One word - capitalism

They want money. Casual players aren't seeking the same level of challenge as more hardcore players like you might find here on these forums.

Who really cares? They were stupid enough to not make the licenses a requirement for certain cars / race types and honestly I havent even attempted any of them ONCE because why the hell should I?

Like that is one thing that really pissed me off about this game. You should HAVE to complete bronze on every one to race certain races. Would bring a lot more play time into the game.

Not really. I've played to a GT5, just like it should've been played. 1st license, then mix of a-spec and special events and licenses after i've reached a level to do the rest of those.
It took me less than 50 hours to gold most of those. Drop golds and it'll probably be 30 hours, because some stuff are hard to gold with DS3 (thanks again Yamauchi-san for making a normal controls for the less than 20% of GT players, a.k.a. people who are playing with a wheel ).
So yeah, 30 hours game and then you left with bob-spec, endurances, exp grinding and online if you want to play with rams and (or) idiots.

As for dumbed down licenses... Who really cares, all hardcore fans already bought it and probably done with the game, except online and car collecting or completely stopped playing. Of course PD will try to get even more money from casuals' pockets now.
Besides, it's not possible to make a game even worse and easier, than it is now, may as well remove disqualification from the special events as well.

Also this
What is it with PD and GT5, there seem to be so few difficult challenges left ? Ironically the hardest event in GT5 - Vettel, really has no place in a GT game - it would be more suited to Wipeout Fury.
is very true. There's no challenging races at all. 1st 2 seasonal events were like that, but those events were dumbed as well.

I for one am glad they got rid of disqualifications for bumps. I would say 90% of the time I was disqualified was for the stupid AI BUMPING ME!!
This.

They did right in adjusting DQ, but I guess they went too far.

Meh, I don't think that this will make a big difference to the "coveted" "All Golds Medal", the biggest difficulties are always in the "Take this corner exactly perfect" tests.

Totally agree with this.
It's not like PD increased the gold times by .5 seconds or something.

If there's luck involved, it's not a test of skill. Period.
I wrote you should consider it lucky, not that it was so.

And YOU have missed the point that, even when it is NOT YOUR FAULT, and the 'on-rails' AI hit you instead, you got a DSQ. I imagine that THAT was what PD were responding to.
No. If the AI hits you then you should not have been there. I seem to remember that getting gold involved either no or the briefest of contact with the AI cars. Hitting and being hit by other cars actually slows you down, unless you are using them as mobile walls, extra brakes etc - I do not think the AI ever gave me a wrong dsq. I used to think so and then realised what was happening, eg hitting them slightly, even on a main straight, when you are trying to force your way through and contact in the braking zone, are areas where you taking an advantage. Some of the antics people do that make them say 'why was I dsq ?' would actually get them thrown out of the race IRL. PD did ok first time around.

I think you are right, but casual gamers want arcade racers not SIMs - so is this the beginning of the end of SIM racers as it is too niche a market ? Early sales figures reported on GTP seem to suggest that maybe PD should have stayed true to their roots and now by dumbing down PD are in danger of losing their core customers.

Time to update my sig and make it more appropriate.

It's obvious that PD don't know how to give players a challenge anymore without it being frustratingly hard or making it ridiculously easy. They just can't find a good medium so they're taking the safe route.

this is pointless... you have to reach a time or 1 point of the course... for exampel: trail mountain... you MUST draft the corvette @ the tunnel... if you dont reach the corvett in tunnel you dont able to get first

for me the S lizens was the easiest...

No matter, the License tests were s*** easy anyways :)

struggle with IB -3:ouch: ok tried not really.. less time cuz of work... working on saturday 14-22 o´clock is nice...👎

I golded the first 4 licences easily enough when I first got the game last year, now that they've made it even easier I might gold the last 2 aswell just for the sake of it. I think PD are just gonna mindlessly tweak the heck out of this game every update, they did introduce some good things but I reckon we can expect more random changes.

:indiff:

But since it frequently was, that is okay.

No. If the AI hits you then you should not have been there.
Have you ever actually done one of the licence tests with AI? Because I honestly can't believe you did if you are saying silly things like this.

I was DQ'ed from IC-10 at least 3 times because I was on the outside line of the sweeping left just past the Coliseum on the first lap and the AI drove right into me.
Not me being anywhere I shouldn't have been. Not me using the AI as a moving wall. Me being in the outside line roughly neck and neck with the AI halfway through the turn going similar speeds, and the AI drove right into my door trying to pass the AI driver in front of him.

There's no challenge ANYWHERE in this game except for driving Tuscany in a 🤬'd up LP640 with no headlights in the dark.

