My advice would be to not jump around from car to car too quickly. Pick your favourite type of car and try it on multiple tracks, and get used to the tuning and tweaking of the car and the FFB. Figure out what's happening with the physics and then move along to other cars. Every type of car feels really different and takes time to get used to.

Noted, is there an explaination for the HUD and how to manage tyre temp?

Yeah need to get my head around tuning as well, any ideas about which car to start with Johnny?

Tire temperatures are affected by various factors as in real life. They'll be hotter in Dubai than at Watkins Glen for example. More camber generally means more heat. Closing brake openings keeps them hotter. Tracks with longer straights keep the tires cooler. Basically anything that affects tires in real life will affect it in the game to varying degrees. Also in TT mode, tires start off at either 90C or 100C whereas in free run they will start cold on many cars. If you take a car to TT mode you can see how quickly it sheds heat in the tires and maintains temperatures after just a lap or two, whereas if you start cold in Free Run it will take 3 or 4 laps to get up to temperature. Tire temps are key to grip and fast lap times and the car will handle dramatically differently on cold vs. warm tires and ideal vs. too hot/cold temps.

The car is a personal choice, and I don't know why but I chose the Ariel Atom Supercharged to start. It's open cockpit, responsive, it has power on and lift off oversteer, responds well to tuning and it's not so fast that my reaction times dramatically affect my performance. It also comes off the assembly line without ABS or TC. IMO I wouldn't start off with anything too fast or too grippy but that's just me. If you wanted to jump into a race car that's well balanced right out of the box I'd recommened the McLaren 12C GT3.
 
Wow, I just went into the menu after playing PCARS, and my Playstation's fans are blaring loud! Sorry to be sort of OT taking about the PlayStation, but is it normal to have the Ps4 noticeably loud when playing Project CARS?

In other news, had my first proper wet race. I have realised that I'm atrociously bad in the wet and need to check that out! Was getting lapped within a lap!

Yeah I think it may have been because I was driving in the rain as well.

Going back to me being atrociously bad in the rain, I'm now wondering if I even had wet tyres on lol. I'm going to start a race in the wet and see what happens.

Edit: yepp, I must have still been on slicks. Raced in full wet race there and it was easily manageable, not sliding on each bloody turn haha.

So at my job I do a lot of walking, and I have to say pcars has sort of ruined my ability to correctly detect social norms. While walking behind a slow walker down the north straight of the factory, I went in for an overtake just before the turn. I must have underestimated all 4'10" of her cuz she took the inside line around the 130° left hander. After backing off, I went back in for the pass on the inside of the matching right hander and overtook that old bat!! I was proud! Then I realized I was at work.

I feel I'm missing a lot here, just had a practice session with an Escort and during the out lap the tyres were very cold but the AI was blowing past me, and I'm having issues with the brakes locking up in almost every car.

Factory stewards have ruled the old bat illegally changed her walking line twice. She'll have to do a walk-thru Human Resources.

I wouldn't be concerned with AI passing during out lap. I assume they have warmer tyres. And it's an out lap during practice session.

So... I fired up the game last night. Around 11:30pm I thought, just one more event... mistake. It was Le Mans in an LMP2 car. Practice, Qualifying and 30 laps later, with a couple of breaks it was 2:20am... doh! Managed a best of 3:56.3. The LMP2 in this game sounds a lot better than the one in GT6 and feels a lot more planted.

IME pushing shopping trolleys/carts around supermarket aisles is a great place to practice one's racing line.

I've been having the same problem with my brakes. It's getting better each day, so just stick with it and don't be tempted to put on ABS! It's just a learning process and soon you'll be able to feel how hard you can push the pedal.

As for the outlaps, yeah, the AI don't experience cold tyres.

Try reducing the brake pressure. I took 10% off each car i kept locking up with and that really helped. Always start with brake pressure and dial it in from there.

Apart from the McLaren F1. We really need to be able to increase the brakes on that car to 150% :lol:

Mods are one of the advantages of pc gaming. Mods are hit and miss though in terms of visual quality, physics and functionality and updates are usually rather slow.
