PC strikes back at Mac commercials.

...So all the switchers who jumped ship to Macs and say "Mac OSX is better" are wrong.

Riiiight.

Mac OSX is better at something things than windows. Windows is better at others. So if you think MacOSX is better at everything, yes you're wrong.

I don't care to join this argument because fighting over which bit of software is better is kind of lame, they all do basically the same things, just in slightly different ways. If you talk to end users everyone will have a different opinion; if you talk to developers everyone will have a different opinion (although I have yet to meet a developer that doesn't admit that MSFT does a really good job of simplifying our lives....;))

Anyways I got a laugh out of this article, it is obviously facetious to a great extent so don't get all up in arms!

The best bits here for your viewing pleasure...

PCs are the ramshackle computers of the people. You can build your own from scratch, then customise it into oblivion. Sometimes you have to slap it to make it work properly, just like the Tardis (Doctor Who, incidentally, would definitely use a PC). PCs have charm; Macs ooze pretension. When I sit down to use a Mac, the first thing I think is, "I hate Macs", and then I think, "Why has this rubbish aspirational ornament only got one mouse button?" Losing that second mouse button feels like losing a limb. If the ads were really honest, Webb would be standing there with one arm, struggling to open a packet of peanuts while Mitchell effortlessly tore his apart with both hands. But then, if the ads were really honest, Webb would be dressed in unbelievably po-faced avant-garde clothing with a gigantic glowing apple on his back. And instead of conducting a proper conversation, he would be repeatedly congratulating himself for looking so cool, and banging on about how he was going to use his new laptop to write a novel, without ever getting round to doing it, like a mediocre idiot.

Cue 10 years of nasal bleating from Mac-likers who profess to like Macs not because they are fashionable, but because "they are just better". Mac owners often sneer that kind of defence back at you when you mock their silly, posturing contraptions, because in doing so, you have inadvertently put your finger on the dark fear haunting their feeble, quivering soul - that in some sense, they are a superficial semi-person assembled from packaging; an infinitely sad, second-rate replicant who doesn't really know what they are doing here, but feels vaguely significant and creative each time they gaze at their sleek designer machine. And the more deftly constructed and wittily argued their defence, the more terrified and wounded they secretly are.

And your point is? Like that is Apple's fault.
Yes it is. XCode sucks. MSDN puts Mac Developer Connection to shame. Cocoa looks like like a platform Microsoft designed 15 years ago (MFC).

I agree completely.

Trying to say one is better over another because of what it does is silly. It depends on what you want to do as to what you should need.

My personal experience is that Macs are more stable and I enjoy audio and video editting. My current PC does these okay, but a Mac doesn't sound or act like it is choking while it does it. On the other hand, if I wanted to be some kind of hardcore 24/7 WoW player (or pick your game) or something then it would be all about the PC.

I mean, next we will hear people say XBox is best because of Halo or Playstation is best because of Gran Turismo or....oh wait.

Honestly, the only reason I haven't bought an iMac is because of the lack of support for alot of my favorite games. I'm a pretty hardcore gamer, so I'm probably going to always be sticking to my PC until I hit the lottery and have enough cash to have the best of the best of both worlds. If developers started supporting OSX, then I bet you $50 Mac sales would skyrocket. I'm not a Mac fanboy or anything, but I have to say, I do like the overall layout better. It's the compatibility issues that kill Mac, though.

People have their own opinions about certain OSes.

I like Windows as it is, but sometimes, it has it's losses and wins.

Mac OS X for me would just be an OS to chill in, chat, go on the internet. For me, it's just mostly user friendly. And I hated a Mac before, now in my PC Tech class, for free time, I go on the eMac's there (They're for video production) And I just go on Adium there and go online to some other sites.

Agreed. Reading one of these threads is like listening to an import guy argue with a domestic guy, but far less interesting and relevant.

But I thought macs were for fun stuff!

Isn't that the guy from dodgeball?

But it is just as hilarious.

Serious guys, the adverts were pretty funny. sure they worked on stereotypes but stereotypes are only not funny when you realise you fit it.

Erm....have they not realised that all of the latest Macs except for the laptops come bundled with the 4 button Mighty Mouse? And a remote control. Plus you can plug in most manufacturer's mice to a Mac system and it will work without having to search for new drivers.

Yeah, I have to say the "1 Mouse Button" thing is getting old now. Especially since the Mighty Mouse was created, and almost any normal USB mouse will work with a Mac nowadays if I recall correctly.

Like Skip said, that article was not meant to be taken so seriously. If you read it again, I'm sure you can get a few laughs in as well. :)

I'm sure it is quite funny in places but they're still lying!

The Mac and PC ads aren't the most truthful either, yet some are quite funny. One thing to remember: We're going to get that "one-button mouse" argument thrown our way for many more years. Also, the "smug, arrogant" argument will be there forever. At least the article mixed it with humor, so both 'worlds' can have a laugh.

How can you have an advertise a 'pc' anyway, it's not like pc are an actual company.

Also 90% of the posts in this thread make me cringe.

Haha, I'm really surprised they actually found something to complain about. But it's not exactly funny, either. The mac ones are so much better. Especially the new UK ones with those 2 from peep show.

Well, it's not like a PC is the machine for the average idiot, while the Mac is the only real computer, is it? The Mac isn't flawless either.

One thing that is consistant in the Internet Forum community is the presence of the ubiquitous "Mac vs Windoze" thread...

This was my reply to the one over at Rennlist:

I am always amused by the fervent ardor of the OS war threads, here and elsewhere. If anything, I've learned that you can find out a lot about cyber-community citizens by how they argue their positions in this protracted and often bitter subject.

I'm not an IT guy, nor do I play one on YouTube. But I am what IT guys would consider (and have even called me and had my user settings configured for in the work intranet) a Power User, with both Windows and Macintosh environments. (I don't really have any direct experience with Linux.)

There are things I like both systems, as well as thing I hate about both. I use both at work and at home. Business apps, the full MSOffice suite, Science apps, graphics, games, web page authoring...in each of these tasks I have my preferred platform and in most cases I can "work" on either.

Which one do I like better? Ask me again sometime when I'm having a hard drive filled with critical data crash (Did you have it backed up? Yes, but the latest was 3 days ago). Or while during a huge render, a silly background app that I forgot to shutdown developes a memory leak, freezing the whole process.

In the end, these miracle boxes are merely tools. To get all filled with self righteous indignation about one or the other is silly and non-productive.

I have to add that not only is the arguement silly and non-productive, it's also sophomoric...

Isn't that the guy from dodgeball?
Yep, and the TV show Ed and Jeepers Creepers and he will be in the new Die Hard movie. I think his best performance was in Jeepers Creepers, well the last minute anyway. :)
Yes, but don't get off topic.
My bad. :guilty:
