PD have dumbed down the license tests post 1.06

I am afraid the 'self-esteem' generation have forever changed the definition of a 'game'...

One of these days they will have to grow up, and realize, in the REAL world, that 'average' means exactly that. Half the people are under it, and half are over it (or someone is screwing up the bell curve bigtime!). But when test scores are lowered, so more people 'pass', when EVERYBODY is 'above average', your achievement (if you actually MAKE an achievement) is worthless.

Personally, letting the poor buggers drift through childhood enveloped in a warm, rosy glow of unearned self-esteem only sets them up even WORSE for when real life comes crushing down on them. Listen up, kiddos... If EVERYBODY gets an 'achievement', it ain't worth squat.

There's a REASON that Licenses, Special Events and even regular races have bronze, silver and gold. That's so you can get a sense of achievement even if you don't come in first, an achievement that you actually EARNED. But when the game is nerfed (or your school lowers the requirements for a 'pass') to the point where EVERYBODY gets gold, what it is demonstrating is how 'average' you are. And how that builds anyone's self-esteem beats the heck out of me..

There were a few Special Events and License Tests I couldn't Gold. And I am NOT going to go back and re-do them now they have been made easier. I would feel that I had made NO achievement, and was just getting a Pity Trophy.

Wow, I think you are giving GT5 accomplishments a little too much worth. Accomplishing something in GT5 is not all that important and the only people that actually care are the "elitists" that actually think accomplishing something in GT5 is important. Sorry but a majority of these "tests" were not about skill, it was about spending day in and day out grinding and hope to get lucky, something people with lives are not willing to do. What is really happening is not players so overwhelmed with their inability to accomplish some of the harder tasks in GT5 that they are forced to cry the blues to get the game changed so they can hold their head up high in society but instead people gave it a whirl, accomplished what they are going too and have stopped playing the game. PD needs these people back into the driver seat so they will spend money on DLC which is assumed coming soon. So in closing, accomplishing in GT5 is not really that important. Making money for PD is. Having all your GT5 "accomplishments" in your signature does not make you a better citizen. Put them on your resume and see how far it gets you.

Wow... epic fail. Notice any achievements in MY sig? But that would involve READING, and it is so (sob) hard...! Can't someone read it for me? :dunce:

Just curious, but do you have ANY other games where there are no achievements at all that can't be done in your sleep? Why has GT5 (as opposed to GT5p, GT4, GT3 etc.) got to be nerfed so you can do it in your sleep?

You going to go through your whole life calling anybody that can do something you can't 'elitist'?

Congratulations... you're the BEST! A #1, top of your class, valedictorian!

As long as nobody makes you DO anything, who can argue with that?

Feelings hurt? Seems I touched a nerve. Pretty sad you put so much emotion in your video games. You may need to get outside more often.

Well, I guess that's where parenting comes in. I, as a father of two sons make sure that video games don't influence their self esteem.

If they ever get to the point of depending on a video game to be there sole source of self worth, I have failed as a father.

If there is any blame to placed on a specific group for the downfall of gaming, look no further then the one's that do nothing but over analyze a game all day.:)

I guess when someone has no other accomplishments in life, video game accomplishments are all they have and must hold on to them very tightly or they will have nothing. Essentially the OP and a few others only have GT5 to keep them going day in and day out and it now kills them they are losing that.

Instead of facilitating them, they should make them even harder for next time...
If kids want everything gold is not our problem...

Again I think people are confusing grinding and luck with skill. The test and events are nothing but repetition and luck, not skill. This is not fun for most people and PD can not make money on the minority.

It might not be about who can and who cannot to you, but I guarantee it is to PD. The ultra-elite-sim only market is a niche group only. Niche gaming does not make the money required to survive in today's markets.

Making a small but vocal group happy when it comes to GT5 should be and obviously is a priority (as evident with the recent patch), but I am afraid that the small percentage of elite players is going to have to come to grips with the fact that the casual market is the now dominant force in the industry.

I am not disagreeing with you on how GT should remain difficult, but what good is a challenge if only 1% of the community can complete? That's not going to grow your business, for it's going to severely limit it.

