Also you have the singed carpet which could have been rather serious and resulted in a singed person. Ontop of that theres plenty of people that have never had to replace their PS2's, mines 4-5 years old, nothing wrong with it. Theres been faulty XB's and faulty PS2's.

Yeah the bottom line is pretty much that **** happens. Deal with it.

My brother and I both got a PS2 at the same time around 3 years ago. His laser burned out last year and mine still works good as new. And here's the funny part, I've used mine a whole heck of alot more than he used his.

Same here. My PS2 is still running strong and my Xbox is sitting ON TOP of it.
No DREs or anything.

Driftster
Well my 3 Ps2's are sitting next to under and behind my X box....1 of the 3 Ps2's is still running strong.....

Guess that's your fault for not getting the first two replaced then right? Or even the first ONE for that matter.

Fact is it's just something that happens, and technology just isn't perfect. If 90% of the PS2's come out of the factory working fine, then by an industry standard, that is acceptable. If only 75% came out fine, then there would be a noticeable problem. But the DRE apply's to a maximum of 10% of the millions of PS2's, and many of them were replaced at no cost minus shipping. It only takes a phone call.

Yeah, I've had mine for 3 years now, and I got 2 bros so this thing takes a beating. But it's no n64 which I just destroyed. My Ps2 still works fine even tho my fat ass cousin dropped it off a table. He ended up breaking the a/v(or whatever) slot on the ps2 and pieces of plastic came out and now the wire fits VERY LOOSELY, easily coming out. I'm thinking of getting a xbox for a while just so I can play some of their licensed games.

No tha con, you see..
I didn't feel like waiting 2-3 months for my PS2. Which if you don't remember is how long the wait was upon their launch.

But much to my Shagrin, my second went out even quicker than the first.....So I just bought an X box and have enjoyed it ever since.

I bought a PSslim for GT4..that's still working, but it see's activity maybe once every 2 weeks..

didnt one guy from europe get the new power cable for his x-box and after a wekk it blew up in his face?.

Sony said they either want a pre installed version of Linux or OSX on the ps3, also sony have stated that the ps3 isnt aimed at the home user and will cost alot more than the ps2 did at launch.

Huh...that's funny because I got mine in less than a month after I sent it to sony...hmm.

Also, it's awkard that you have accused so many of being nerds in the past etc etc, yet you cannot got for a few months without a video game? I dunno, maybe I'm nit picky, but you seem to be even more so, and contridicting no less.

I could constantly correct you, however, it would be a waste of my time, as you just say thing off of a whim, or what you've heard, rather than personal experience with anything. otherwise you would know that the wait is rarely 2-3 months, and more often it's 1 and a half months at most.

Well that's hilarious, good to know your #'s somehow ALWAYS, no matter how fictious they may sound, are always there to make ME look like a Liar..
God isn't that just so strange?

Well, considering I was about 15 at the time.
I'd say that's pretty normal.
I mean if you were 14-15 and got a new gaming system..
just played it enough to get a "Taste" and then it crapped out on you because the company doesn't know how to build quality products(too bad i didn't realize this earlier)
I think if you had the opportuniny to get AN OTHER one instead of waiting a few months I'm sure you'd take that opportuninty aswell..
But call me crazy if you wish.

I could constantly correct you, however, it would be a waste of my time,
Yes...PLEASE correct me on the experiences i've had in my life.
I would love to know your take on me getting my liscence aswell, or perhaps about when I lost my virginity. Since you seem to be the Tyler Reece Holmes historian and everything why not entertain us all with your recallections of my many "adventures" :dopey:
as you just say thing off of a whim, or what you've heard, rather than personal experience with anything. otherwise you would know that the wait is rarely 2-3 months, and more often it's 1 and a half months at most.

Did you not read the whole "launch" thing...
Not to mention when it was first being repaired there was still about a 60 dollar shipping cost, 1 way...And then COD upon arraival. Why wait 3 months, and pay money...
But wait..YOU know that right...It's silly for me to even mention such things infront of you seeing as how you know everyone that has returned their playstation within the first 2 months of launch...
Silly me!

