That would be the Assetto Corsa that has not yet even come out with an AC2, and has gradually fixed issues a lot faster than SMS took. Took SMS six months just to make Livetrack2 work online. The last bugfix list from SMS read like War and Peace! And still as many to go.

This might be a better question to ask when (if) AC2 comes out. Seems like their E-sports upcoming title is going to be PC only for quite a while.
While correct its not the point I was making.

AC has still not reached parity with the PC version on consoles and development on it has stopped, yet that is exactly what was promised at launch.

The length of the patch notes I have already covered, its not unusual at all for PC titles to have ones of that length, regardless of title.

If you held PD to the same standard that you seem to be holding AC, the litany list of promises broken would dwarf AC's. :sly:

Every game's developers bite off more than they can chew. TBH, PC2's list of stuff they never could bring to the PS4 is long, and some of it is quite important (50 tunes total is a major issue on a game with 180 cars and 80+ tracks). SMS merely took the sensible step of not promising it! But the end result is the same.

I think that anyone that buys a game based on pre-release promises is not following the 'caveat emptor' advice. And, to be quite honest, expecting a console game to be identical to its PC cousin is unrealistic and always has been (for complex releases).

To start, adding the custom offline championships.

But for this feature, why waiting for PC3 and not adding to PC2 making it more complete?

How about an option to shorten rallycross rounds in the career mode, like opting for a shorter calendar in a championship? I can't be the only person who enjoys the rallycross cars, tracks, and action, but finds it a bit tiresome to race on each track six times in a row. The format is justified in real life; not so much for playing against AI in a videogame.

What I would like seeing in Project CARS 3 (and generally the series as it goes on):
•More cars, generally more of the wierd and wonderful/more obscure cars. Also small, lightweight old sports cars like:
-Toyota AE86
-Mazda MX5 NA
-Mazda MX5 ND Cup
-Mazda RX7 FD
-Mazda RX7 IMSA
-Mazda 787b (why isn't this in PC2 already I don't know lmao)
-Subaru 22b
-Subaru Impreza Type RA
-Chevrolet Impala Touring Car/Stock Car
-Chevrolet Chevelle SS
-Volvo 850R
-Volvo S60 V8 Supercar
-Brabham BT46b
-Chaparral 2J
-McLaren M8D
You get the idea
•More tracks; not that we have a shortage of them, but I would like to see some more, including:
-Paul Ricard
-Magny Cours
-Tsukuba
-50's LeMans
-Schudcshleife (or however it's pronounced/written, would make an interesting addition alongside the Nords if they could model it somehow)
-Sebring
-Red Bull Ring Classic (Osterrecshring or something was it called?)
-Fugi Speedway Classic
-Twin Ring Motegi
-Albert Park
-Adelaide Street Circuit
-The other Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road Course
-Pocono
-Bristol Motor Speedway
-Macau
-Martinsville (because chaos is needed)
-Talladega
-Some more original street/road courses. Really love Bannochbrae, California Highway, and Azure Circuit. Maybe a Stelvio/ Transfagarassan/ Mount Akina/Mount Akagi pass next?
•More (stupid/less mainstream) racing disciplines like:
-V8 Utes
-Aussie Touring Cars
-Touge
-Hillclimb
-Drift
-Time Attack
-Banger Racing
-Also, MOAR TOURING CARS lol
•Features:
PC2 isn't anywhere near lacking in this department, but it does have a few points that need improving, like adding Offline Custom Championships, unscripted Career Mode, and unlocking all the career mode tiers permanently after you reach Tier 1. Sucks going back to Tier 4 for some fun only to find out Tier 1 is locked again.
Oh, and the ability to save more than 50 tunes. That would be nice as well.
Also I would like to suggest the ability to create your own racing team. Buy cars, maintain/fix the damage on each of them, win prize money, etc. all while driving for your own team. Add to that a (close) interpretation of the Shift 2 upgrade system with the Works System, and you could build your own team with your own cars for each series. Or you could just choose to play as you did in PC1/PC2. Who wouldn't love that as a choice?

Okay, sorry this turned into a bit of a wishlist... xD

It doesn't really make sense how they did this anyway, because there's nothing to lose by skipping your way through a season in a series you've already completed just to open that tier. Nothing in your way but waiting on loading screens and clicking through the menu.

1 - Ability to buy cars like GT and Forza

Sorry but its pretty boring having all the cars unlock from the start :( And plus being able to buy the P1 GTR makes me feel more like i really own the virtual version of my most beloved car.

2 - Livery Editor - I know dead cow :banghead: i meant dead horse

The other two have it so why not project cars.

:)

To be brutally honest, I think SMS needs to get themselves a games development veteran on board, maybe from the pool of experienced UK racing game devs, to show them a thing or two about gameplay design. PCARS2 is an impressive simulator, but the gameplay around that sim engine is pretty sad.

