Because other racers that are as good as and even better than games like GT3 are online, games like GTR and Forza will now have a big edge over GT4, however we all need to remeber GT is still going online next year.
yeah, and we all need to remember that even if it does get released(wich is highly doubtful), we are faced with these issues:
-You have spent 30 bucks on Prologue, 60 Bucks in GT4, and will have to spend again, 40-60 bucks just to get online funcionality.
-You won't find nearly as many players as you would've if it was included in the original GT4 to begin with.
-People that got "sold" with the idea of network play and went out and bought a network adapter just for that game suddenly made a useless investment (this is a lot more people than you think). same goes for Driving Force PRO users (i bought this one myself... it's a good thing it also works on the PC, or there go 150 down the drain, but for people that don't use it on the PC... we'll, i'm sorry for them)
The fact is it's very irresponsable to taut online functions and then take them out at the last minute, they had 4 years to implement a robust feature set, but they just didn't care for online play enough to do it.
KY's main concern was that the lag would "ruin the GT experience", because of the "jumpy, laggy cars".
this is a legitimate concern, but a PS10 can come out and we're still gonna be faced with the limiting factor: the speed of light, nothing can change that.
there are alternatives for people that would have lagg issues, a lot of games use those alternatives and they work flawlessly, KY either didn't have the vision to see those features (doubtful, you can check some of my older threads to see how alternative modes would work if you're intrested at all), or he thinks that if he can't get the "true" mode then he'd rather have us not play the game at all, i think that's for the players to decide, all he had to do is warn users of the potential problems before entering a network game.
so ok.. so he doesn't have an online mode yet, and decided that he'll release a new version with online features (wich by the way, they better be a LOT of features if they plan to sell the same game again just for that).
ok.. cool, so they will release a game (again, this is not even confirmed, chances are we won't ever see it, be realistic.) with lots of online features.. if they're going to do that, why don't they just include a very basic online mode for GT4? i know the network code is done, they've said it themselves. they could just include a basic mode and warn people of how limited it is and that it's only included so that players have an option, but that they don't recomend using it (hell, it could even be a hidden option if they REALLY didn't want the avarage joe touching it).
so lets see:
30 bucks for prologue, 50-60 for GT4, 150 for a DFP (this is of course optional, but i know a lot of people that bought this JUST so they could play online, myself included!), 50 bucks for a network adapter just for GT4 (most people that bought this adapter for GT4 won't ever play any other game trough it). This last one people got because online play was confirmed, so it was supposed to be a sure thing.. and now.. a final 60 bucks to make those things worth it (Gt4 online, assuming it wlil ever get released).
why do i think it will probably never be released? easy, because such game didn't exist a few weeks from today (i'd go as far as saying a WEEK from today!)
If they were serious about such game they would've actually given people some details on it, specially important ones like this:
Is it an add on?
is it the full game just with online as a bonus?
How much will it cost either way?
what are some of the features?
why do i think it's important that they at least gave us such details? because that way people would be able to see if they want to wait for that version, or just go get it in december (if it's an addon, people would get it in december, if it was a full game, people like me would just wait it out).
there are a number of reasons they didn't give any of the details.
some could be:
-They don't even know themselves, because they just thought of it.
-They know, but they won't say so they won't hurt sales in december (assuming it was a full game.
-the game is just an idea, if GT4 sells well, they might not even release it at all (this is why the announcement is not official.), and in that case, they'll just go ahead and finish the PSP version instead, and then when the new developer kits for the PS3 arrive they'll get working on that instead (this is a VERY realistic posiblity, because of the time it will take to develop a game for that, should be more than any previous GT.)
In the nd, GT4 might end up being the most expensive game ever for online GT fans, and they might not even get it.
