I forget today was Tues Day...

Had a long weekend and got all the dates mixed up. It stinks missing the race because the room wouldn't load. Ended up about 1 minute~late. Good luck all.

Well, that went well...
I think from now on we should be resetting the lounge (as in everyone quits and reenters after B is already there) when there are early signs of trouble like screwed up time transition or weird fast lap deltas.

Good race guys had fun. Look forward to Twin Ring next Tueseday.

That race was terrible. It was too laggy to pass anyone safely, the car had a sporting chance of deciding not to turn every other turn... Good job everyone, I shudder to think what that would've been like in other series.

EDIT: @DSG - The time progression issue is game related, not connection related.

Yeah, as you can see you didn't miss much. Room was laggy, cars were surging and jumping, sudden moments of zero grip, time transition did not work and for me my steering wheel was cocked to the 11:00 position for some reason. I could turn left (too) easily but turning right was very difficult. I was considering not counting this race and trying to re-do it but I think the final results are fairly close to what it would have been under normal circumstance so I'll let it stand. Congrats to KB on his first win with us. Thanks to everyone for sticking it out.

Lancer I thought I would be able to get you. The lag shunt I got killed my tires. I had to pit. I had less than 1/4 tire left after the lag shunt. I do not blame anyone for the lag. Heck, it might have been me. 👎 I was hoping for better than 10th. I hate it for carr. If you would have shown up a minute or two earlier then you could have made it. Great win KingJR 👍 I will not be there Friday, so I will see you guys next Tuesday at Motegi. :indiff:

If I wouldn't have been paying attention to the map, you would've. I was going to hit torzilla across the line and slowed down to find him. Saw you coming at the last possible second.

Yeah, something was wrong with that room, I would have made it in before the race start but the room wouldn't load up.

I'm coming early on Friday, just incase we get a repeat.

From what I've read, in a private lounge in shouldn't make any difference who the host is as we run off of each other instead of from the host's network/connection. But it seems like every time I have to leave the room and rejoin, promoting someone else to host, weird problems arise. They're normally not this bad, but from now on I'll get myself promoted back to host to try to avoid future problems.

From experience the league im in and a steward of the GTRRL, we used to race in lounges. But in reading up and testing the best way to get rid of lag and for best connection is a public lobby non-fixed host and no mics. 👍

Idk, SNAIL guys seem to think it matters and usually try to get their host to enter the lounge first.
I'd try disabling mics before going public rooms if this persists.

Joined Snail for 1 week and was in D1 and the guys were quick but just a little to aggressive of driving for me and to short of races which made everyone a little more aggressive. Prefer longer races where being smoother and not making mistakes mean more. :)

It's just the format. Saw it before a couple of times. We even had it with this group. Short race+reverse grid+fairly close skill=too many aggressive moves in every corner. Didn't really get to experience the same thing myself with snail guys, since I was just too slow and sloppy one time I ran with them, but I can imagine it happens more often than I'd prefer.

The worst case was in RT1600's FR-S series. People were sticking their noses into tiniest of openings and not backing off.

Not my race. I did a clean 28.5 in practice and felt I could extract a little more in quali but at the end of my first flying lap I went too fast into the first ford chicane and put my wheels on the grass on exit, couldn't slow down in time and had to cut the second chicane, coasted to the finish, but it was still a 29.1. Seeing as how I lost a lot of momentum coasting after the chicane, it would have been hard to do a better second lap and overwrite the invalid one, so I exited and took my place at the back. In retrospect, it was silly to be so aggressive there considering I had a bad start to that lap and the lap would have been a mid-29 at best, which is relatively slow.