First, I don't know who on gods green earth you are shipping it to that it ran you 60 bucks, mine was no where near that, in fact, I paid something like 13 or 15 dollars, don't remember it was 4 years ago. THen I got a small COD for $20. I can tell you, I'd rather miss out on say a month or two of gaming, and pay $35-40 dollars, rather than spend the extra $300 you claim you spent since it was at "launch".

In FACT. If, by your statement:

seeing as how you know everyone that has returned their playstation within the first 2 months of launch

You mean that YOU had a break down of your PS2 within the first 2 months, I'd say nothing buy you are a simple minded halfwit, because it DOES have a 90 day warranty out of the box...:O shocker! You're the fool for buying another instead of getting a new one free (minus shipping).

ALSO. It's not difficult at all, if you have testicular fortitude, to speak with a telemarketer and explain to him why his punk ass will return my PS2 free with shipping charges ONLY (and have him break it all down to you, it's what smart people do) and when he tells you of all the ADDITIONAL charges, you tell him it's not YOUR responsibility to pay, because YOU did not cause the malfunction. DUN DUN DUN. New PS2 for under $50 bucks, very easy, and I am sorry you couldn't pull it off without wasting mommy and daddy's money.

I'd like to share my experience of my faulty PS2 with you all, but I can't because in 5 years it's not broken once. thats not to say the PS2's a super reliable machine but the percentage of them that breaks isn't higher than normal for a console. ou hear about more of them because theres more of them to break down you see. It's by percentage, if you have three times as many machines out there a your rival and you have two and half times as many faulty ones, that doesn't mean your machine is 2 1/2 times less reliable, theres actually less chance of it breaking down. These arn't stats about the PS2 because I don't know where I'd find them, but it seems to me people don't apply this logic, they thin more PS2's have broke so they're less reliable forgetting that theres far more PS2's out there than rival machines.

So i'm just very unlucky with Sony PS2's...
Because my PSX didn't break...
My diskman's broken a couple times but...it's ALRIGHT....

But my 2 ps2's..just..you know..must have been in that 2%

I would say you were unlucky, it's not like there arn't ANY faulty PS2's, but it's the same with XB's. If I'd had 2 PS2's and they both broke and one XB that didn't I'd be leaning very much into the XB camp myself because it's not nice when that happens, however you were simply unlucky.

it's funny that only when you are sarcastic are you correct.

Driftster
Funny thing is..
I wasn't being sarcastic....

Funny how when you assume something you're always wrong..

No, you're simply too young to understand anything about the market, or warranty's, or to speak like an adult, you live off of mommy and daddy, etc etc.

If you were 15 when PS2 came out, it makes you maybe 20 now? You should be much more mature and you should also, having any secondary education, if you do, ,know that nothing that ever comes from the factory is ever "perfect" and there are defects.

Sony produces many many more PS2's than Microsoft produces Xboxes. I can promise you there are horror story's of broken xbox's, but the fact is, there are more PS2's, so the percentages are higher, as I tried to tell you before, and as l4s tried to tell you.

40 million PS2's, with maybe 2 million if that, that break down, that's being extremely generous. That's what, something like 5%? You'd be hard pressed to find more than two million people, IF THAT, who have broken PS2's.

Fact is, you are another fanboy, more so than I. At least I have factual information and understanding rather than false opinions and guess work.

SO, please explain to me how I'm wrong since you:

A) Missed your warranty that was apparently still good.

B) Bought another PS2 for 300 rather than being smart and calling the company.

and

C) Seem to have very little to ever prove anything except for your word of mouth.

I got a 2 year warranty with my PS2 back 2001 FOR $40. So near the end of that(when Vice City came out) I got lucky and i got the disc read error. I was happy because I knew i could get a brand new PS2 for nothing and I did. I now have a $20 1 year ALL damge warranty for my (used 1.5) PSP, it even covers dropping it or any other damage not covered by sony including the "act of god" which can be found in the owners manual.

Instore warranties are worth the $20-$40(2 year) And you bet if PS3 is $400 another $30 aint so bad to make sure i wont have to buy another if it breaks after the 90 days.

