Why do you want standards to stay?

If you aren't using in car view, then it hardly matters if a car is standard or not (while racing anyway). It is still primarily a driving simulator after all.

Exactly . Ok I don`t want to race in imaginery cartonboxes ,but the quality of the Standards are acceptable for a simulation. Maybe it`s my age I dont know , I am used to crappy graphics :D

Great , It was just about time for another daily GTPs "standard" cars pool

Why , oh why :banghead:

I made some changes to your statement :)

Yet you still read it & posted?

Not much different from all those dissapointed GTP members ,who despite they don't play game since December ,still find time to post daily whinning and complaints. :)

I drive cockpit view most of the time, except the VGT cars. So I don't use the standards myself. StilI want to keep them so the AI can use them.

A filter in the dealership would be nice.

Simple answer is, why should they go? Don't give me the 'more room on disk for other cars' reason either.
Simple answer - I'm shelling out hundreds of dollars to move up to the latest generation of consoles and I expect the best graphics simulation possible. If I wanted PS2 graphics in a game I'd take out the PS2 and play. If I wanted PS3 graphics I'd take out the PS3. I would not even consider buying any other game if it had as in integral part of the "career", trekking through worlds or playing fields or with characters unchanged from the PS2 era. I don't know of any other gaming franchise that is even considering doing something like this and I believe that ultimately this decision will be villified in the game press and rightfully so.

Thing is, if GT was an all around great game like it should be with up to date career modes, AI and features, couple that with better gameplay and sounds and a lot of complaints would go away. GT7 could have 100 cars and still be a great game, the belief that GT must have hundreds upon hundreds of cars is what it's keeping the series from being better in the first place.

They already spend a ridiculous amount of time modeling and people are still asking for more.

These people honestly are better off playing the older games because they just can't let go and Kaz being the biggest one of them, having a lot of dinasours as your fanbase isn't going to help.

Lets get this straight...

1- i dont want GT to lose the amount of cars...
2- PD should and shall convert all the current standard cars into Premiums
3- if and ONLY if they are short on time to convert the remaining standard cars, they should continue to keep those until they can finish and complete the conversion.
4- but i dont want them to keep standard just becaus they want to keep the count...

I know some of you will say that point 4 goes in contradiction with point 1, but what i mean by it is that i want PD to keep the standard cars with the intention and the effort in converting them... and i believe that is what they are doing.

Proof is the Veyron is now a premium.

Logically, PD should be done with the convertion task by the time GT7 is complete, otherwise we WILL continue to have standard cars until GT8

But their (PD) priority should be :
- GPs import map/circuit import
- Much Better sound
- addition of new and old tracks
...
- @ least as far as gT6 is concerned.

I don't care if there's standard cars in GT7. As long they have better sounds Kazunori promised and better physics.

I don't mean to single you guys out specifically, but I do think it's ironic that some people are totally fine with 800 PS2-quality cars, and yet take serious issue with awful engine sounds. The way I see it, both shortcomings are practically the same. They're both aspects of the driving experience that are supplementary to gameplay, in that you can still have a realistic simulation without accurate visuals or sound. However, both go a long way towards creating a believable, immersive environment and a more faithful representation of real racing. I don't understand how anyone could be for the improvement of one and not the other.

I drive a standard car in real life, so for me, they help with immersion. I've only ever driven a couple of premiums (in real life)

What sort of car do you own/drive OP?

You talk about immersion so I believe when you refer to premium quality you think about cockpit view.
Before I was always crying about the absence of cockpit for standards, and the absence of realistic vibrations and hands/wheel movement inside premium cars.
I gave up. Kaz doesn't care about these things. But I also realized that I don't care about cockpit view anymore because it actually made me slower. I couldn't see some part of the tracks, so I was more cautious and I couldn't push the car to the limit (it's not a coincidence that bumper cam is the most used for hot-lapping). With these games I'll never feel visual immersion in cockpit view simply because everything is stretched, compressed in front of my eyes, on the tv screen.
We should use Oculus Rift for visual immersion.
Graphics doesn't really matter much to me. Neither does cockpit view since you can never properly replicate 3D POV on a 2D screen anyway.
Yep!

Anyway, I'm concentrated on the road, not on what's around (well...in front of me, on the tv screen).
However, I can't ignore the sound and it pumps me even more when it's glorious. That's why it's a priority for me.

If you mean the details and quality of standards body, for me it's a secondary aspect because I'll see them only in replays and photomode pictures.

I LOVE all kinds of cars, so the more the merrier. Graphics doesn't really matter much to me. Neither does cockpit view since you can never properly replicate 3D POV on a 2D screen anyway. I grew up in the PS1 days so a few pixellated lines here and there doesn't matter as long as the physics are good.

