Do You Think a Livery Editor Should be in GT5?

I was just thinking about this today. While I don't believe a full on livery editor is needed (but I have no objections to one), it would be nice if they had predone, simple liveries like the RM's with windshield banners, a few sponsors, maybe a graphic, and the windshield decals, at least for the Premium cars. This way only one model needs done per car, rather than adding a whole new element to the game. Making skins for the car models requires a lot less time and resources than a whole new game element.

I said no only because like any team, PD has limited resources. This feature is not important to me personally, so personally I would prefer they spent their resources developing other features. This is merely a matter of priorities to me, and a livery editor is not one of my top priorities. I would hope that it eventually makes it's way into the GT series though.
I agree, but there's at least 5 things in GT5 that imo, should have been on hold for the livery editor to take priority over.
Particularly those that have nothing to do with driving yourself (b-spec) and those that have nothing to do with your car. (dress-up drivers)

While I disagree with you over the suits, I do agree with you on B-Spec, a livery editor could have nicely filled the slot beside of A-Spec on the GT Life screen.

That blows my mind.
I don't understand how anyone would rather have driving suits over car customization.:boggled:

For me it's racing action first, car customization/personalization second, graphics third. Nothing else matters to me. (aside from the obvious car/track selection)

Imagine all the problems of an open livery editor. PD would have to hire a new team of people to handle people who have been reported in game.

No no no, that's not what I meant, I like the suits, but I'll gladly take a livery editor over it. :)

Sort of like what Treyarch does with the reported Black Ops emblems? Like TenaciousD and I have said countless times:

only 140 people. just one company operating on the game. imagine how much stress and (obviously) time it takes to develop stuff. PD needs more companies to help speed things up, or at least hire MOAR PEOPLE!

So? People have been saying since before GT5 even came out that more PD should have hired more people, and them moving to the bigger offices only strengthened that resolve.

Yes, I want one. It's not an extravagance, it's a neccesarry part of racing. The single-color paint schemes, lacking even numbers, are one of the most unrealistic things remaining in the game.

one word to sum up why gt5 needs more car customization options.

DISTINCTION.

I would like to, but only limited to sponsor decals and some racing stripes. Not like the one from NFS street racing or Forza. Where you can create offensive or inappropriate pictures. I would hate to tailgate someone with P@!## on the back.. It's very distracting IMO.

Or when you get attacked by others in forza because your car looks dumb since it does not have any sexual organ references in it's livery.

Those are my peers, that's for sure. Gotta love them, they know how to have fun.

I can't believe people do that. It's pointless.

It is mostly immature people 13-17 I'd say. But that is the games' largest consumer base also so yea it is very annoying.

Bit younger than me.

But I agree. More likely that it's still younger than 17 though. We started "growing up" around that age. I just can't stand the way their high pitched voices sound, getting higher and higher, LOUDER AND LOUDER when you tell them to shut their traps. I don't play halo anymore.

I know this is a bit off topic, but GT5 cost SONY somewhere around $80 million by the summer of 2010, and it still wasn't done. And while the research was undoubtedly costly, most of that $80 million was eaten up by employee payroll and benefits, which is basic economics 101.

Now with GT5 selling around 6 million units in just a couple of months, SONY should be able to open up the purse a bit and allow some additional hiring at PD. 12 modelers can crank out a Premium car in about two weeks, 24 can render a Prem track in a month or less. Here's hoping that Kaz found some good candidates already.

I guess it needs to be repeated a lot. It seems that too many people are "hard of seeing." ;)

If PD spent time on making a robust livery editor, they wouldn't have to spend time making different liveries for racing cars. Just a thought.

I mis-voted! I re-read the thread title and noticed it says GT5! In that case, I'd say no. I rather they save it for GT6.

I think PD would actually miss of getting to make liveries for their RM/GT models. In the past, we'd have lots of original, PD-designed racecars ranging from the FTO, S2000, RX-7, etc. They even had a race series for it (Dream Car Championship). I don't think they'll stop doing it, and we're going to continue to see their RM/GT models.

Disregarding the obvious logistics PD has/does not have at there disposal.

I was expecting 'some' sort of car customisation in GT5... RM's may have been enough if applied to all premium models.
PC sims have had much more advanced livery editors for years now and manage quite well. These all for full image/file import from PC's and photoshop.

If anything with consoles controlled online environments it should be much easier to police user made content.

Since getting Forza 4 (I know I know, its the first Xbox game I've ever owned) I have spent roughly 1/3 of my time 'painting' my cars - mostly because its a pain to use though!

So I voted YES, I want to be able to personalise my own cars.

A livery editor like in Forza is the only thing I really miss (since 2.0), so "heck yes!".

But do you guys really want it for GT5? I think there's little chance of that happening, but I can definitely see it in GT6. I mean I hope so.

If there was a livery editor, it would only be for Premium cars.

Do I want it? Of course! Do I think it will happen? Of course not.

It should be in, it isn't and it probably won't be but since GT5 seems to be a sort of testing ground for different ideas anyway they could perhaps try some sort of limited livery editor consisting of pre-made, or randomly generated (since they seem to love that stuff) templates to colour in using paintchips and a selection of brand-decals, etc.
Although if it turns out to work quite nicely, chances are it will be thoroughly redesigned for GT6, just like B-Spec worked fine in GT4...
It would be nice to have a personalized RM racecar without huge GT-logos for a change.

If it could be controlled yes, otherwise we will be flooded with images of penis' and boobs just like Call of Duty: Black Ops got with their emblems.

No interested, I suck at drawing so have no interest and I also don't want to see thousands of cars with a penis livery online

I would rarely if ever use a livery editor, so no.

A livery editor limited to strictly road premium cars and only with:

CAR NUMBERS
RACING STRIPES
COUNTRY FLAGS
MANUFACTURE LOGOS
GT5 and PS3 LOGOS

Job done ;)

I want a livery editor, but there is more important things than it.

Either some people only read the last post in a thread these days, or reading comprehension is dying on this planet.

Do I want one...No

Do I think GT should have one....Yes, but only if they give me the option to disable them.

I really don't mind people having the option of using a livery editor, just dont expect me to want to view its creations