I remember those challenges. They were tough as nails. Congrats.

+1:tup:

You've hit the nail on the head, it's all about sales and making the majority happy. Make a game too difficult and people will just walk away from it, which mean there won't be any further sequels.

So, has your parenting skills involved going to your kids' schools and demanding that test scores be returned to sixties levels?

You might want to check your OWN comprehension skills as well, before you grab completely the wrong end of the stick.

My problem with the situation in the game is that it is a reflection of what is going on in society, not something isolated, alone.

You MIGHT also notice that I posted about NOT going back to get Golds for things that have been made easier. But once again, guess that involves reading

Oh, and, congratulations for the logic fail of complaining that someone is wasting their time worrying about a game, ON A GAME FORUM. Mind you, I suppose you have persuaded yourself that YOUR time spent here (and on the game) is legitimate, but only OTHERS are wasting their lives. :sly:

Nice...

+1, +1. I have to agree with both of you here. I think the only reason I keep reading threads like this one is due to the pure entertainment factor watching people get flaming pissed about a game getting nerfed.

Or the entertainment factor in flaming someone that, deep in your heart, you know actually has a point. :sly:

i got all golds except for the last 4(cause im lazy lol) before the patch now i can do the last ones in a few tries w00t.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I simply couldn't agree more.

I was wondering why I could get away with smashing racers so hard on IA-10. But luckily that was the last race I needed to get gold on. I needed 2 of the proper IA ones, and been as they are Time Trials, I don't think PD have done anything to make them easier. I was effin' chuffed when I got gold on that bloody Toscana trial

And YOU have missed the point that, even when it is NOT YOUR FAULT, and the 'on-rails' AI hit you instead, you got a DSQ. I imagine that THAT was what PD were responding to.

The AI is preprogrammed. They do the same thing lap after lap. Case in point: The Rome test with the Ferrari 512 (I think, its an old one) 2 lapper. First bend the white lambo jumps from right to left. Just after the red lambo sets up and jumps from left to right (almost into your drive line). Down the back stretch before the dog leg, the Muria will jump out about at the 300 meter mark and then he will alway pinch the corner.

The AI blows. No disagreement there. But if you know what they are going to do (as I did because that doggone test took me a while to gold). Its lazy programming to have a "set" line. Now their effort to make the AI more "aggressive" is to make the car move to the exact middle of the course as you approach. Again, a lazy solution.

I golded all my S class and anything to do with actually racing or catching up. I had been working on golding the rest a little bit at a time. I was at 41/60 prior to the update and have not done any license' since the update.

The GT series is my favourite clutch of games because they're difficult, if the dumbed down license tests turns out to be true, well......what's the point?

i know what you mean, i buy them for the battle of the race and difficulty it sames to have all gone now. only the online is the hard part with some good races.

I understand that PD are working on a new game... GT Tic-tac-toe.

But, due to fears that it will be too hard to win all the time, you are allowed to make TWO X's on the first move.

Must be very difficult for you to step down off your high horse to communicate with us pee-ons, for that sir I thank you (sarcasm). 👎 I guess your personal vendetta against society starts with GT5.

If you can't see the logic fail in trolling a thread where you have nothing to say, other than everybody ELSE is wasting their time saying something, your kids' education is the LEAST of your worries. :dunce:

Considering a minority agree with the OP and the majority do not, not sure who is trolling. But disagreeing with someone is not trolling. The word is often used to quickly when nothing else can be thought of to say. I love when people say "everybody". If 2 or 3 equals everybody then so be it. As far as I can tell, you and the OP are the only ones in agreement. Everbody, :) I guess in your mind, you = everyone because no one else matters.

As per my above post, I also agree with the OP.

Listen. I paid $100 for this game, and $300 for the console. I FULLY expect more than this for my money. PERIOD. It's not whining, and I assure you I have plenty in my life besides GT, but like I said that is not the point. GT4 took a very long time to finish, and it had actual challenges. Excuse me, but I think expecting GT5 to at least be equivalent in terms of game completion time, and level of challenge is entirely reasonable. I did not expect a game geared for ten-year-olds. If I knew about this ahead of time, I would have rented a console for two weeks, finished the game, and moved on, and the $400 I could have spent at the tuner on my Legacy GT.

