@feverpitch82 - I'd like to further emphasize on the point that everyone wishes to stress out on you. Just because you have the racing line doesn't mean you can deprive your opponents of any room to maneuver. In fact, one of the things you must/should/have to do in a neck-and-neck race is to forget about the regular racing line and do your best to improvise so that you can defend/attack without any incidents occurring and keeping the race clean.

EDIT: What you SHOULD have done is punch the gas some time AFTER exiting the corner, not while exiting the corner, so that your car won't fishtail, in turn would not have hit the car beside you, in turn not knocking him off track, in turn avoiding unnecessary trouble. Bottom line, it's racing etiquette.

This is a video I found with good tips on how to overtake.
I believe this will shed some light on some issues here.
It is an iRacing video, but it also applies to GT5.

Cheers

I've done it in real life plenty of times.

He had no chance of passing, zero, but he kept his foot in and the back of my car knocked into his nose. You are all attacking me but im sticking with my guns, I had the corner, he was too ambitious, didnt have the speed to pass, he just left his nose in and got bumped. He should of lifted out of it.

To sort this out you have to separate the issues of which there are two.

1. Did the passing car have the right to be outside the OP to begin with. The GTP OLR will say that short of a major error on the part of the OP warranting a pass attempt by the following car, the following car should not impede the OP in taking the racing line of his choice. That is not subject to debate, the OP was in the "right" to take the racing line of his choice and the following car should not have been attempting a pass mid-corner unless the OP made a major error.

2. Was the OP justified in nudging the following driver off the track? No, absolutely not, even though he had the right to the racing line throughout the corner from what I can tell.

Seems contradictory because the OP had the right to the racing line of his choice but yet can't nudge someone off who breaks the rules. In an organized league, one would be expected to give room in spite of the pass not complying with the GTP OLR and then file a protest against the following driver for an illegal pass. In any league run strictly according to the rules, the pass would be nullified as not legal and the driver sanctioned in some way for making an illegal pass. If the OP also nudged him off instead of giving him room, he'd also might be sanctioned but could also rightly claim that because he had the right to the driving line of his choice he was focused on making a good exit from the corner and didn't see the car beside him because he wasn't supposed to be there to begin with, and he'd probably be in the clear.

But he was there if you bumped him. You need to respect that. Many passes require multiple turns to complete. Although he wasn't going to complete the pass at that turn. He very well could have been setting up his passing attempt for the next turn.

The second post had it right.

2 into 1 doesnt work, he wasnt gonna pass, I didnt alter my line to take him out, I took my line which I was entitled to because it was only his nose level with the back of my car and he refused to lift out. I knew he was going for the outside but I wasnt 100% sure where he was until the back of my car made contact.

Ok look at 5:11 on this video, its a still. Imagine im the blue car. Now we are both on the power and im naturally going to drift out to the outside of the track as im exiting the turn, yet he just keeps his foot in even though hes not going faster than me. The best he could do was stay level with the back of my car, which resulted in him going onto the grass and crashing! Then calling me every name under the sun.

*** I hadnt looked before 5:11 I was leading the race not trying to overtake him *** but 5:11 was the position we ended up in on this particular corner where the accident occured.

Umm, no you should have limited throttling to leave the corner in the centre of the track so if the other car held pace he would have had room. If he then starts falling back you still have time to swing out wide. You wouldn't have even lost 2 tenths by just holding back on the throttle.

The car doesn't 'Naturally drift out', it's only drifting out because you are on the throttle or have taken a bad line into the corner!

yes I was on the throttle exiting the corner. He wasnt going faster than me, he just threw it up the outside and got his nose level with the back of my car ( not that I even realised until I hit him ). It wasnt exactly like the still but similar.

What corner was it exactly?

Chances are, as said before, having the outside line may have given him a better run, therefore more speed.

It was Nurburgring ( which I have several lap records on ), it was the 24 hour layout and warsteiner kurve was where I hit him.

Triple monitor setup could be your answer for all your future racing. Guesstimating is then virtually out of the equation, and generally you'll be able to get through the first lap cleaner almost always. Just a suggestion.

I think everyone else has clearly explained that you need learn how to safely adjust your line when someone is coming up beside you... not saying you were the bad guy in this ONE incident, wheel to wheel racing is tricky and of course even the worlds top drivers have incidents all the time.

You just said it all right there! "I hit him." You are clearly in the wrong and should have stayed inside if that is the line you chose going into the corner. That is just how it goes mate, sorry but from everthing you have said you were in the wrong!👎

sorry you are wrong. ha ha.

if you take a corner with perfect entry speed, you are gonna come out the other side on the far edge of the track. Momentum will carry you there. and as he didnt even have half a car length level with me, I dont need to adjust anything. He needed to lift out because the only thing that was gonna happen to him was he was gonna crash ( which he did ). Why should I lift to save him from his own mistake?

its his job to lift because he wasnt going fast enough to make the move stick.

Only if you floor it out as if the other car isn't there!

Listen to us please!!!

It's also your job to make sure you are clear of any other competitors, and if you aren't, you adjust your line so you don't hit anyone off course.

You are not going to see it any way but your own and that is ok, but if I ever see you in a room I will either kick you or leave because you will not own your mistakes and there is no room on the track for my car and your arrogance. I will bet that this is not your first time that you ran soneone off the road and with your attitude I am sure it wont be the last!:ouch:

His psn id is "mistacaines".

Runs with racing soft tires. "And for people who say its unrealistic, yes it is - because its a game. "....that says a lot about his racecraft.

So if you are only 50/50 you are totally clear ( by a nose ), do you pull over and let the guy through?

If it was real life the guy would of lifted out simple as that.

When trying to pass playing GT5 online,I feel that it's my responsibility to pass without disrupting the lead cars speed or line. I don't think the lead car should give up a position because I can stick my nose in and pressure him to lift and give. Dive bombing inside or outside is dirty. With slipstreaming you can easily keep up with the lead car if you are truly faster. Stick your nose where you shouldn't,and it might get cut off.

In real life you can't take that corner full or almost full throttle since there's nothing closer to RS tires, therefore you would have to slow down to take the inside line (not the fastest racing line, as you stated) and the guy that took the outside will leave it with a higher speed and better traction.

Which means you would have crashed him intentionally on the next turn.

my PSN is feverpitch82 and I use all tyres. That particular lap was meant to be as fast as possible thats why I used RS.

You have repeatedly posted "mistacaines" is your id, but everyone will remember to avoid both users anyway.

You should have lifted so that you did not hit him, you did not therefor your mistake!

EDIT: Just because one person agrees with you does not mean that they are the only one that "knows what they are talking about." There seems to be only one person so far that sees it 'youe way" and you didn't ask them "were you there, did you see it, then shut up" so you just came on here to moan about being wronged and not listen to informed responses. You are a very closed minded person and therefor I assume also a dirty driver, end of story!

Having been in the" Im inside, your outside to my right" situation i just tuck in and control car from any outside movements as not to disrupt other driver, going as far as giving him the clean pass so we can both finish. If my cars good, Ill pass him again.

Now ramming someone into a wall, while they're slowing for a turn you yourself slowed down for ten laps earlier, apologise for wrecking that driver but continue on without relinquishing position he was robbed of is a reason to complain.

The "your in my way cause I'm slower than you" racers don't like this.
