The hood vents are functional as well as everything else on the car, I was getting too much heat on the track and they should help. I respect your opinions, but the car is still a work in progress and I am not doing a two tone, the hood and trunk are going to be painted the color of the rest of the car. Believe it or not I am making this thing a track car.

Again, it's your car. It might look better when it's finished. As it is now, it just doesn't look appealing when it's intended purpose is a family hauler (yours with a V8 no less).

It will and honestly I was just curious as to why people on this site seem to not like it since I have had much different opinions elsewhere. Also, that is kind of why I am doing everything to it. It is something unconventional and something no one has really done before. Something about beating sports cars in a built up family sedan just feels great to me. :lol:
 
Not to mention that in-progress cars tend to look ugly if the owner isn't careful about maintaining exterior appearance.

Which is why I only want to change wheels on my car and then focus on performance upgrades.
 
I will post up new pictures of the GTO soon. It now has Magnaflow full exhaust which is quite sneaky being true dual 2.5" out the driver's side. Once I get it looking more presentable I will start that build thread.

I respect your opinion, but why does it have to be? I mean yes, stock it's a complete luxury car, but what's wrong with making it something different?

As said on Top Gear: It's like giving an elephant sports shoes. (Or something like that- it came from the Bentley Continental SuperSport video/episode.)

It might do somewhat than before, but it wasn't made to be something different from it's origins. Granted, it's a bit hypocritical for me to say such a thing when my GS can be subjected to something similar- and have by others. Maybe it's a German automaker thing. You probably can get away doing the same things with a Japanese car, but not so much with a German car.

I don't know. The main thing is that mid-sized or full-sized luxury sedans aren't the first choice when you want to track it... and there's reasons for it.

I don't see what's wrong with what I am doing though. It's been working pretty well so far since it does keep up with things like WRX STI's and Focus ST's on the track. I don't think I should base what I want to make this car on what the factory meant this car to be. They have even raced it in the past:

Just FYI, somewhere buried in this thread is my riced out S3, and my A3 was even worse... to everybody's gusto...

If you like your car, good for you, and it's all that should count

My points I don't like...

- That gen of the A6 already looked sad. Your front lights make that so much worse. (My Upgrade : OEM Bi-xenons)
- Your canards are not well put, both on esthetic and function ( too much space between, too much in front). Also as there is enough weight in the front, one does not really need more downforce
- Rear lights. (Again OEM would be much better suited, there are even OEM LEd ones if I remember correctly)
- Your license plate. Why put it there and not where it was intended, it breaks the lines of the bumper)
- Duck tail. (Again the boot from the S6/RS6 had a bootlip, which looks really nice. This is madness ;) :lol: )
- Exaust pipes sticking out too far

What I can live with:

- Black roof (though that white is splendid, and I wouldn't have done it)
- Winter wheels

As for racing the car, you only have one way, strip it completely to get that weight down. It's not really that intended for it. But that is your choice, there are much worse choices for a track car...

Because Audi already did that for you by making the S6.

But, I do respect the idea, I'm a sucker for a track car that shouldn't be a track car. I have to agree with @Ibonibo though. Your intentions are good, I just think they weren't executed properly. If you want to make it into a proper track car, definitely strip the interior. Weight saving is just as good as performance upgrades, and something as heavy as an A6 would definitely benefit from a diet.

I can't find any info that the US got the C5 S6. We didn't get the RS version of it either.
*Edit: I did find a few for sale, but they're rather high mileage surpassing 100k miles and they're all Avants.

It can be better as a sleeper car than a track car. Do you intend on driving it often or just on occasion? Keep that in mind as you get older.
 
To drag things to a bit of a lighter topic, I've decided on my first set of parts for my 3.

  1. Corksport Short Ram Intake
  2. Corksport Cold Air Box
  3. 16" MSW Type 28 (matte dark gray)
The two performance pieces are $310 together and the wheels are almost 500 for one set. Should be able to drop the airbox and filter in myself.

What I'm looking at here is a purposely built racing car. What I'm looking at when I see your car is a moderately modified road car. The race car has stripped out interior, roll cage, only one (very likely FIA homologated) racing seat with (also very likely FIA homologated) racing harness. It is also made to fit in the performance requirements of its racing class. What I've understood about your car is that so far it has, aside from few exceptions, such as brakes and coilovers, mainly been modified with parts that affect the visual side of the car, for instance I'm fairly sure that unless the car has an overheating issue (I doubt it does) you could have gotten a bonnet without the vents and I'm not sure about the amount performance boost the canards give at the level the rest of the car is. Even if these parts make the car slightly faster, you probably could have left these further down the line until the car is fast enough to benefit from those parts. There are other reasons why I don't particularly like your car as well. For example, I don't find the white colour that appealing and other modifications, mainly the headlights and the wheels (not the winter ones), appear as purely visual choices, neither of which I'd personally make. Together these modification make the car look slightly tacky to my eyes. But, of course, this is just my opinion.

As others have already said the idea itself isn't the worst I've heard though. I can certainly see why someone would turn an average everyday car into a club level racing car. That said I'd personally make the car look as stock as possible if it's only used for track days (or the equivalent), or at least keep it somewhat looking like the car you started with if it's used in a more specific racing series.

Because it just doesn't look at all that tasteful. To me at least.

It just looks like a plethora of madness when I see it, and those headlights kinda make it look like a sad fish a bit.
This is one of those cars where you have to be kinda careful on what you choose to put on the car and when I see it...
...it just looks really thrown up all together without any given thought about it.

That's an RS6. This is an A6 we're talking about, two different things despite being the same type of model. The RS6 is a hardcore sports sedan, whereas the A6 is just a practical family cruiser.

I briefly considered this when I first got my 3 but it seemed there wasn't much to gain other than noise without getting into custom ECU mapping and other much more expensive upgrades.

Well, I only need a bit of extra power to improve my mileage. It's +5 HP on the 2.0 engine and about +7 ft-lbs of torque.

I think I might be selling it actually. I've been considering selling it for a while now but I just wanted to see this whole track car thing through but now I just seem to be trying too hard to make the car something it is not. I already have people that have been wanting to buy it for a while now so selling it won't be an issue. I think I'm just going to end up getting a 2004 S4 and go from there.
 
Might not though, after talking to my dad, I think I am just going to finish what I started with the A6 and work with the s3 later. Especially when the S4 is about the same weight as the A6. So as much as you guys hate what I am doing, I am going to continue to make that car a track car. @Team THRT Drift I really do not see the big deal either of making a luxury touring car a track car either. I should be getting some Toyo R88's this spring for it so grip won't be an issue.

Do you intend on daily driving the A6? Because once you go track car, it's a very difficult road to turn away from.

It is already a track car technically. And yes the S3 still is a lease.
 
So it's not technically mine (title not in my name) but, when my parents were getting a new car after my brother hit a deer with our old blue focus I figuratively stamped my foot down and said "We're getting a Fiesta." Somehow, that's what we ended up with, my mother was considering a new-ish civic, but I wasn't having any of it. We already have a grey 06 TDI Jetta and I didn't want us having 2 plain Jane boring commuter cars so I made as much noise as possible about the Fiesta. Funny thing, even my parents call it my car because I drive it the most, so I'll keep saying it's mine until they say otherwise.

A few years ago some might remember a familiar MrMelancholy/ITCC_Andrew who had very passionate plans to turn his 2.5RS automatic wagon into a hardcore track car, similar to yourself.
