[PC] DCS 1.5 & 2.0 Open Alpha

They're aiming to release NTTR by tomorrow. We know they have pretty sloppy aim though, but we're close. Also last chance to pre-purchase for 20% off is most likely tonight. I just got it. :D

Dear all,

As we prepare for the launch DCS: NEVADA Test and Training Range Open Alpha Map, I wanted to inform you how the product will be released in order to avoid confusion on the launch day (shooting for November 30th, 2015).

When you purchase and download the new map, you will essentially be installing a new, stand-alone build. This unique Open Alpha build will consist of DCS World 2.0 and the Nevada map. All modules will install within the Nevada map Open Alpha as they do with the release and Open Beta versions.

Why the need for a separate, stand-alone build you ask? Because at this time the Nevada map and the Black Sea map use two different evolutions of the terrain engine (T4 for Nevada and T3 for the Black Sea). We are still in the process of converting the Black Sea map to T4 which will allow both maps to co-exist in the same DCS version. In order to release Nevada this month, we needed to create a separate version.

The current release version and Open Beta will stay intact.

Once the Nevada map exits the Alpha stage, it and DCS World 2.0 will be merged into the stable, release version of DCS World or the Open Beta (TBD).

A few weeks after release of the Nevada Open Alpha and we've had a chance to squash the most ugly bugs, we will then release a version for Steam.

Thanks
-Wags

Survived yay :gtpflag:

Are there new A-10 liveries??

No idea, I have some livery mods running in JSGME so could be one of those. My squadron (229th) livery mod has a lot of liveries for different type of aircraft and sometimes online I see other people flying in those liveries so I guess it overwrites some of the stock ones.

The Hawk has some new liveries though :)

If DCS online doesn't lag-freeze when someone spawns in a Mig-21, that'd be great!

Oh so that's what's been causing that?? Holy crap this whole time I just thought it was all related to the memory leak. I tried to go on MP tonight but game crashed twice within a minute of starting up my plane. I know for certain I was flying near a Mig21 the 2nd time.

But after giving up on MP I just loaded up a training mission and played around with the A-10A's guided rockets and unguided bombs (don't ask me to name them...). If anyone wants a good all-around training mission/playground I'm using this one. http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/994462/ 👍

Hey thanks man I've been looking for something like this.

Yeah that's probably what is causing it. Got to say though DCS used 10gb of memory last night :scared:

Mavericks and the MK's?

Oh yes, there was a Maverick involved and I did have some MK rocket pods. Forget the name of the unguided bombs I used but it was a big one :D

Glad that mission will help :) Just beware the Su25s that you engage... some of them have supernatural dog fighting abilities whereas the other planes just kind of fly around and don't really shoot at you.

Hmm maybe the skill of the Su25 pilots is set too high. I'll check if I can set them to average :P

Now downloading 2.0 alpha, 90mb/s!!

edit;
Ehhh that was the part it downloaded from 1.5, that was already on my drive. Now downloading the update with 160kb/s

Yeah mine is taking for ever, I'm getting 5mb/s at most and usually around 1mb/s or less when I look at it. I'm wondering will the http download be faster, I have a 100mb/s internet.

Me too, but I'm not sure if this one is from a torrent. The previous one said something like "press cancel to download from http" and I don't see that now.

That's strange, I have that cancel to download from http message on my one. I'm just over a third of the way there after about 2.5 hours.

I've heard people saying the http is even slower, so I have not tried it yet.

Oh hmm. Maybe it's already downloading from http. I didn't press cancel though. Downloading for 50 minutes and I'm on ~25%.. Word goes you have to still download Nevada after this.

I already have the DCS 2.0 downloaded, I'm downloading Nevada right now. DCS 2.0 is about 2gb and Nevada is about 24gb.

Sucks to hear about how slow this is. I wonder if anyone's gonna be able to fly in NTTR at all today. ED have gotten better with delivering updates lately but their transfer rate is something that I hope they address soon...

Yep it's pretty slow, I have about 15% left to download now. There are people that have it already downloaded, but not many. The amount of Peers changes by the second, up and down always between 25-30, I think this is the main problem, there is no way to seed once the download is finished.

Okay so 2.0 installed, tried to download a module via http but couldn't get more than 150kb/s. Now Nevada via torrent with speeds between 0.5 and 2.5 mb/s.. I don't dare to try with http.

Does anyone know how to have a free flight starting on the ground with a plane? I just like to start the plane up and go fly around aimlessly, there doesn't seem to be an obvious option for this anywhere in DCS.

Have you tried the mission editor? I haven't check the 2.0 mission editor but if it's like 1.0/1.5: mission editor, on the left you see icons of planes, helicopters etc. Click on it, on the right you should see an options view. You can select the verhicle you wish to fly there. It doesn't matter if you do this before or after placing the aircraft, as long it's active. You can place the aircraft at a random position on the airfield, on the right you can select if you want to start from the ramp, runway or at altitude.

I'm not sure if it was here but try to set one of the options to "player" or "client". I thought it was behind "skill". Then when you hit the green button on the left you can save and start. You should be able to click on the aircraft and then fly. If somethings happen, left shift+R should restart the mission.

So I think I have 2.0 downloaded. After the first 2+Gb download it then went to "checking for updates" then gave me a timeout error. Trying to install NTTR manually gives me the same error.

I think we hugged their servers* to death.

*this implies that they actually have more than one server, which at this point is questionable.

Ah ok thanks, I'll have a look at the mission editor. I've only been doing tutorial missions in the SU-25T since I got DCS :D. I thought it would be some default free flight mode or something.

You could also try going to quick match or instant action menu. Pick your plane, turn off all the enemies, set time/weather, then fly now. I've not had much experience with mission editor so that's how I do it.
