So I recently upgraded my PC (about a month ago) because I just knew I wouldn't be able to use my Fanatec wheel on the PS4...and things look to be headed in that direction.

Here's my system thus far:

Intel Core i7-4790 Processor

Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO Processor Heatsink

Gigabyte GA-H97 Gaming 3 Motherboard

Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 RAM

My budget is around $500 and I'd prefer not to get the triple fan, long video cards as I'd like to upgrade to a smaller case this holiday season.

Here's the one I'm looking at right now:

MSI Gaming N780 GeForce GTX 780 3GB 384-Bit GDDR5 Video Card

Does anyone have any better suggestions for that price range? Thanks in advance!

I saw some rumours it might be about $449-499 mark but they are only rumours but looking likely it will launch before pCARS so you will have time to make your decision. Maxwell architecture is much more efficient than Kepler and main thing is it addresses its weak compute performance compared to AMD cards like compare budget GTX 750Ti card compared to higher up Nvidia cards like the GTX 770: Link (Incredible performance given how little power it consumes and Kepler was very efficient when released so huge improvement while at same manufacturing node of 28nm)

I imagine it will deliver considerable performance per watt advantage and compute performance compared to the GTX 780 so definitely worth waiting a month or so to see how well it might exactly be and if in budget. Worst case might be that it lowers the prices of the old products by a noticeable amount, you will likely win either way. Might be even able to get a GTX 870 which might perform better than GTX 780 and if it is much more efficient, likely to get a shorter card too. Will be interesting to see how the cards actually perform soon as hopefully next month.

That all sounds good to me. Some good spec info in that link, thanks buddy. Looks like I'll wait it out.

GTX780 Ti.
It will get cheaper when the 8xx comes out.
So you might be able to get 2 and SLI them.

Hmm I've never SLI'd video cards before. Would they outperform the 880 you think Fox?

Jerome

They would most likely outperform the 880 in games by a considerable margin. However going by current prices you will likely only be able to get one in your budget and the 880 will hopefully be of a similar price.

Ah, okay I kind of figured that.

If you do plan to SLI

You will need a motherboard that supports it and a powersupply to power them, and lets not forget the case to house them