The license exams prior to the nerf were the ONLY challenge in the game. And at that, really there were only 3 or 4 that were truly difficult to gold.

I'm glad they changed it. I thought it was pretty dumb to get disqualified for accidentally scraping a wall or getting bumped by the AI drivers.

PD removed the DQ for getting hit by the AI in the license tests? AWESOME!! 👍👍👍 Not a perfect fix but those DQs for getting hit by the pre-scripted AI were so annoying. Thank you PD! :)

I still have problems with some of the License Tests, but the S-License tests were all goldable, without aids... Not first go, like some have done, in my case some of them after MANY tries, but I never felt the need to give up on them.

That 8c around Eiger, OTOH...

Golding those S-Levels after try after try (and yes, being hit by the AI sometimes!) were by FAR the most satisfying achievement in the entire game. I am SO glad to have had the opportunity to do them before they were made easier.

As I said before, my heart goes out to ADULTS buying this game now for the first time. So much of what has made this game a challenge (the S-Licenses, the early Seasonals) has been removed. It might even be worth advising them to NOT log in online and update to 1.06 until AFTER they do the License Tests.

If they want a challenge, that is... 💡

What?? They are essentially grading on a curve now??? I really, REALLY miss the old GT games. I remember how many times it took to get first in that race at Suzuka in GT5P. <--- That was fun. I miss the setup of the races from GT2, every race had a horsepower limit. I think they had a tire limit too? Its been awhile i dont remember.

I am starting to realize just how FEW playing GT5 ever played GT4.

No-one that loved GT4 could ever accept GT5 being made EASIER.

Could there?

There are times when not having your age in your sig is a detriment. I am convinced there's a pretty sharp delineation in age between those that just want to WIN everything with no challenge, and those that want a good GAME. :sly:

I think the main problem with GT5 is the lack of a difficulty level from the start. Nearly every game has one and allows both the casual and hardcore enjoyment and a challenge. You don't see COD being dumb down because some can't beat the hardest difficult and it doesn't effect sales either.

I would like to see a patch that allows restrictions be set on or off, or even a restriction level to the a-spec mode. This would give a good reason for most to redo the a-spec.

PD just can't make up their mind if the game should be hard or not...

Yeah... it's so annoying that some races are very easy, some are quite hard. But it's not that you begin with the easy races and then the races slowly become harder... it's just messed up. One race is hard, you should drive a fully tuned car to win it, the next race you can do with a non-tuned Civic. :odd:

I for one am glad they got rid of disqualifications for bumps. I would say 90% of the time I was disqualified was for the stupid AI BUMPING ME!!

👍

I think it's not possible for PD to do that, but wouldn't it be the best way to just disqualify you when you ram another car and not another car rams you? But I think the game can't "see" who bumps who.

They weren't really that hard in the first place. Certainly not the S-License tests, they were a piece of cake compared to the single flying lap challenges of previous games.

I totally agree, I only got Bronze in all licenses (I did them to get experience with the new driving feeling and was too lazy to make them gold later :p ), except in the S-License. There I got everything gold (okay, Tokyo R246 is only silver... :grumpy: ), and it felt way easier than the other license tests.

Maybe it has also good aspects playing offline without any patches installed...

The easiest way to solve all the debate in this and many other threads: Difficulty levels.
Just two would be enough, *Normal* and *Hardcore No-Lifer* (I'm in the latter part:)). Let kiddies who've "paid the same money than you and deserve to see all the content", make it easy, and the rest of us weirdos battle it out.

Conserning this thread, I can't imagine just removing the bump DQs is that big a deal. It's a lazy solution to poor AI - or lack of any - but the difficulty/annoyance-ratio is tweaked to the right direction.

I sympathise Destinkey's thoughts otherwise. I've only played GT4 before this - 100% completion and all golds - but I consider myself a fan of the series. Forcing us challenge-seekers to over-easiness thus depriving us of any sense of accomplishment is unfair.
