I haven't suggested any road cars because to me this game is about the race cars or race versions of road cars and I am pretty sure they will have added in some of the latest hyper cars and track day cars. It would definitely improve the game if the road cars were available with a set of liveries with race numbers on - at the moment if I choose to race in a road car - it's like being in a track day, not a race because the cars have no numbers.

I've tried to suggest as few cars as possible, focussing first on expanding the number of cars in specific classes which currently only have a small number as this has been a common complaint amongst players. I've also tried to ensure that any suggestions are significantly different from cars currently in the game whether from configuration and sound or shape. I assumed that the game developers are constrained by licensing issues and looked for some work rounds to the problem. Finally I looked at the race record, number produced (likelihood of different liveries), longevity of use and the historical significance of any suggestions.

I am assuming that for license reasons PC2 is restricted to classic Lotus and also cannot have any direct Formula One competitors to the Lotus 49 and 72. The 1970 Lotus 70 Formula 5000 / Formula A would be ideal to compete with both those cars, the 5 litre V8 having a deep bass rumble to contrast nicely with the scream of the 3 litre cars. F5000 and F1 used to race together in non-championship races such as the Brands hatch "Race of Champions" and the premier domestic championships of the USA, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa used to run to F5000 rules.

Lotus 70 F5000 Slide 6.jpg

Above - red number 4 is chassis 1 of 9 and was raced in period by Mario Andretti and tested by Emerson Fittipaldi. Engine was fuel injected Boss 302 Ford (currently on carbs). Number 12 raced by Wintersteen in 1975 with injected 5 litre Chevrolet.

For me the most successful car in PC1 in terms of driving feel on default settings for car and wheel is the Group A BMW E30 M3. There are only 3 cars currently in the Group A category. I thought long and hard about possible competition from the period - by the end of their development the Sierra Cosworth and BMW M3 were dominant, filling virtually all the grid slots. But what about the Holden Commodore 5.0 V8 which raced in the BTCC and the ETCC also the Nissan GTS-R which raced in the ETCC and Australia against the Sierra?

Group A Slide 4.jpg

The addition of these two cars would add some variety to the current Group A field in terms of shape, size, sound and configuration.

The Aston Martin DBR1/300 is one of the most enjoyable cars in PC1 - not too fast, but with interesting and challenging road manners - in fact I love it so much that I am currently running a championship for it, but the problem is that it is just one car. I looked at the entry lists and results for Le Mans and came up with this two class field to go with the Aston. Note - I have tried to select cars as rivals which combine longevity of use with different looks and characteristics so among the four fastest cars in the group we have three engine configurations - straight 6, straight 8 and V12 and three braking systems - discs (Jaguar and Aston), drums (Ferrari) and drums with air (Mercedes used a large air brake to shed speed before applying their drums, which would look spectacular in the game). We also have radically different looks with the Jaguar having an asymmetrically mounted sharks fin behind the driver, the Mercedes having a large airbrake and an offset air intake, the Ferrari having a pontoon style front and four megaphone tipped exhausts exiting the rear.

1960s Le Mans Slide 4.jpg

Above - The Cunningham Team won the GT category in 1960 with the number 3 Rochester fuel injected 4.6 litre Corvette - amazingly because of the low value of race cars in those days, after the race the cars were shipped back to the USA stripped of race parts and sold as low mileage second hand road cars.

Group 5 - currently we have just two "turbo monsters" - I propose adding the Group 5 Lancia Beta Monte Carlo.

I also propose adding the Ford Capri, BMW Batmobile, De Tomaso Pantera and Porsche 911 Carrera RSR - the new multi-class option in PC2 should enable these cars to race together with the Group 5 cars and Group 4 car (BMW M1). The BMW Batmobile would be added in Group 5 spec and the Capri in its top (Cologne) spec with 470bhp 3.4 litre V6 Ford Cosworth GAA engine with the Pantera being in Group 4 (wide arch) spec. The Chevrolet Corvette C3 L88 7 litre would also be added as this was a fixture at Le Mans for many years in a range of great liveries from the red of Scuderia Flipinetti to the stars and stripes of the Greenwood Team. Finally in this group - the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 which enjoyed longevity and great success at Le Mans coming 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th overall in 1972.

Le Mans 1970s Slide 7.jpg

Above - this selection gives players the option of Porsche 917 v its natural competitor the Ferrari 512 in the S5.0 class (plus also the option of the Lola T70 MK3B) OR Matra v Ferrari in the 3 litre prototype class.

The Sauber C9 is on its own in PC1 so would be joined by the Jaguar XJR9.

The Lotus 40 is in a class of one on PC1 - designed before the Group 7 sports car rules were drafted for Can Am and European Interserie so I have suggested that it be partnered with its main competitors from 1965. NB the 40 was probably the worst of these cars - works driver Richie Ginther describing it as like the Lotus 30, but with 10 more mistakes!