No. No no no. Being able to drive whatever I want, whenever and wherever I want, is a fundamental feature. I love the fact that any unlocking is restricted to career only.

Not fussed either way about a livery editor either, would be nice I guess but not something that I can get excited about.

Visuals - You mentioned that they don't look as good as GT Sport quite yet. Well, maybe focus on improving the lighting for the next installment. Lighting can make a difference in a game's appearance. Part of why GT Sport and the previous 2 GTs looked so fantastic was due to their lighting system.

Tracks - Continue what was done in current one; I love the track selection in PC2. I hope more classic racing circuits get added in the next installment. I would love to try Nurburgring Sudschleife and Greenwood Roadway for instance.

Cars - Aside from the obvious adding more cars and more car manufactures. I would personally just like to see you guys continue expanding on race classes such as your Group 4 class and GT4 class. I personally would like to see some new racing classes added such as 1990s BTCC and GT2 LMs (I.E. Dodge Viper GTS-R, Porsche 911 GT2).

EDIT: I forgot to talk about what tracks I would love to see.

All I ask is that they remove the chicane from classic monza full course. Or at least give us the option to run with or without it.

Also to include my classic figure of 8 track pack that I put together in the (create you own dlc thread) that would be nice to :)

Regarding the invitationals and manufacturer events I would love to see all of them have an option for practice and qualifying. Also some of them being a championship instead of all one round races would be an improvement.

In the career some improvement towards the team / constructor feeling, perhaps teams could offer you a certain path to a certain max tier. Something like if you finish in the top 5 of GT4 you can advance to GT3. Unlocking series and invitationals not only winning but also by finishing in the top.

They should try three things with Project Cars 3:

First is making the game without major bugs. I know it's hard, but they fix the bugs after release anyway, which takes time and money anyway, so why not do it in the beta?

Second thing is creating official championships, with leagues. It should look like in football, first league, second, relegations and promotions, seasons etc.

Third thing is making the game easily moddable. And I don't mean new cars, but new features and mechanics. Look at a game like Cities: Skylines - probably most of it's success comes from a huge number of great mods in Steam workshop, and these are not only cosmetic items, but mods that change or improve mechanics of the game. I'm sure features like practicing a selected section of a track in a loop, or some really sophisticated physics tweaks and improvements would get made by community sooner than later. And maybe later than sooner, but I can definitely see someone making, for example, a really good package for oval racing that's really close to real life, or even things like improved pit stop animations if modding API allows it.

To start, adding the custom offline championships.

But for this feature, why waiting for PC3 and not adding to PC2 making it more complete?

Fully agree. An offline custom championship is the missing feature in this game. It was already planned for PC1 and it's really disappointing not to see it in PC2. This would have been a strong argument to seduce the players.
It would also be nice if SMS looks at the Touring as a neglected discipline I find.
A license of V8 supercars would be great
The Brazilian stockcar is also a discipline that I would like to see in PC2.
Finally, yellow flags rules, cautions, would be a huge plus for the game.

I think migration to PC3 from GTS and Forza would be a lot higher if there were a lot more low power roadcars in the Road classes.

They are pretty low in numbers, and wildly different in pace, so damn near unusable for racing unless a one make.

6 cars in Road G, varying from a 120hp Escort to a 440hp F-150! How can you race those? You basically pick the Mustang or the F150, or struggle at the back.
4 cars in Road F (3 if you didn't get the Civic DLC) from 256hp-306hp.
8 cars in Road E (7 if no Porsche DLC) from 340hp-525hp and some of these can be handfuls on the stock tires.
6 cars in Road E, and we are starting to get into some even trickier cars to control..!

PC2's massive increase in difficulty of control over GTS/F7 might not be so daunting if there were a better balanced choice of low power road cars, and more to do with them. I find handling pretty easy even without a custom tune at the low end, enough that, if GTS/F7 migrants were locked out of the higher classes until at least a basic starter series in Road G class cars, they might not run back to the arcade games so quickly. Initial impressions matter a lot, and PC2 doesn't help itself out much allowing noobs access to all kinds of high power racecars that are quite drivable in arcade games but incredibly tough to control in a sim.

Keep them fully engaged and occupied driving a nice selection of low power cars together, let them slowly adapt to the increased skill needed to get up into the higher power cars, and let them do what they used to in GT6 etc., have fun driving low power road cars around without losing it all the time, and PC2's massively better track selection and time of day progression might make more converts than we are getting right now.

Hell, give them stickier tires (at this 'Beginner Level' only), soft slicks, whatever... The main thing is, keep them playing! PC2 will hook them, and hold them, and get them to persevere up the ladder. But allowing them to jump into a Formula car or a Can-Am or a Vintage F1 the day they try the game, and give them little selection at a level they CAN handle, it's a recipe for making sure they don't stay...

