Played around Groom Lake today and found the nuclear testing sites. Maybe 10 miles southwest of Area 51 are a crap ton of craters from all the bombs they tested. A bunch aren't pictured here but the biggest one I could find is right below me here.

I did more testing today and I've declared the Las Vegas area off-limits until I get new hardware. Even with most things on low and a few on medium I just can't fly in that area. With most things on high I can fly around the desert and Groom Lake just fine. So I explored the desert some more :D

Found the Little A'Le'Inn, an extraterrestrial-themed hotel/compound in the town of Rachel and is probably as close as most people can get to Area 51. Pretty well detailed.

I really should jump to the A-10C... I got carried away and did a 2+ hour custom mission with the A-10A last night because I was having too much fun.


Btw, were you on the Hoggit server last night? A player named carlos was on for a minute and left. Was wondering if it happened to be you.

BRRRRTTT :D I know what you mean. We flew for six hours today.. If you get the C you don't want anything else :P

Hmm yes that's possible. The server name is not just Hoggit right? I remember something with "fox" in it.

The guy flying with us today uses tacview, it tracks your flight etc.

Trying out force correlation and it makes life a bit easier. From far away though can't beat the TGP, laser SPI and you get much more range out of the Mav :dopey:

Made a quick mission where 4 bombers are making their way to Groom Lake and Las Vegas and you gotta haul it to intercept. I realize I only have 4 missiles loaded and each bomber takes at least 2 missiles each to go down... but they had respawning missiles in AC so I will too :D

Looks like when I'm playing :D :O


You see me fire three mavs but the plane starts rolling (my flight lead told me), you see the third mav hit the ground and the plane is gone so I started an attack with guns. Then you can see my partner smoking heavily after he got hit by AAA (you can see them shoot at him before I start shooting my canon). I turn around and get the last three targets with my last three mavs. :cheers:
 
There's a new update for the DCS World 2 Open Alpha which seems to make it run a little better. I was able to set some things like textures back to high and could fly over Vegas... barely. I didn't have a memory problem until about 2 hours in. It's getting there 👍

Also, Mirage 2000C drops next week. Almost an instant buy for me but I really don't want to try flying a full fidelity Gen 4 fighter on an MS Sidewinder II... I need some upgrades before I take the plunge :D



edit: I FINALLY HAVE A SHINY SABRE! I guess the 3rd party skins are shiny while the in game ones aren't, which is weird. Might just be me...

Mirage 2000C is out. Almost an instant buy for me but I'm holding off for now to see how people like it. It looks... interesting.

Having enough fun with the A-10C and Huey at the moment. Never really been a fan of the Mirages styling too. I hope VEAO releases the Typhoon in 2016, it says on their Q&A page. It'll be an A2A aircraft mainly but free fall bombs may be implemented.

Razbam btw gets to use the DCS ground radar and are thinking about modeling the F-15E and A-7. They confirmed the Harrier GR7 and GR9 :)

Well I was bored today so I went ahead and got it. It might be the nicest plane to fly in the game right now. Very easy to move around and some of the maneuvers you can pull are pretty incredible. I'm only having difficulty with startup/shutdown, etc. right now because everything is in French.

The manual they included is okay but seems to leave some things out... I'm waiting for a simplified manual and preferably one that has pictures of every button you're pressing as you go down the list (because going over every button to read its label one at a time is a PITA).

Also it beeps at you for everything. But it's still really cool. And fast. In the second image and under the air speed is the Mach #. That's Mach 2.28!!

Edit: so I remembered another thing I don't like about it at the moment... the controls that have covers over them can still be operated even when the covers are closed. So during startup, you have to have the cover to the fire extinguisher open... when I clicked to open it, I just turned the extinguishers on (which I don't think actually did anything, but still). Even worse, when I went to turn off the FBW the same thing happened. Btw, NEVER turn off the FBW on the Mirage. Instant craziness, even more so than pressing 'S' on the Su27.