I presume that licensing issues relating to "Can Am" are avoided by selecting cars from 1965 before the Canadian American Challenge Series was formed.

Pre Can Am Slide 2.jpg

Above Lola T70 Spyders - John Surtees won the inaugural Can Am title in 1966 driving a Lola T70 Chevrolet. Below as it was designed to comply with an earlier ruleset than Group 7 the McLaren M1A had to carry a spare tyre - the only place with room was between the steering wheel and screen. The number 5 car was driven by Elvis Presley in 1966 during the making of his film "Spinout". The M1A was normally fitted with the 4.5 litre Oldsmobile or slightly larger Chevrolet engines.

Pre Can Am Slide 1.jpg

Above Chevrolet powered Chaparral 2A featured many air vents and zoomie style exhausts - presumably in an attempt to reduce heat build up under the body.

Finally I understand that PC2 will bring Rallycross which I am very much looking forward to - the experience would be even better if they included a couple of classic rallycross cars from the golden era when the banned "Group B" rally cars were used for British and European Rallycross - I have many happy memories of seeing fire breathing, whistling and chirping four wheel drive monsters at the Brands Hatch and Lydden Hill rallycross tracks including the following two cars.

Classic RX Slide 8.jpg

Top picture the Will Gollop twin turbo Metro 6R4 eventually produced 870bhp at the peak of its development while the Pat Doran Ford RS200 peaked at 930bhp - can you imagine driving these cars in the game?

I hope you like these suggestions I have tried to focus on making as few suggestions as possible, concentrating on quality rather than quantity and looking first at the categories already in the game which need strengthening.

It would have been easy to have suggested lots of classic saloon cars, but I have avoided these as I am not sure how the cars will feel in the new game - I have concentrated on cars in power and weight categories which currently work well in PC1. Also I would like more GT4 and GT3 cars, but many suggestions for these have already been made.

Late Addition / PS - It would be nice to get more Trans Am race series cars in the game, but again there might be licensing problems. 1970 would be the best year to pick as it was the last year with significant factory support and the widest range of manufacturers - these included Plymouth (Barracuda), Chevrolet (Camaro), Ford (Mustang), Dodge (Challenger) and AMC (Javelin).

Trans Am 1970 Slide 3.jpg

Below why I want the Ford Capri (Cologne) with GAA engine in the game!

Unfortunately, bar Ruapuna and Bathurst, there won't be any new Aussie/NZ circuits. Ian said. :(
can you please ask why no new Aussie tracks. Us Aussies make up some of the best drivers. what about the cars? we are running a 20 round racing series atm only using the FG V8Supercar, so would be nice to race on the Aussie tracks.

COME ON AUSSIES GET BEHIND ME:bowdown:

You could ask yourself in the Q&A thread. More circuits = more fun.

I am sure 80 other countries will say the same thing
I'm more surprised he wants just Aussies to get behind him. The Ford V8SC is beastly. I want more! Just get everyone behind you. Brasilian Stock Car, V8SC, DTM, TCR, WTCC, BTCC, everything!

Don't think that this archived Radio commentary could be synchrounus to your race.
If you find one on the net, put it to you Spotify playlist.

It was just a way of listening to the race archive while driving in game. A bit of Radio Le Mans commentary could help to boost the sense of immersion!

I would really like to see the t70 in there doesn't seem to get any love in sims, i know maybe Porsche & Ferrari is better but it was seen allot during that era & now they are remaking the car so is relevant.

Agree 100% about the Lola T70 - I would love to see the open topped Spyder and closed Coupe versions added to the game so I included both versions in my wishlist. A very historic car - John Surtees won the inaugural 1966n Ca Am series in a Chevrolet powered Lola T70 Spyder. He also contested the 1967 Le Mans 24 Hours in an Aston Martin V8 powered Lola T70 MK3B - sadly that was unsuccessful because the Aston Martin engine was under-developed at that time. Apart from Can Am the T70's greatest success came in the Daytona 24 hours in 1969 with 1st and 2nd. It also competed in the Japanese Grand Prix (for sports cars) against the Porsche 917, Toyota 7 and Nissan R382 also great cars which would be good additions to the game.

Above got these pics at the Hever Castle car show last year - John even let kids sit in his Lola so their proud Dad's could take some shots!

Okay, here's my wish list:

  • Be able to adjust the mirrors independently of FOV. I mean, actually be able to move the mirrors back or forth so you can actually see them, kinda like the seat adjustments but for the mirrors.
  • The ability to add a Motec style display to cars that have the display on the wheel. It kinda ruins the "immersion" for me to have to look at a the static wheel when I am already holding one in my hands.

That's it really, everything else about the game sounds pretty awesome.

Here's hoping!