On paper, PC2 should be killing GTS/F7. But it's not. If PC3 wants a bigger slice of the GTS/F7 pie, they need to smooth the introductory path for those drivers.

I'm not in the business of wish lists.
I'm thinking about how 3 could possibly be improved.

The Madness engine is great, we have the tracks, cars, and content but what could be done or adjusted to really wake up those that may be on the fence?

Graphics.
They look very good on my vanilla PS4 but up against GT not great.

Weather.
Do you use it?
A vast majority of online races never have weather, the track surface is always almost certainly dry.
What if SMS scrubbed live track 3.0 and put those cores used to graphics?
Smooth it out and put the jaggy police to rest.

Pull back the reigns a little and focus in this order.
Physics
Appearance
Matchmaking
CRL/Penalties
Tracks
Cars

Your thoughts?

Maybe I am bit late to this topic but I have both PC2 and GT:S and combining these two games is what PC3 needs to do for me to have the perfect game.

I absolutely love PC2. The car selection and the track selection is head and shoulders above anything I have ever seen in a (console) game. I love the heavy focus on the classic cars from the '60 upwards. Even the classic Monza, Spa and Hockenheim circuits add soo much to that classic feeling for me....and yes we (our little group of friends) always race with changing weather and time passage enabled.

A few things do need a bit of attention for the third game. The points I am bringing up are with the next generation of consoles in mind as I am assuming we will not be getting a new game within two years so keep that in mind when reading them.

1. Graphics and frame rate.

I have a ps4 pro and the framerate is pretty steady and fluid for me, but there is a stark contrast with GT:S in overall smoothness and draw distance. I am assuming that this is because of optimisation and hardware limitations. So with the third game being developed with the Rizen cores in mind I think solid 60 fps will be the norm for many games onwards. If PC3 will look and run like GT:S now does I will be more than happy. Imagine that kind of detail and fluidity but with actual weather effects and track 3.0.

2. Tracks

Give us more and keep the old ones from PC and PC2 in there. The amount of tracks is THE absolute selling point for me. Since SMS has laser or drone scanned allmost all European circuits we could use some more exotic tracks like the Detroit street circuit (f1 1980's version), Adelaide street circuit, Albert Park, Interlagos, Villeneuve circuit, Suzuka, Shanghai GP circuit. We also have a few beautiful European circuits we still need. Circuits like Hungaro ring, Zandvoort and Magny-cours to name a few.

3. Cars.

I am not a fan of street or road cars so my opinion might differ a bit to other folks but I can do without a Enzo Ferrari or a Bugatti V for example. For me the selection of race cars can be expanded upon and the ommision of classic cars like the Mazda 787b, Ford GT40, Nissan r92cp and the Dodge Viper LM race car to name a few really baffled me. But the inclusion of the Panoz Esperante absolutely blew my mind and made me really happy.

4. FIA and old and current championships

I think SMS needs to focus a bit on trying to get more FIA licenced championships which they can create online events and competitions around. The Indy licence was great but it is hard to market to an worldwide audience. Firstly I think many gamers don't know the Indy Car series that well and let's be honest the learning curve might be bit to high to draw in entry level players. GT:S did a pretty smart thing with their online approach.

SMS can do the same because there still are a few untapped FIA products that would be perfect for new and experienced players. There is the DTM, GT3, GTE and WEC for example. Design the current and old cars and tracks used in this series and make them a SP experience and MP championship as well.

5. Community options.

One thing GT:S does pretty well and PC2 doesn't is keeping the community alive by giving them creative and sharing options. Give PC3 a livery editor for your cars, helmets and racing outfit. Also give us more options to watch and edit replays and being on the topic make the file size a lot smaller. GT:S lets you save and share complete races and the file is only a few MB's big. PC2 cuts of the replay after 20 mins and those 20 min use a lot and I mean a lot of HDD space.

In short I like the focus on the track selection and the tracks and cars only need a new lick of paint to be brought over to the third game because everything is laser scanned and ready to go. SMS needs to keep scanning more tracks and cars for the third game to expand on what they allready have and also need to focus on getting a few current FIA licenced championships (with the appropriate tracks and cars). If this proves to expensive SmS needs to acquire older FIA championships. Lastly the community options need to be expanded upon. A custom livery editor and better sharing and editing tools.....ow and we need the Mazda 787b and the Ford GT40

We use weather in our league racing.
Cars
Handling
Accurate sounds
Tracks
Graphics are way down on my list, in my opinion gt legends kicks the crap out of most racing games and look how old it is. In fact the replay options it has are still not equaled. And the sounds, the engine sounds are bang On. I had surround sound and I could tell where and how close a car was just by that.
My wish list for p3 would be a Mclaren m20 can am car to compete against the 917/10

Yes

Why should sms remove the amazing weather system pcars has now? I would think the ps5 would be more them capable of handling pcars 3 and all the great features it'll have.