During the race I worked my way up from the back row, into second place. By the time I got into that position, KingBest was already 9 seconds up the road and I could only make marginal gains into his lead. Behind me, I was pulling away from cnd and I felt I could have escaped the draft if not for an error in the Porsche curves where I went onto the grass and had to slide and lift to avoid crashing. I lost maybe 2 seconds and cnd and his train caught right up to me and all of them passed me on the Hunaudieres on the next lap. I was sort of stuck in that position so I just hung around until the lag incident where I lost over 30 seconds and a big chunk of tires. I had fun battling Brandon, Lancer and normal at the end on worn rubber. 👍
I was considering not counting this race and trying to re-do it but I think the final results are fairly close to what it would have been under normal circumstance so I'll let it stand.
I would contest this seeing as how I went from being in the fight for second to losing half a minute and a big chunk of my tires in a 100% lag related incident. :indiff:

But I would still recommend to keep the result. A few of us lost out, chalk it up to bad luck and move on. Things out of our control happens in real life racing too. My lag incident felt like I got hit by a meteorite, that happens in real life racing too, right?

You mean GT 86? The non-abs FR-S series was really clean racing.

You mean GT 86?
Yeah.

Yeah, I looked at the replay of that, lured by real-time Jeff's reaction.
Him and Fox got away with both of their rear suspension broken (on my replay) ;).

In retrospect you should've tried to get out of the sand by the road along the fence.

I know exactly who's fault this is.

In my defense, that was the first time I've ever gone off at that spot on the course. And I was little confused and thinking about what just happened. But now I know for next time. ;)
I know exactly who's fault this is.
To be fair, my road to the front wasn't exactly spot free either. When I got into third, I'm pretty sure I did some sort of mistake that allowed cnd to pull a gap in second. I don't remember quite what it was, but it cost me, you, grayfox and johnny a little time.

Edit: Watching the replay, the race sure was laggy. A little more than I remember in real time. :scared:

Congradulations on the win KingBestJr. Also a big 👍 Owensracing and Sagarismic for starting the race in the back and working your way to the front of the field. Nicely done. Race was lag filled but I still had a blast. See ya'll on Friday

Was a strange race indeed. I did drive the wheels of it to get back into the mix. GrayFox and I worked together and fought our way to front. Lag and all. ;)

I'm wondering if they haven't done server work and we need an update to mesh correctly. I've seen a load of people having issues lately. Sporadic with no rhyme or reason.

First, congrats King on the victory...well done:tup:

Second, I'm glad it wasn't just me. Car never felt right all race, I got stuck running near DSG for a big part of the race, which normally would be a good thing as we can use each other's draft to make up some time, but whenver I was near him he was lagging a little, not crazy lag like with CND, but appearing to go off into the dirt in the chicanes, shimmying back and forth and side to side.

Third, no one else has suggested this so maybe it's just me, but if I had a choice, I'd rather not take a car to LeMans again that's on the rev limiter in the draft. I thought it cause too much bunching up into the chicanes and into all the corners really as even when you got a good draft run on someone, you didn't get very much gap on them. On top of that it just doesn't feel right, sort of like throwing a blanket over the car if you know what I mean.

Now that lag is a factor, never really having been one before in ORCA that I remember, I suggest we go back to basics. As someone mentioned, B should be the room host, Mic's should be disabled for the room...etc.

Anytime I got in a pack there was usually one car that was jittering around with lag. I am sorry if I made contact with anyone because I couldn't help it. I had a top 5 run going, but the lag cost me. You can keep the results if you want to, but it wouldn't bother me if we had a re-do :dopey:

We tested and discussed it during the preseason. We very rarely hit the limiter in testing, I didn't think it would be a problem and still don't see it as a problem but I understand your sentiment. In my opinion it helped to minimize the over-exaggerated draft and lessen the chance of a pack breaking away from the rest of the field. It did both of these well, whether that's a good thing or not is open to interpretation. I think I only hit the limiter once but when I was in somebody's draft I would back off to about 95% throttle to avoid hitting it, focus on getting a good entry/exit out of the chicane or turn and then attack (in theory).

If lag continues to be a factor we will consider those options. For now I'll just make sure I'm the "host" of the room, I really think last night was a one-off thing and any number of reasons could have caused it. I have my eye on the situation though. We've normally had very little issue with lag/connections so I'm not too worried....yet.