And online, where, due to the whiner generation there's no way to use License level or A-Spec level to winnow out the ten-year-olds (or those that drive like them).

I don't get it, I really don't. GT5 is the world's best selling car title, and all others are flamed for being 'arcade', but it's the EASIEST to cheat, exploit and wherever it wasn't, PD crumble to pressure and make it so it CAN. Shift's AI was MUCH harder to beat, and there wasn't a litany of complaints that it should be nerfed so that a six-year old with a gamepad could beat it in his sleep. Why were 'arcade' players so willing to accept a challenge, and 'sim' GT5 users so unwilling?

Time for PD to grow a pair. They already sold 6M copies of this game. They made their money. And then some. Time to turn this game BACK into a challenge, not make it even EASIER. All the ten-year-olds that are going to buy this game already made Mommy and Daddy get it for them. And are duping and A-Spec auto grinding until they go blind!

Who CARES if a couple of ten-year-olds can't get every License, anyway?

Apparently, PD... :yuck::grumpy:

AMEN!

It isnt going to happen tho, PD can't keep everyone happy. It would be nice if they left the game play alone and only provided more content, features and tweaks to the game UI.

I do not think this has been discussed as yet; but PD have, it seems, removed disqualification for hitting the AI cars in the license tests. After seeing my son getting away with some outrageous moves I loaded up IC-10 and quite literally bulldozed my way up to third place before the back straight on the first lap and got away with it. Try as I might, I could not get a disqualification from ramming an AI car.

Whatever happened to the imagination and dare I say it, commitment, from PD that gave us proper GT challenges in previous versions; GT4 Mission 34 was the pinnacle but there were other missions, license tests and even races that helped us hone our skills and made us raise our game .

Dumbed down AI, races, Seasonal Events and now licences. Very sad.

I think you are forgetting, not considering, or just plain ignoring the fact that PD is monitoring what the players are doing in GT5. Just because you are blowing through the game, it doesn't mean that everyone else is.

Prior to the update, I had completed 30 license tests with all golds. Out of the 50 people on my friends list that play this game, only one other person was able to match what I did, and he has all golds. That tells me that not many people have the drive or perhaps the skill required to do the tests perfect.

Things look different when not viewed through selfish glasses!!

Things look different when not viewed through selfish glasses!!
Not selfish at all, this is not about; I can do it and you cannot. It is about GT5 having challenges. There were 3 tough missions in GT4, did I ever moan about the difficulty ? Never. Because they were genuine GT challenges.

If GT is to become an easy game then I am far from being only person who will be dissatisfied.

As much as I hated the continual grind of doing the same test over and over again, be it GT1/2/3 or 4, or the driving missions from 4, there is very little in the video game world that delivered the hit of achievement at being able to get a gold on the event in question.

It was a challenge, and if I really couldn't do it, I couldn't do it, but I lived with it, and tried again another time.

Now if I can't do any of the challenges I'll just wait for PD to patch it until I can use the X2010 in every event in the game.

Don't think they won't. (Ok so maybe not that extreme, but after Seasonals 1 & 2 got 'tamed' I hold little hope for a 'hardcore' challenge out of this game.)

Oh and to the guy who said about the X2010 not having a place in the game and being more like Wipeout. You're wrong. It's not driving. Even Wipeout would have DQ'd you for using that car.

Why dumb down the licenses? It's not like you gain anything from having 60 golds? (Barring a few extra cars)

All PD have to do now is add a couple of tenths onto the 1.17 time for Grand Tour at Eiger and all of the challenges will be gone!

(Not counting the X1 challenge ... I think I'll change my signature regarding licenses though ...)

It comes down to statistics. PD and Sony are collecting every nuance that occurs in everyone's games. There is a very good chance that many people are starting to abandon the game because they just do not have the time to grind lap after lap after lap to finish it. I would put money that many tried the tests and special events, got what they got and never went back. PD and Sony probably still have DLC and other goodies up their sleeve (I hope) and need as many people still playing as possible to capitalize on the revenue. Right now Seasonal events are keeping people busy but eventually money will be involved. The hardcore fans are just not that important when it comes to money, they are a fraction of the 6 million buyers out their. Of course they will cry and say they will move on if the game gets too easy, move on to what? PD knows this. I love racing and I love GT5 and I put in quite a bit of time on this game so I would consider myself beginner hardcore and I hated the unfair DQs in the tests and special events. I am glad they eased them up a bit. Doesn't effect my feelings on the game or how I play it. Nothing beats me being able to load up my favorite car, jump on the Top Gear test track and try and beat my last times or the Stigs times. If your self worth is dictated by a fancy signature loaded with your GT 2, 3, 4 and 5 accomplishments, the test getting changed are the least of your worries.