Personally i rather pcars 2 have ps1 graphics then to lose the amazing weather system aka live track 3.0 :)

I'll personally be surprised if there's a PC3 to be honest and I certainly wont be going near it until people have found for themselves how its running.

If they do go ahead with it and personally I think SMS has lost a lot of the goodwill they built up with PC1 then they should just perfect what they started with PC2 and fix the online side - the lobby system is/was (I haven't bothered with it for a good 6 months now) basically stuck in the 90's.

Have online daily races ala GT Sport. Make default lobbies tuned to make hosts less likely to start a room that's full of rammers or they largely go unpunished and leave the race then join another race and do the same thing.

More tracks, cars and disciplines would be nice but given SMS's track history we'll be waiting about a 6 months to a year before its stable enough to enjoy and by that point all you are left with is leagues that run specific times (which a lot of people cant/dont want to be involved with as it means signing up for websites etc) and public lobbies (that only show 20 races max?!) with about 10 cars in 2 of the 20 available lobbies, the rest are single people hosting on their own and whne you join a 'full' lobby, being smashed off in the first corner ruining your race as full damage is on.

Sorry if this sounds like a rant but for the many things Project Cars 2 does well it gets the soft fluffy things totally wrong.

That was bearable and understandable in the first one but I think given the state Pcars 2 came out then that goodwill has been lost for me.

I really enjoy PC2 and I think it is the best racing game I have ever played. I hear what you say about rammers and that kind of people. But we always race with full damage on and I wouldn't want it any other way. This is the reason we always play with a closed lobby. I don't want "bombers" in my race.

I am very curious when we will get some info on pc3.

Assuming a possible PC3 comes to the next generation consoles I think they should just add some cars and tracks, possibly some official licenses and of course as many as possible. Besides that I would love to see the AI on the same or nearly the same handling model as us. In some circumstances or corners the difference is just too big. But in general I think they should just improve the basics of PC2; create an online system as GT Sport and add custom championships for the mainly offline drivers.

Assuming all of this is at least 2 or 3 years away it seems vital to keep PC2 alive with perhaps an additional season pass and an occasional update.

And not for me, and possibly many of us here, making the game a bit more accessible for new players some easy road cars and perhaps something like the missions or something like that. The track learning part would be a useful addition to all of us I think.

In the seven months since this thread was created I've moved to PC, with that my original opinions have changed.
While I never thought PC2 console performance was bad, it is obvious and realistic to say it is restrained by hardware.
It is still the same game and I have no doubt SMS did great console optimization, but the benchmarks on my rig now have really turned it loose.

Consistently getting 100fps makes live track 3.0 how I imagined it, fantastic. No more stutter while raining, smooth wet/dry/day/night transitions.

My OP is no longer relevant.

I am a bit perplexed at the news of SMS focusing on a mobile racing game however.

Good to hear that the pc version is above and beyond to the PS4. This gives me hope for when the PS5 version will be released.

The trouble with keeping optimistic about a PS5 game is, SMS develop the game on a PC platform, and then port. The pace of PC and graphics card development outstrips consoles by a good generation or two. So, basically, by the time the PS5 comes out, SMS will have developed a next gen PCARS game for PC and graphics card capabilities that even a PS5 won't have. It's a game of catchup... And consoles will never catch up.

Now, if SMS were to develop on console and then port to PC, we'd stand a chance. There's a slim chance that the PS5 might match a contemporary mid-pack graphics card, which would mean that SMS could sit back for a while graphically, and concentrate on getting gameplay, online and physics and handling totally bug-free (which the franchise needs to do badly for better acceptance), work harder on pad handling, and totally redesign the lobby system.

And yeah... A boatload of new cars and tracks!

There comes a time when graphics is 'good enough'. On PC, that time is now. 'Good enough' combined with bug-free operation, well designed gameplay (custom championships seems to be a long overdue feature) and better matchmaking still makes for a great game. Which the PS5 could run well.

But far better graphics (far better than the PS5 will be able to cope with) crippled by today's level of buggy gameplay and half-baked lobby systems that do not port to console well will simply be more of the same we suffer under. If SMS want console sales and console players' money, stop fobbing us off with a port that is obviously PC-centric.

That's exactly what I thought when playing Grand Prix 2.

I took GP2 for a spin last night, still a great sim along with GTR2.

I love the old Simbin games and often still race them. It's really cool to fire up GTR2 to hear the original Project Cars 2 soundtrack.

Good idea actually. I need to try it again, too. And I guess even my laptop should run it without problems.
