Yeah, I hadn't had enough coffee in me yet to know what I was saying. :drool: It's a tricky situation for sure, the only real way to make pitstop necessary is to add another 20-30 minutes to the length of the races. I really don't want to do that, I start to get bored in 45-50 minute races as it is since I'm usually driving around by myself after lap 4 or 5.
 
RS tires seem to be back to their old wear rates or somewhere close to it with this update. Given the Silvia's relatively low weight/hp combo with added downforce, I wouldn't be surprised if even RS tires could go the distance now. It may even be that there is no tire for this car that can't last the race distance so if there's a pitstop it'll have to be mandatory.

I drove that car on the n-ring before. It killed me, killed me dead. Several times in fact. It is very opposed to having the front of the car facing forward.

I love that car on CH tires, I spent 2 hours running laps at the ring with it a few weeks ago. Rained of and on. It's not as bad as you would think.
Mind you my DFGT is not going to last very long of I keep doing that :D
The key was to keep both feet on the pedals entering corners.
 
It was on N3s, the GT4 equivalent of CS.

Yeah, I do that too from time to time, when I find my throttle control getting lazy. Just tried it again, and the new progressively-getting-rather-deafening tire noise helps quite a bit. I find the key technique to start counter steering immediately after turning-in :dopey:

Sorry guys, I wanted to do more testing this weekend but I ended up being pretty busy.

We did some testing on Friday but there were only about a half-dozen of us so we didn't learn too much. We did a qualifying session with collisions/draft ON and we were all spread out enough that I don't think anyone got any kind of draft. In reality this is how it would pan out more times than not and I don't think having the draft during qualifying would ever end up being that big of a deal.

I'm really leaning towards leaving collisions/draft on during qualifying and continuing with the format we've been using (meaning no manual gridding). This group is very good at following instructions and I feel that if I ask (via the text box) everyone to spread out, give each other room and try to avoid drafting then most people will play nicely and we won't have any issues. If somebody does happen to catch a draft and knock a half second off their time I don't think that's a big deal, these races are long enough for everything to shake out naturally. And as I said before, I wouldn't mind an element that may shake things up a bit. The draft is weaker now which means it will be slightly less of an issue.

If I thought that this would cause things to be unfair I wouldn't consider it. I'm pretty confident that the fast guys are still going to be at the front, they might just have a new face or two up there with them from time to time. I do not think it will keep the fast guys from getting to the front and battling for the win, and they are just as likely to get some help from the draft in qualifying as anyone so nobody is at a disadvantage. I have had three people PM me asking we don't do manual gridding, as well DSG has expressed in this thread his dislike for manual grids. I haven't had anyone PM me asking to have the draft off during qualifying and going with the manual grid option so I think I have some support in my corner.

So, for the beginning of the season I would like to continue with our regular format of a 10 minute group qualifying session leading directly to the race, no manual grid which means collisions/draft will be ON during qualifying. I will make a clear request before the session for people to try to avoid excessive drafting and drivers are free to pull over if they feel someone is getting an unfair draft off of them (but you're more likely to hurt your own chances by doing this). I don't think we'll have any real problems, this situation is closer to the real-world and I think we all like to have our racing as close to real-world as possible. BUT, if we do run into problems I will change format and we will switch to having collisions/draft OFF and do a manual grid. We will go with this plan for the first two weeks and if we see it is causing an issue we will change for the rest of the season. But so far we have not proven that having the draft on during qualifying will cause issues and I don't want to change our whole format based on a "maybe". If there is a problem we will adapt, but not until we know for sure that there is a problem. 👍
 
Sounds good to me. Seems very reasonable and fair to everyone. I would just suggest to probably PM everyone and remind them all if they are still in this. Just seems its been like the same 5-7 guys who been practicing. And maybe some people forgot or not interested. Hopefully it will be a good lineup Tuesday.

I am on the fence as well. Not sure if I'll have time.

I do need some seat time on HSR, though. I rather loathe that track, so I very rarely ever drive there.
 
I can't make it tonight. I would like to though. I should be there for the opener.
 
Anyone know a decent time around HSR? Just so I have something to shoot for in the event I can run some laps later on myself.

I'm not sure of Brandon's plans, but I'm not too sure that the pre-season race will feature HSR. I need some seat-time too, but I guess I'll have to use pre-race practice tomorrow.
 
I was planning on going to HSR tonight since (I presume) most of us don't have a lot of experience there. We might wander off to another place afterwards but we'll start off at HSR.
