Sorry if I caused any issues with the room, my Internet completely died during the race... I lost everything on my end.
 
Well, for the first half of the race I think I might have led the most laps, was running in the lead pack in 1st and 2nd, then my screen froze for a half second half way through the final turn and next thing I knew I was riding the guardrail and spinning. Since I lost the lead pack I decided to drop back and race with NC to avoid boredom, about two laps later he DC'd and a half a lap later I joined the disco and ended up at the GT Life screen. Hope this isn't going to be a regular thing.

Really good racing until then, some of the most fun I've had and the top 4 had a pretty righteous battle right up to the end. 👍 See you all Tuesday at GVE-R

Some good racing tonight. Epic fail on my part though. After colliding with Brandon going into the guardrail, I fell back 5+ seconds from the impact and some damage, but figured if I was patient and shaved off a couple tenths here and there I could make it back to the lead pack, which I did. Used up some tires but not so much that I couldn't contend. Lost concentration late in the race and wrecked all by myself, ironically, in the exact same spot Brandon wrecked earlier. Sorry I missed out on the finish.

I'm noticing a pattern shaping up in GT5 now. The issues seem to be very minute in duration lately. Brandon's screen freeze, CND's lag issues, disconnections. They are incredibly short but the effects are huge. Whenever I've seen bad lag before, it usually went on for quite a while, many seconds or tens of seconds and usually either a race was aborted, the person DC'd or in rare cases, the lag would cease. CND's lag seems to happen only for a second or two then he's fine, which I've never really seen before, or at least not often anyway. One thing about PD, there's alway a surpise in store somewhere..lol.

You're right. Normally the temporary lag is really just a big shimmy, happens a couple times with no real issue and then everything's fine. CND's lag was the catastrophic kind where his car suddenly zaps to a different part of the track and has an instantaneous change of direction with lots of smoke. CND's car did this once for about a half second and then went back to normal. I don't believe I saw any of that tonight though.
 
Good racing tonight. I missed getting caught up too badly in a couple crashes, helped pull that off. I was able to save my tires for the most part, but still with the DS3 I wasn't that much better off.
I tried to run like last on Thursday, almost had it, just didn't save enough rubber. After getting caught I gave up, and now with my wasted grip advantage it was really down to luck. That happened on the last corner when both Bain and I got hit with oversteer. I was able to keep a clean exit giving me the buffer I need for a win.
Funny how in the end it was 50/50 USA / Canada :lol:

Well, I did my second auto cross today and finished first in my class! Granted, there was only one other car in my class but it was a well prepared late 80's Mustang with an experienced driver. I also beat the guy I went with who drives a prepped BMW 3 series and also has lots of experience.....and he's also a class higher!. I liked the course much better this time and managed to take some of the understeer. Got 6 runs in this time and made a few friends.

Do you wear the helmet when playing GT5?
You look like you know where your hands are. I've watched videos where the guys have the worst hand-on-wheel positions I've seen period, auto'xing. They spend more time fighting the wheel then keeping the cars wight settled.

Ha. No, it was my buddy's loaner helmet. My helmet was kinda scrapped in the motorcycle wreck last year. But my dad sold his bike and tonight he gave me his almost new Bell modular full face helmet. 👍

I take it that means my hands were good? I generally keep them at 9 and 3 and use muscles in the outside arm to do most of the steering. I try to be fairly precise with my hands and seething position, not just random placements. I also yank the seat belt so it looks and then scoot the seat up so it holds me in place good, kinda like a faux harness.
 
I'd be down for some practice tomorrow evening... Gonna miss the Tuesday race because of work, but I should make it Friday.

I've seen those before. Clever device but a little pricey for something I can accomplish with what I already have. Maybe The eBay has them cheaper.....💡

I think I paid around 20USD, but it was many years ago now. Still works great, though. Being a WRX, Schroth likely makes a solo-legal harness that clips into the rear seat belt attachments. That said, I've never felt the need in a WRX as the factory seats already have rather large bolsters.
 
The guy I go with has one of those harnesses that attaches to the rear seat belts, I like those but haven't looked into them yet. My seats have very good bolstering, usually the first thing people comment on when they get in my car. I was not moving around at all that I remember but I also used the faux harness trick. I'd slide my seat back a few notches from the normal position and then yank the belt so it locked. Once it was locked I would scoot the seat back forward so it pushed me into the seat belt and forced it to stay locked by getting rid of the slack. It was probably just as snug as that CG lock......and free! :)
 
Yeah, honestly; harnesses and the like would be something I wouldn't worry about until it is holding you back. I'm going to try posting a video; we'll see if this works.

That looks like a fun course! Seemed to be less confusing than the two I've been to. Love the airfield layout too. The Indy region is having one this weekend on an air force base runway, I've always wanted to drive around on a runway (for some reason) so I'm tempted to go.

And I agree about the harness, it's not something I'm too worried about right now as it wasn't an issue at all. I just did the seat belt trick for a little extra assurance. 👍
 
I'm not a fan of seats in the current generation WRX and STIs, but they are okay for autox. Personally, I had the CG lock since I was too annoyed by the necessity to manually reset the seat back into proper position after sliding it back to lock the belts. Then I had a car with position memory and sold the CG lock. No position memory once more and I'll probably pick one up again.

Are they different from the '08 seats?

Well it seems we have confirmation that there is an issue with online play right now. It's good to know they're working on it but in the short term it means we are very likely to experience more issues. I'll be online in about an hour, if anybody can join we'll do several short(ish) races at GVE-R to see how we fare.

Every few hours or so, some rooms are disconnecting everyone (not just in 1 room but many rooms at once, sometime the full reign).

I think when the reign goes down PD or Sony did it manually, trying to fix the problem.

Yes, the airstrip courses are a different animal. I prefer the typically higher speeds and thread the needle sections. National championships always has one 'parking lot' and one 'airstrip' course layout. This course was a very typical course of that type, albeit average speeds were perhaps a bit above a proper PAX course. I particularly enjoyed the lack of slow digs, and the course kept the torqueless wonder on the cams most of the time. You can hear the car bounce the limiter 4 different times on course. The final element to the finish was all on the limiter. I grabbed 3rd a couple of runs and it was a wash there(deviaton of .180; noise). I'll see if I can find someone else's run on the same course later on. The differences are sometimes alarming.

I plan to be in the lounge within the hour.
 
I will probably be online to run some laps soon. I am very very very VERY envious of Brandon and Marcus. I have always wanted to Autocross, but I don't have the car, money, or time to do it :lol:

I should have the lounge open in 5-10 minutes
