In real life I've driven I4's and I6's. I like the 6 for the power but the quick revving of my I4 is what I prefer.

In GT5 I love the sound of the rotary engine. It's beautiful.

The V12 screamers are sweet, but the V8's sound great across all the RPM range.

Any engine that can rev to 10k RPM or above, gotta love that screeching sound!

Something close to what this guy said, but revving atleast to 7500 or higher.
I like the I-6 IRL, so balanced and smooth. To bad they are falling to the wayside.

I really like the I6, especially the one used in the E46 M3.

If I had to choose one from the poll though, then it would definitely be the V10. The scream it produces is just phenomenal.

One would have though people interested in cars would know the difference between.
Engine Size (Displacement)
Engine Configuration (V6 V8 etc)

My prefered engine size (Displacement) 3Litre or less
My prefered engine (Configuration) V8 in a Ferrari if you will :)

Can you put an option as "I don't know anything about engines" please? lol

Where's the W16? For me anything above 8 cylinders will get the job done. I4s aren't bad either if they're 4WD. (Lancer Evo)

I6 > *

Perfect harmonic balance, lots of bearing surface area, mechanically simpler than most V designs. Total win.

No inline 6 in the poll? My vote goes to inline 6, either turbo or naturally aspirated :sly:.

Your kidding right?

My vote is I6 for many reasons. But, I picked V8 since those are the options.

Mine is another vote for I6. They might be too long for transverse mounting, and some designer might not like the need for a long hood with them, but as a reliable source of smooth power, they are a great choice.

Just out of a matter of interest i wonder what percentage of the V8's selected were chosen by Americans? that engine size is a religion over there and rightly so

4.6L and up v-8 with a 1:1 stroke and bore ratio. Good low pitched sound, strong torque curve and not too expensive to produce.

Instead of numbers, it's the application and execution that matters most to me. I can't, for example, imagine a 911 with a V10 engine. Their flat six is the reason why their race cars has always been at the forefront of enduro races. At the same time a Lamborghini with a V6 robs away everything that make it unique especially the deep growling of their V12 engine.

V10: R8, Viper, M5, Gallardo, Sesto Elemento, Bristol Fighter, Carrera GT, LFA, do i need to say any more?

Wiesmann GT MF5, although it had the exact same V10 engine used in the BMW E60 M5. Wiesmann have since decided to swap that engine for the V8 Bi-Turbo found in the F10 M5 though.
