The damage model comments are interesting and seem to be different to what has been said in the Discord server. The damage model has been discussed and detailed there with zero indication it's missing launch.
There are a few extra comments from the overtake people in the youtube comments about the damage model. There is a more basic version in this preview build but it doesn't sound like the full one discussed on the discord.

There is a damage model, both mechanically and visually, so you can have a bend steering wheel etc. but it feels pretty mild
There is damage, you can break a few things, but it's very mild
Sounds like another situation where they've let people play & make content on a preview build that doesn't reflect well on the actual current state of the game, to go along with the poorly set-up rigs at events that made people think the force feedback was terrible or non-existent. It's pretty poor marketing, far more people are going to watch these previews than are members of the discord.

If they really have fixed these issues they need to make some content of that build, because at the moment the impression is a standard unfinished racing game masquerading as a 1.0 release.

Yeah I'm in no rush, got plenty of old sims to fill my time while they get it polished up & I'll keep a close eye on things as it evolves through the 1st year.

I'll purchase it at some point as there's a lot good looking stuff but this is possibly a year 2 deluxe edition purchase for me, also because I might be heading back onto a decent PC at some point (fed up with the console crap) & I'm not buying it twice.

Just read the criticism of those who spoke out against developer pro-Fascist remarks, especially those who tolerate it, going 'It's just a silly game, what does it have to do with us?' (to paraphrase). Let me remind you, fascism is pro-business. Should PMR find itself needing, let's be generous and call it expensive game changing bug-fixes (those were NEVER desperately needed for PC2, right?🙄) and the company decides to not bother because it might cut into profits, remember the day you excused their fascism with 'What's it got to do with us?'

The definition of fascism is ultranationalist beliefs bolstered by big business, and consumers don't do well whether they are the right color/religion/political party or not.

Bell's record for not fixing game destroying bugs is well known to those who have played his games since NFS Shift. There are people who will go out of their way to make things good, and there are people who think we're just sheep who will always pre-order their next game no matter WHAT condition they abandon the last one in.

And most of the latter seem to have either jumped on the far right bandwagon or are willing to tolerate those who have fully embraced fascism (neo or otherwise). Character DOES matter, in ALL walks of life.

Ian Bell is showing his.

People can choose to buy the game or not buy the game, whether that's through their views of the game, the CEO of S4 or whatever, ultimately this isn't a politics thread and I think the conversation has gone far enough in here now. It's verging on derision to those who intend the buy the game.

It is entirely possible to disagree with what has been said by people in the past and their views and still want to enjoy the game.

Oh please, do we need a tiny violin? Glad you've decided not to get PMR and won't be bothering this thread anymore.

Far right band wagon 🤦🏻‍♂

this [Project Motor Racing] is better. This is much, much better. Not going to say it’s the best, but it’s better than we’ve ever done.”
So It Begins Helms Deep GIF by Giphy QA

All aboard the Ian Bell hype train.

Also the first acknowledgement of future plans:

“I don’t have any specific expectations. I’d like to make a profit, but this is one game and it’s very hard to recoup on one game.

What a fabulous rant. Had a good laugh. Thanks for that 👍

I suppose that would apply to all western European governments as they're all supposedly "pro big business" hence they're all "fascist" Love how you also use the terms "fascist" and "Nazis" interchangeably.

The terms fascist and nazi get thrown around so much these days they’ve lost all meaning.

The mods hub being integrated into the game already is a very nice touch, quietly confident in this title or it could be bobbins and I’ll look like an idiot.
I think it will be a good game, eventually. Just not convinced on the evidence so far (what we’ve seen, not what we’ve been told) that it’ll be ready in 3 weeks.

It does seem kinda like weird marketing to haul the game around to expos with questionable FFB settings and send out rough preview versions that don't represent the final product at all. I know the development work is complicated and I'm sure they didn't want to have rough versions of the game going and all, but especially given Ian's track record, I think doing so could put a lot of people off the game early. Several people I know have backed off of it in the last few weeks, and I've switched from being tempted to pre-order to waiting for the first sale if the reviews are good.

When the game is in its final "launch" state, if they were confident with what they have they really should put out a demo or a "trial" version that just has like one track, one fast car, and one slow car so people can try the release version. Probably a good idea to include AI so people can try that out too.

It's interesting too given there has been some chatter in the last few months about AC Evo's early access not going so great and killing the hype and so on. A polished sorta "final version" experience with extremely limited content makes people excited for release and hungry for more, but a soso unpolished experience just makes people kinda indifferent.

I guess the thing is, when games don't get shown off before launch, they get accused of having something to hide. Catch 22.

I guess myself and many others will be right there with you, either happy customers or looking like a bunch of idiots. Not that I'm not expecting some initial problems, but I'm confident enough that Steam already has my money. Hopefully my laptop is up to the task.

I agree with this. Also I am pretty sure Mr. Bell is well aware of some of things that have been said about him & his games so they probably wanted to make sure that even if it isn't the most up to date version folks can see that they are working and making progress

Agreed, to be clear I wasn't saying they shouldn't show it off, just wondering aloud a bit whether it would be better to be more selective with what is shown/playable to make sure the product is representing itself the best it can. That can also draw questions I suppose, but "it plays great, I just wonder what the other cars/tracks are" seems better than "a few of the cars were great, others not so much and I wonder if they will be better at launch."

It also raises questions about whether the game is truly ready for launch... But then we seem to wonder that about basically every game that comes out after the way things have gone for gaming in the last few years, and for a lot of modern games they aren't every truly "finished" anyways. Nature of the industry I suppose.

I've watched the Overtake.gg raw gameplay video of the CLK on Spielberg. Here are some things I noticed/liked/don't like:

The sound is the obvious one, both good and bad. The onboard gameplay audio is outstanding, I get RaceRoom/iRacing vibes. Lots of character from the car and the various other things going on. However, the audio from the offboard replay angles is lacking for me. Reminds me of F1 games from Codemasters where the audio isn't really there or synced, almost just ambient noise masquerading as live sound.

There's a similar discrepancy visually, the live gameplay looks really good, lots of detail, but the replay shots look meh, similar to how it was at the SIM expo demonstration. No real concern, I don't really view replays all that often but notable no less.

AI looks much improved from the various other builds we've seen, this will only keep improving to launch so it's good to see that they were clean, competitive on pace and had some dynamism to them.

Smaller things, I like the lap delta display, up to date with the orange, green and purple sectors, looks like we will be able to choose what delta we have as well like in project cars and AMS. There's a display on the Speedo/info HUD for car ahead/behind I like this as I feel the timing tower on the left is a bit too much. I like having it but I'd like it to be more compact so it's nice that we can still have gaps if we turn that tower off.
Noticed the tyre compound was the hard, be interesting to know if the AI were on the same compound. Was nice to see the temperature appeared to be dynamic and not fixed, the front right struggled to maintain temperature on the predominantly left turned Spielberg, and similar to other Sims with the 3 column wear indicators and brake temp/life gauge as well.

I also like how the race starts show each driver and car, cool touch. He did mention at the start as well that he was doing it as a one make race as there are cars in the class that are yet to be revealed, whilst I know there's a few missing in the class (we have the Merc, Panoz and Porsche confirmed now), this must be McLaren surely? Unless they curve ball us with the Diablo GT1 or the Elise GT1?

Also just dawned on me that we don't have official BMW confirmation yet, maybe that ties into the lack of McLaren F1 announcement? I know it's not strictly a BMW project but it's there enough to perhaps be tucked into the BMW reveal?