- Virtual Mirror FTW if your FOV does not allow you to see the physical mirrors. There is no way around it.
- VR users will tell you what immersion is if there was no wheel and no virtual driver doing exactly what they do. A static wheel with the MOTEC display is exactly the correct way of displaying the information for wheel users and so far I've never heard complaints about it.

Just what I would wish for

Radiocommentary is for visitors and spectators. Never for the drivers :dunce:

I'm sure real racing drivers dont drink beer at the wheel either or have a cat that jumps into their lap when they are trying to take Eau Rouge at full tilt. I often have a cup of tea on the side while I am playing. I pause the race, have a sip and continue. I dont remember seeing Lewis Hamilton doing that but maybe I missed something. It's a game. I know lots of people who like to listen to music/podcasts/audiobooks while they are playing. Having the option to set a playlist might be nice for some people. Just saying....

and why then don't you play that on a 2nd device? Then you can play whatever you want. Hearing the same on podcast every time you race will be boring in a short time. BTW my fav is ZZTOP while racing ;)

Hi All (plus @IanBell @The_American )

This is something I have been thinking about for some time (ever since I competed in the GTPES), and as this is a wishlist thread I am going to have at it. :P

I think I have read somewhere that the commentator mode in PC2 will enable multiple (8?) camera views to play simultaneously and the commentator can select which one to use as the stream to the audience. This is great, but I am more interested in the tool being used for race control. As such, I think the mode needs some tools.

I think the race director needs to have a toolbar that lets them do things like issue warnings or penalties to individual competitors, call for full course yellows or red flag, or send out an automated pace car etc. That's the easy bit.

However, I would also like to see some tools where the system helps direct the focus of race control. For example, I think notifications should pop up when the game detects possible rules violations, such as corner cutting, contact, passing under yellow, etc. I would think the game is already tracking this information for the purposes of driver ratings, so why not tap into it for the race director?

When a notification pops up the director should be able to click on it and one of his monitors should show an instant replay. Ideally, he will be able to rewind and view from different angles too. After doing this he should be able to tag the notification as either a non-incident, requires further investigation (post race), or actionable on the spot. If actionable on the spot, the action needs to be taken via the tools available (e.g. issue a stop-go penalty).

The advantage of the notification system is that it could also form a log of race events that could be used to index against the replay file. This could greatly speed up the post race review. Notifications that were tagged as non-incidents or already actioned, could be filtered out and ones tagged as needing investigation (or not tagged at all) could be used to jump to that event in the replay file to review.

Another advantage of such a system would be to make the job of race control easier to accomplish with less people. Not sure how the lobby system works in PC2 but maybe less officials means more slots for drivers?

Anyway, that's what I would consider utopia for online endurance races/ league races etc. I would love it if someone in the know came back and said "Oh, yeah we have all that in the game", but if not then it's food for thought.

Oh, one other thing, it would be good if the game could deal with individual driver disconnections. For example, if the race is 24 hours and 3 hours in a competitor drops out, could the game remember their completed lap count, and when they finally reconnect and get back in could it carry on from when they left off? The time taken to get back in is penalty enough, and the game could be smart enough to know that they started the race so they are allowed to come back in even if the lobby is closed to everyone else.

Come to think of it, if there is a mass disconnection, the race controller needs to be able to establish a new race, set the race clock and competitor progress, and manually establish a new starting grid. Perhaps sufficient information can be captured real time such that all this info is available from the log of the race before it crashed?

Remember, I base all of this wish from my experience with GTPES.

What do you think?

If the music/podcast is played from the game's custom soundtrack then you get the benefit of having a better (customisable) balance of music against the in game SFX. If you are using a nice home theatre setup as I am, then the music sounds nice coming out of all of the speakers, a bit like it does when I'm driving my real car. It means that the audio pauses when I pause the game (when the cat jumps on me for example) and it basically removes the ball ache of having another device in the room to fiddle with.

My main motivation however was my personal desire to add a bit of extra ambience into my endurance racing, by playing archived Radio Le Mans race commentary while I am racing. This might sound strange to some but elsewhere on this forum, people are asking for driver and pit crew racing suits to be colour coordinated to match the chosen car livery so in the scheme of things I dont think its an unreasonable request especially as it has been a fairly common feature in games for quite some time.

don't know how thats working on the PS4. On XBox you can play music eg mp3s, spotify etc. in a backgroud task and mix it to the gaming sound. On PC also ;)

On the PS4 you can play MP3s from a USB drive using the USB Music Player. I always listen to music when I play racing games.

Use Spotify. ;)
You can do that too, but Spotify probably doesn't have the archived race commentary @24Lemons wants to have running.

I don't use Spotify because I'm an old-fashioned music pirate, plus I usually listen to game soundtracks like Ridge Racer Type 4 or Wangan Midnight Maximum Tune while racing.