Sony has reaffirmed its commitment to the protection of minors from the effects of violent videogames with the announcement of in-built parental controls for its next generation PS3 console.

Sony joined Japan's biggest retailers, publishers and developers in a discussion with the Tokyo government last week, designed to establish a universal approach to the issue of violent videogames and their alleged associated effects on children.

The city's government, along with several prefectural governments across Japan, is considering a wide-reaching change to its current rating system and preventing the sale of certain software to minors, in a similar fashion to European practices.

Sony appeared determined to provide self-regulatory functionality to its hardware devices, putting the decision over content firmly back in the hands of the parents and drawing the decision away from developers and retailers. The government were reminded that the Sony PSP has parental control functions built in, and Sony confirmed that a similar, more comprehensive system would be implemented in its PS3 console when it launches next year.

Microsoft, also present at the talks, has already confirmed that its forthcoming Xbox 360 console will have an adaptable parental control systems in place, allowing parents to dictate what content can be played on the console. Using Microsoft's system, parents can change the console so that it requires a password to access mature content and to log on to Xbox Live. The controls can also be adapted to decide whether or not the user's identity is revealed online, amongst other protective solutions.

Developers and publishers present were more cautious in their approach to the issue, as Yoichi Wada from Square-Enix warned the governors not to judge thoughtlessly, stating that "it's necessary to verify whether or not youth crime and video games are connected." Namco also voiced concerns over the lack of convincing scientific evidence that videogames have a detrimental effect on the minds of children.

Parental control systems are a sensible solution to the issue of minors playing violent or graphic videogames; placing the responsibility on concerned parents, rather than imposing evermore stringent laws on the retail and publishing community. However, the furore over violence in games, appropriate ratings systems, new legislation and enforced sales policies continues unabated in the West at the moment.

Recent events in California, where Governor Schwarzenegger signed into law a controversial violent videogames bill, continue to be the subject of intense political and industry debate. The ESA and The VSDA are currently proceeding with legal action to overturn the California bill.

he talks big smack about the ps2 being ****ty, yet he owns 3.
looks like somebody didnt learn or needs to learn. 💡

i honestly dont have an xbox, im waiting till it gets down to 100 that or ill see what 360 is all about.
if both consoles suck... then ill just stick with computer gaming.

PS3 Update: Sony PS3 to come with movies, games and TV shows.

The PS3, scheduled to be introduced in Japan in mid-2006 and in the U.S. a few months later, is expected to be technically more advanced than the Xbox 360 in many ways.

Sony’s CEO, Sir Howard Stringer, said recently that Sony will sell the PS3 at a loss in order to populate the world with Sony’s favored high-definition DVD standard, known as Blu-ray. If millions of Blu-ray PlayStations find their way into living rooms, Sony figures, movie studios will be compelled to embrace it over the rival standard, known as HD-DVD.

Sir Howard said the PS3 will sell for $300 to $400 and will come with a bundle of games, movies, and TV shows, many of which Sony also makes. The question is whether the titles will be bundled on Blu-ray DVD discs or on a built-in hard drive.

So should you wait a year for the PS3 or buy the Xbox 360 today? Current Xbox owners are likely to upgrade to the 360, and current PS2 owners will probably stick with Sony. New gamers, however, have little reason to wait nearly a year for the PS3, and Microsoft is almost certain to gain some ground on Sony.

That is some good news and a good business move by Sony. I'm afraid they'll win those losses back by increasing the price of games. Then again, I already don't pay 60 euros for a game now, unless they are REALLY good, and when a game is REALLY good I don't mind to pay 75 either.

Yep... I have a diehard movie fan that loves the tech part of it too and that's the only reason he's getting one, not so much for the games.

if they do it's either not going to be much or it won't last very long.

They'll gain a lot in the next year, but it won't last. When the PS3 comes out, it'll surpass the XB360 in sales and available software within the first 18 months imo.

I think I'll start saving money for the PS3, I don't think I'll get an Xbox360. So is the $300/400 price mark official then?

If it's $400 it'll be 300 pounds which is'nt expensive for a new console, that's what the XB360's premium pack costs and what the PS2 originally retailed at (for some reason the pound sign isn't on this keyboard).

