.

it's not like a whole lot of gt's cars come with racing seats anyway. The way I see it, distance and height adjustments would be perfectly realistic, and if PD decided to bother to include those, they might as well throw in side to side movement too.

I don't think GT5 needs the adjustable FOV but Forza certainly does, does anyone know what values to adjust the multi screen option in Forza to get about the same view as in GT5P?

The video demo I saw put it at 90 but that way too far back.

I think they were saying 62 degrees was the sweet spot and pretty similar to GT5P cockpit view.

Just because there is no advantage to you (or disadvantage), doesn't mean it isn't to others. My self an many others have different lap times in different views. It would be nice to have it as an option.