It is odd how, so far, most of the ORCA races have been "OK".
In PURE races, all we have are problems, disconnections, 100% tire noise loss for everyone, lag, other odd stuff (guys disappearing miid race, tire temp glitch).

I know you guys tested it in pre-season and everyone seemed to be in agreement so I didn't say anything because I wasn't there and I'd just be the lone dissenter like I am now...lol. I hit the rev limiter multiple times per lap whenever I was running with anyone and keeping the pack together seems like a good thing on paper but on a track this big with heavy braking zones it's not always a good thing. I'm just not a fan of hitting the rev limiter because I think it's too limiting (pun intended)

Hey Guys
I'll be joining you all for the fun friday night and look forward to racing with you all, looks like alot of fun and close racing just what im looking for .
I'm Clint by the way see you all friday :)

Your opinion isn't wrong and several people shared that opinion during the testing. I'm sure most people here would prefer to never hit the rev limiter during any race. I normally go out of my way to avoid just such a scenario but I really wanted to do another day-night-day race at this track and the limiter issue wasn't quite bad enough to convince me otherwise so I went with it. Too bad the time transition didn't work. 👎

Remember that your (the drivers) objective is to try to win the race, thus anything that prevents you from pulling away from other cars is a bad thing. My self-imposed objective is to provide an environment that allows each of us to have fun, avoid driving around by ourself for 30 minutes, and most of all improve our racecraft. Keeping the pack together is the best way to do that, none of us will learn anything cruising around an empty track. The oval race seemed like a boring tire conservation fest but I guarantee we're all better drivers after running it. I know I learned a helluva lot. Same with la Sarthe, keeping the field tight will likely result in a few bruised fenders but we'll never learn to deal with those situations otherwise.

I'm not saying my method is right or wrong or your opinion is right or wrong, just trying to show my thought process behind picking these races. I've realized and weighed all those factors before making the race choices but I also tend to look at things slightly differently. Some drivers already know this stuff but some don't and as my signature says, you can always improve your own performance. 👍 I like to think we have some of the cleanest and most respectful drivers on GTPlanet and a lot of that is because of the experiences we've encountered on track, both good and bad, and how we've learned from them.

I don't see how a rev-limiter is a factor in bunching-up of the pack. If anything, it works the other way. And it also equalizes speeds after long straights, so that braking markers in theory shouldn't be moving much from lap to lap.

People choosing not to bump-draft non-leader (AND not easing off the throttle before big braking zones when driving close to someone) is by-far the bigger reason for the bunching-up Johnny might've experienced. Some of this was forced, due to lag, some of it was purely voluntary.

I didnt have any lag on my end. Do wish we would of had some night racing love the night racing at LeMans. Not a fan of racing the track itself but is fun at night. Just never been a fan of tracks that are alot about drafting. I am more a fan of the technical courses. Cant wait for next Tuesdays race!!(Twin Ring)

^ Drafting is way over-emphasized in this game. When they first introduced the option for strong/weak draft the weak was actually pretty good, it was very weak. The very next update they increased the weak draft to where there's hardly any difference between it and the strong draft. It comes pretty close to completely ruining the racing experience and making competition pointless. I try my best to balance between high draft and low draft races. Exaggerated draft racing can be fun and I embrace it at times, but I would much rather it be reduced.

I've never raced real cars at these speeds but other than how far back the draft kicks in, I think it's pretty reasonable on the weak setting. When I first started racing karts we were topping out around 80km/h and even at those speeds, we utilized the draft all the time. On the bigger, faster tracks, 2 or more guys working together could easily pull away from a driver behind and out of the draft. On most tracks in GT5 you need a straight several hundred metres long before you can make a clean draft pass which seems pretty reasonable to me.

I agree with DSG. Though, like Johnny, I hit the rev limiter very easily during the race, I don't think it's a negative in particular. I think the rev limiter limits the exaggerated effect of the draft and does not enhance the "bunching up at corners" effect. I have experienced "bunching up" during races at La Sarthe in the past even when cars didn't hit the rev limiter, the "bunching up" is a consequence of the strong "weak" draft and the fact that we were racing in relatively large packs.