Sad but true.. I think that gold should be a challenge and not everyone should be able to do them, like IRL not everyone is a winner.

A spec has no challenge to it and thats why I cant stand single player anymore. I play games to have fun and like it is now the only fun I get is hotlapping and online.

I set aside a week to come home from work and do the 10 license tests from each section every night, and all my hard work has pretty much been undone....

Thats a bummer but at least I can say that I earned it when you couldn't ram the opposition off the track!

Golded them all long ago (it is the license thread somewhere). On my gold run in IC-10 I did touch a car on the first right hander, but that was all, a touch, after that no contact at all, and if you watch gold runs on youtube quite a few are likewise. But many times the touch was too hard and I got DSQ, so I hit restart and tried again, and then found a line that stayed out of their way as much as I could.

I am not sure exactly where you mean (because I do not really notice the scenery when racing), but it could be that you took the AI cars line away from him, he had nowhere to go and although you think you are innocent that is not necessarily the case. Either way the test was to win and keep out of their way.

License gold was the one true standard, and now it's gone? If this is so, then I have another issue to add to my (growing) list. :grumpy:

This is just not acceptable. I'm looking at you PD, KY.

I just finished getting gold in every license test. I have to say, getting gold for S was super easy compared to when I tried it the first time. A lot of the tests that I got silver or bronze on I got gold on the first attempt after 1.06. But I was never bumping into opponent cars.

The AI seemed slower to me and yes, there were a few instances here or there where I felt I should've been DQ'd for bumping too hard. Back to my point though...I was in the lead in a lot of the races about halfway around and I was driving very cautiously as to avoid driving off the track or bumping. It seems to me that the re-working of the AI has made them even easier to get around.

Frankly I'm glad that I will no longer get DQ'ed for hitting the A.I. I'm sorry but there is nothing more vexing then being DQ'ed when the A.I. cuts me off.

I wasn't aware the new patch erased your achievements? Who cares if someone else can now do it easier, I just do not get it, the vettle challenge nearly killed me, now it is a walk in the park. Doesn't change the fact that I worked hard at it.

+1 on this. Though some will claim ALL contact is the fault of the player and not AI :banghead: But the rest of us understand that the AI is poorly programed and have no clue about racing Etiquette, race lines ect.... They run a scripted path until the human player gets near. Last time I checked, when lapping a car, it is Etiquette for the slower driver to yield, not in this game. They fight you every time you lap them. Or coming into the turn in front and the AI "forgets" to brake and DQs me when he is the one that hit me. The old test were all about continuous grinding until you got lucky and last time I checked luck does not equal skill.

It's a real shame. Those license test were some of the most fun challenges. I also don't like it that PD starts making things too easy. They appear to have a real issue with finding the right balance.

It might not be about who can and who cannot to you, but I guarantee it is to PD. The ultra-elite-sim only market is a niche group only. Niche gaming does not make the money required to survive in today's markets.

Making a small but vocal group happy when it comes to GT5 should be and obviously is a priority (as evident with the recent patch), but I am afraid that the small percentage of elite players is going to have to come to grips with the fact that the casual market is the now dominant force in the industry.

I am not disagreeing with you on how GT should remain difficult, but what good is a challenge if only 1% of the community can complete? That's not going to grow your business, for it's going to severely limit it.

I remember those challenges. They were tough as nails. Congrats.

I am afraid the 'self-esteem' generation have forever changed the definition of a 'game'...

One of these days they will have to grow up, and realize, in the REAL world, that 'average' means exactly that. Half the people are under it, and half are over it (or someone is screwing up the bell curve bigtime!). But when test scores are lowered, so more people 'pass', when EVERYBODY is 'above average', your achievement (if you actually MAKE an achievement) is worthless.

Personally, letting the poor buggers drift through childhood enveloped in a warm, rosy glow of unearned self-esteem only sets them up even WORSE for when real life comes crushing down on them. Listen up, kiddos... If EVERYBODY gets an 'achievement', it ain't worth squat.

There's a REASON that Licenses, Special Events and even regular races have bronze, silver and gold. That's so you can get a sense of achievement even if you don't come in first, an achievement that you actually EARNED. But when the game is nerfed (or your school lowers the requirements for a 'pass') to the point where EVERYBODY gets gold, what it is demonstrating is how 'average' you are. And how that builds anyone's self-esteem beats the heck out of me..

There were a few Special Events and License Tests I couldn't Gold. And I am NOT going to go back and re-do them now they have been made easier. I would feel that I had made NO achievement, and was just getting a Pity Trophy.

GT5... The Ultimate Special Olympics Simulator
