PSN Servers down?

It's ridiculous. Half the problem for me is the 'unlimited' service provided by talktalk. The 'unlimited' part referring to the level of being anger you achieve when dealing with their service. 8Mbps advertised. 0.2 being provided, as tested last year. this year, we couldn't even load the bloody connection speed test.
I have almost the same problem with my ISP. I'm paying for 50down 20up so on average I expect to see like 40-45 average down right ? nope half of the week my internet tanks to like 15 or 10 for like an hour then goes back to 45.

Any news/hope? :(
All they're saying is "thank you for your patience" I'm starting to lose hope.

If LS are able to DDoS PSN for several days, I'm pretty sure they're able to cover their tracks.

Which is a moot point when they have openly admitted to doing so. Throw them in jail. If they didn't do it, then they'll get what they deserve for lying about a crime. And if they did do it, then they also get what they deserve.

If they don't extend the duration of the sales then I'm gonna be pissed.

So you're telling me that we need to throw a faceless, nameless black-hat DDoSing group into jail where the only evidence is a claim to responsibility?

You really have no idea how the penal system works, do you?

But godammit Daniel, there are online games at stake here!

Xbox Live seems to be struggling too. In a way it is rather impressive that they can simultaneously bring down PSN and Xbox Live, but also slightly irritating.

I was intensely disappointed at first but I've just played Smash Bros and Mario Kart this Christmas to soften the blow.

Xbox Live is usually more stable than PSN each time they've both been attacked. Last time PSN went down thanks to a certain reptilian outfit, Xbox Live was only slightly affected. I can't seem to download liveries in Forza Horizon 2, but at least I can still sign in. :P

Yes, I heard that Nintendo was fine.

@Jawehawk the authorities really need to find out who these people are first, like @Daniel says (albeit a bit bluntly), they're presently safely anonymous as people. Mind you, Anonymous itself and another group have stated that they are keen to expose who they are, plus the FBI have been talking to Sony. You can also bet that MS aren't going to be idle in turfing these people out.

I'm not saying they can do this. I'm saying that, if possible, they should. If they didn't want to suffer the consequences of a crime, then they should't claim responsibility, now should they? You don't go into an airport and say you have a bomb on you, and then expect to be let off without consequences if you were only joking. I believe there are laws against claiming to be responsible for crimes you didn't do?

As for them being faceless. Admittedly, I have zero knowledge of how the internet and so on works, but I must say, I find it hard to believe that authorities who specializes in these things can't track down a bunch of low life hackers... But this might very well be due to my ignorance on the subject matter.

As for the GIF. Grow up...

Well considering the fact that since xbox is Microsoft and Microsoft is %85 of the OS market, of course they're flagship console will have amazing security and stability. PSN security is an independent thing made for Sony's company and their consoles. Heck even Sony uses Microsoft.

Claiming responsibility is admitting guilt so yes. Prison for them.

they have posted few screenshots of them making "games free" so i believe that the federals will have enough evidence to put them in jail for at least 6 months. that aside, DDos attacks are not difficult to create, simply over flowing the servers with too many requests, i'm suprised psn and xbox live reach the maximum server capacity so easily.

so they wont open them later tonight ?

There's a slight difference between implying that you will blow up an aeroplane, killing several hundred people in the process; and not allowing people to play their game.

It's near impossible to simply 'throw them in jail' when you don't actually know who 'them' is (yes, that doesn't make grammatical sense but I'm trying to put across a point). How do you suspect we begin this case? We know Lizard Squad's doing the DDoS attacks. That's all we know about it so far. Nobody knows who's actually behind LS.

I singlehandedly took down PSN and Xbox Live. Am I responsible now?

Like I said before. How are the 'federals' going to actually find out who's behind LS?

This is why the backlash towards an always online console was justified. Just imagine the uproar if everyone who bought a shiny new box couldn't have played on Christmas day!

Wanna know whats more annoying ? I knew I was getting a $100psn card for christmas, so I went on the ps store days before and saw all the sales happening and with $100 thats dream come true right ? wrong! I go to put the code in and I can't even do that, can't access the store then I got signed out and couldn't log back. What's even worse is that the Flash sale and christmas is gonna be over by monday or tuesday..fml.
just find the stuff online and buy it there you can redeem your code there too that's how I do most of my playstation shopping is through my phone these days.

Edit: Haha strike that they are claiming the website is under 'scheduled' maintenance right now and my phone isn't signing in either

IP Address, even if it's a decoy address the traces will still be there. How do you think Sony caught the spanish hackers in 2011?

For Sony/ FBI it shouldn't be difficult to trace where the DDoS was created from, if you truly believe that a simple twitter account can't be traced then you are very mistaken.
There are a lot ways in which the attackers can be found, i'd give it a month or so.

however LS may just be a decoy, that grammar on their twitter is primary school level. can't see them being able to pull it off alone.

He didn't say that the twitter can't be traced, but simply, over an over and over again, said that they will need to be found in order to be thrown in prison. Do you think they aren't smart enough to attempt to try to cover their tracks a best as possible?

Another thing is why would you think that no one is actually trying to find these people? I'm sure these two bohemeth of companies are looking into it, rather then standing by and twiddling their thumbs. Finding the attackers is obviously provin harder than you seem to think.

I wonder if we'll be getting any compensation, and if we do, what kind of stuff will we get?