I'm not saying that PD should keep standards just for the sake of it. I'd like to see ALL of them converted to premium eventually (except for exact duplicates), but since that's gonna take a while having standards in the game is the lesser of two evils compared to removing them. We already lost enough great cars from GT1/2 - NSX GT2 LM, Dodge Copperhead, Vector W8, Venturi Atlantique, Cultus Pikes Peak, Espace F1, Esprit GT1....the list goes on and on.

Cars. Tracks. Physics. That's all I need.

You are living a fantasy if you actually believe #2. Since they started creating GT5 about 10 years ago until the launch of GT6, they released about 400 unique new premium cars. In 10 years. Converting 800 standards to full premiums will not happen.

@hardvibes Yeah, part of it is the lack of cockpit view. But truthfully I only use cockpit view when racing against the AI because it makes me slower as well. Still, it's my favorite and most enjoyable way to drive. Exterior detail is key too, and although I'm not always driving from the chase cam or with an opponent car directly in my sights, when those things do happen the quality differential sticks out like a sore thumb. As someone who loves cars, I appreciate when they look as beautiful as they possibly can. From the way you talk about sound and I talk about graphics, that's why I believe the issues are very similar. We just prioritize different aspects of the experience.

@LeGeNd-1 As someone who also frequents the GT2 forums, you bring up a great point. My favorite cars in the series are long, long gone. The NSX GT2, Copperhead, Espace F1, Elise GT1...to that list I'd add the Ford GT90, Altezza LM, Skyline Silhouette, S2000 GT1, and the Momo MR2 GT300. I haven't had the opportunity to drive these cars in a new Gran Turismo in over ten years, and there isn't a single standard car that I would take in their place. But eventually, for the sake of advancement and the progress of game design, we have all got to let go eventually.

I don't care what PD does with standard cars they could be painted pink with cussing clowns on them and I would still not ever care. If they fix even HALF of their other, far more important problems than a few ugly cars in the background of the game, which you are never forced into even using, I will be VERY happy, and will completely forget the standards are even there, as I would imagine 99% of GTP would as well.

Because the existence of this thread and all the others on this topic are clearly evidence that 99% of GTP doesn't care.

Certain there are a few Races you have to use standards just sayin though. Like the truck race that's been around since GT4 yeah certain those trucks aren't premium.

I just think it is funny every time someone refers to standards as PS2 quality cars. If you load up GT4 on the PS2 and the GT6 on the PS3 and compare the cars the standards look much better in GT6 than they did in GT4. Yes they are not at the same level as the newer GT5/6 cars but they are better than anything on a PS2.

I usually drive bumper view or hood/roof view most times you can't even tell if the car you are driving is standard or premium and I have never noticed an AI car and said to myself wow that looks like PS2 quality on that car.

One of the reasons the PS3 struggles so much and it takes so long for a game to come out now is all these people who insist on having the best possible graphics on every thing. Makes me wonder why any of them ever bothered with a PS2 at all, I mean after all the PC was way beyond anything a PS2 could do all through the lifetime of the PS2.

To those who think standard cars are uglier than sin, I ask what gaming system or generation was available when you first got into gaming? Kaz is 47 years old. When he was a teenager, the only games available were Pong and the original Donkey Kong. I'm pretty sure he doesn't think standards look that bad.

Why should something like that matter? I got into gaming with the PS2, but that doesn't mean I think the standards are A-Okay in their current enviornment.

It's not about tradition, but about evolution and PD are getting there at an unfavorable pace.

Because if you want any model of MR2 in the game standards have to stay.

PD don't have time to remodel so many cars so moving to premium only would mean we lose so many fun cars.

No wonder you don't think standards look okay. Your first system was the PS2. That's pretty recent. Anyone who grew up with an 8 or 16-bit system most likely doesn't care that standards don't look as good as premiums. We older gamers are used to "poor" graphics.

To each their own in that aspect. I'm just not a fan of the ridiculous quality difference between standards and premiums. I mean Gran Turismo 2 is my favorite GT of all time, but the graphics have aged like milk. Still enjoy playing it for all it was worth.

That's an excellent way to look at things; just stick to the standards of the time you were a kid. Don't let that pesky "progress" thing get in the way.

Still ignoring that Standards lag behind in more than just graphics, too.

They didn't start on the Premiums as we know it until after GT:HD. That skews your figure, as does the 200 Premiums between GT5 and GT6. Cherry picking figures for emotional effect; you should go into politics! :D (Oh, wait, that's what this is.)

OK, so we've got visual modifications (graphics, mostly), and interior view (more graphics), and ... ?

Well things like livery editor and extensive modifications won't be possible on standards, will they? Unless they're planning to make two: one for premium and one for standards.