May 2006 - E3 - 6 months from today

•*Microsoft is hosting a conference 2 days prior to the fair-opening to show enormuos X360 line-up of "2nd Gen X360 games". Halo 3 is shown for the first time, together with wonders from Japanese developers. Few big MMORPGs has been shown for the first time, and MS plans to build a big MMORPG community around the globe. Games look great, press is stunned, J Allard is talking about "true power of X360 shown for the first time". Many new Live! features are announced and connectivity with both "Vista OS" and "Media Centar" has become a key-point of "secondary features".

•*On the same day, only few hours later Nintendo is showing Revolution with demos of next-gen Zelda, Mario and Metroid Prime in conjuction with the new controller. Further conectivity with GB platforms is announced, together with emphasis on downloadable content of "All-Time-Nintendo-Libraries". Games look nice, gameplay is pretty much revolutionized with "remote-cont", Nint is keen to stress that "next-gen is not about specs but games and the broadening the ways that games are played". Revolution is backward compatible with GC games and has DVD and CD player built-in. Online is also the big story for the first time, and all first and third party titles has online-component. All big names in industry are supporting NR, but only few third-party games are compatible with RemoteCont.

•*Day before the show Sony once more steals all the attention. The final design of PS3 is revealed, together with the true-specs of the console. Numbers and performance are killing. New GPU from nVidia has nothing to do with specs shown in 2005, it is a technological-breaktrough in every term. Demos of MGS4, Gran Turismo and Killzone are just too real to belive. Everything shown in 2005 looks silly compared to PS3 real-time graphics. Square/Enix unveils stunning RPG portfolio, Namco, Konami, Ubisoft and EA, togehther with all big third-party players are showing demos that "were done just 2 months prior to the show, because final developer kits was finished 70 days ago". HD EyeToy find it's way in every game, PS3 online community has been built from experience of "Sony Online Entertainement" and it will become alive with the first day of PS3s' life - in the very end of 2006 - as the statement says. PS3 games look amazing - 60 to 120 fps, 1080p as a main-tech-PR-feature, some hardware elements of the console has been stripped down from the 2005 mock-up - yet, 2 HDMI ports are there, MS Duo slot is there, gigabit ethernet is there. Blu-Ray is the key-selling-point of the next-gen, and Sony "is the only who offered a gamers a true next-gen high-definition experience. We are the only who delivered a promise of the next generation". Playable demos of MGS and GT steals the show. Compared to PS3 titles, all other next-gen games looks previous-gen. "Dreamcast Syndrom" repeating once more.

Sony can wait untill the 2007 - in 2006 new Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy: Dirge of Cerberus and Final Fantasy XII are keeping the tension for PS2 on fair. Price of both PS2 and PSP has been further cut, and some first-party games for PS2 are displaying a new feature of compatibility with PSP via USB cable. All "last-generation" games for PS2 looks amazing, and some unexpected titles has appeared to keep the eye on PS2, as KillZone 2 and GT Concept 2, together with brand-new online-only MGS title. Capcom is also showing Resident Evil 4: Epilogue for PS2-only.

Optimistic time-line:

Japanese PS3 line-up is shown on 2006 Tokyo Game Show and PS3 is out in Japan at December 2006. US and Europe gets it's console during Q2 of 2007, just after E3 2007.

E3 2007 shows enourmuos line-up of PS3 games from all developers. Next-gen PSP is announced for 2008, with Micro-Cell processor built-in and big line-up of titles. Press is stunned once more and Sony is sure it has stolen the show once again. But.

Facing with the obvious inferiority of 360 MS is announcing a brand new XB console for 2008, and all buyers of X360 will get it for some simbolic money-amount. Bad-PR is a killer, but MS is too strong to not be able survive it. Bill Gates himself is hosting a keynote, and stunning-news is revealed concerning merge of Xbox division with one of the world-biggest names in gaming industry. It becomes the greatest news of 2007 E3.

Pesimistic time-line:

Japanese sales begins after E3 2007, while US and EU gets PS3 in hollyday season of 2007. All other events as predicted above.
