Mr P510
Well,to be honest I'm relieved theres no online play. Why? Because we would be waiting alot longer than Dec for a release if PD perseviered with this mode and now the've decided to leave it out it looks like we'll se it this Christmas. Cooool.

👍
oh my god you're right, it's not like they had what... 4 years to add network code right?
the fact of the matter is online is more important than photo mode. (if you think differently please make sure to explain why.)
YM never proritized online from the interviews i've read in the past, and now we can see the results of that, i guess that if i want to play with 6 other people i won't be able to do it more than 2 times a year (wich is how often my friends have TIME to take a whole day off at the same time and we're able to get 6 ps2's, 6 GT's and a home owner bearing to deal with the trouble.
online isn't about superior multiplayer capability, it will ALWAYS be inferior for racing games because ping affects racing games more than any other type of game, what online would've been about is convenience and competition, i got like 1 real life friend that is really good for GT3, evryone else is just avarage, in online i'd be able to play people that match and surpass my level. (that is assuming PD would take the time to get some rankings going so i wouln't have to play newbies all the time).
there are a lot of things the PD team could've done for players with high network latency, disabling "true" online racing would be one, players with high latency could race against streaming ghosts (instead of sending synched info back and froward), streaming ghosts would mean a smooth gameplay experience even for laggy players, and while you wouldn't be able to crash into a ghost, the sight of one of them overpassing you would still have an effect on you (or vice versa).
all a mode like this requires is various check point updates to have a nearly real time streaming ghost all the time, and then once the replay would play you could have a 100% lag free replay, how cool is that? apparently. PD either didn't think of something like this as an option, or they are just so anal about such a mode they'd rather not have us play online at all...
then there's the "real" online racing mode, wich only players with very low latency could connect to.
if you guys think adding those two networking modes takes years of development, allow me to be the one to tell you it's not the case, adding such basic network funtionality wouln't take much of their time.
but now that they've announced an "online version", it better damn be a LOT more than basic funtionality, it better include part trading, car trading, tourney capability, class restriction championships (along with unrestricted and modified modes). and even a ladder, and they better have good replay support (hell, they better have replays in GT4 as it is in multiplayer, i still don't understand why GT3 didn't have them!).
think i'm asking for too much? i'm actually asking for too little, because who the hell is going to pay for GT4 again if all it does extra is online capability with NOTHING new?.
and i'm not even asking for more tracks and cars for that online game, just good online support. but again, it's all unrealistic thinking, they will not make enough money from a game like that, they'd make more money from PSP, so that's where their priorities will be, and once the PS3 Dev. Kit arrives to their instalations, you can forget about them spending resources on a game that's not going to be nearly as lucrative as bringing GT5 would, and they'll get those online features ready for GT5 instead (that is if Mr. YM thinks online is important by the year 2008)
