^ The issue of race has crossed my mind in regards to the unfair treatment of rap music. That's not to say that is why it's unfairly treated...it's definitely crossed my mind a few times, though.

Are we talking about pioneers of musical genre’s or the genre itself? There so much cookie cutter bands out there that's it's sickening. "Hey, these guys went gold with their record, I know we could sound like them...." is a tipical thread for most 'popular' bands. It also suits the producers and corporate music industries to line their pockets with $$$ derived from this approach. It's business, and business is good.

So..., what is the musical timeline and what influences what? Classical, blues, R&B, Pop, Pop Rock, Rock, industrial, country, country rock, country and western ;), metal, death metal, dark metal (heavy classical influence), punk....In all the music forms of today, there's nothing original (well very little) about it. Rock, country, R&B, Rap, are all derivatives of blues. Blues is the foundation of almost all of our mainstream music today, whether or not people know it.

It's certainly much larger than I can even attempt to touch in this post. An entire book can be written about it..., lifetimes have been spent studying it. I have mentioned a few genre's, local to the US, what about international genre's? As social adversity plays it role, we will see continuance of genre mutations.

I've often wondered what the "next" genre of music will be? And not just a sub-genre, but something totally new and fresh. Only time will tell, technology has changed some of the instruments, but the basis, or foundation of the songs remain....

Back to the topic of Rap trying to influence drug use, killing cops, and smackin' a whoe.....most of it is just for the "shock" value to increase sales, much like sensational journalism. There’s another group of artists that are talking about “their” lifestyle or experiences. And finally you have the group of artists that just “say what the other guys are saying”.

....more on the topic to come!

Have you actually heard "most rap music"? Nope. Not even 1/100,000th of it.

If you believe Rap revolves around murder, sex, drugs, crime, and such things, you have no right to speak on the matter because it reflects your ignorance. It's my opinion that a person shouldn't be allowed to speak on things they know nothing about. As I said, you and people like you need to listen to more Hip-Hop than what MTV shoves down your throat and become educated on Hip-Hop or never speak about it again.

I'm actually offended that you seem to think that rappers go out every night raping, killing, and molesting people like they were Alex and his Droogies from A Clockwork Orange. I don't think you can truthfully say you've heard a rap song about molesting preteens because I can't, and I've heard more rap music than you could possibly fathom. Also, you seem to be suggesting that rap music is part of why America has extremely high crime rates in comparison with the rest of the world, which is plain stupid.

I swear, it's the late 70's all over again. Rap has replaced Metal as the new "devil's music."

Sorry I offended you Graphic, but it's my opinion- and I have a right to post it.

Now maybe you're right. Maybe I haven't heard a lot of rap music. And no, I am not suggesting it is the reason we have such crime in America and no, I do not think rappers are the ones who do all the murder, killing, rape, etc., etc. Now if there is good rap out there, they better start airing it.

And did I say rappers go out and do that stuff? No I didn't. And I apologize for not wording my post in a more understandable manner, but I get sick and tired of hearing and seeing what I do on MTV, BET, and on the radio. Now have I heard a rap song about rape and molestation? Well I can honestly say it's what I hear from the mouths of people at school. I've heard so much perversion in rap music that it just turns me away.

Allow me to defend my case by saying that I have heard SOME, but rare, good rap music. But like I said, for the most part, I don't care much for the rap that I hear.

So there's my two cents worth. If you have any suggestions on Rap music that you think is good, suggest it to me, I'll listen and see what I think.

I don't understand why people constantly bash other types of music. I enjoy rap, rock, classical, spanish, and other stuff. On the other hand I do not like country, pop, and middle eastern music. I think music in general is great. Its a great way for people to express themselves and for people to relate to others. Ok, back to the subject of rap. I don't like the little posers out there who just talk about money, cars and hoes. Rap Like 2pac, Dre, Ice-T, and more recently 50 cent (just to name a few) talk about their lives and the lives of people in their area's of growing up. Its not to different than rockers who talk about their lives and growing up just sounds different. Now Im not saying there is anything wrong with not likeing a type of music, just don't be closed minded and ignorant. If you don't like something fine, just don't criticise people for liking it. Except for the people who like crap just because its popular. Ok, well Im typing way to damn much and this post is not ment to focus on any one person I was just talking in general. Sorry for making this so huge that no one will read it lol. :D

I look into that. Thanks.
And yes, I am female.

here ya go: http://www.thefastandthefurious.com/

click that, and click the link up in the left corner to ludacris's music video. maybe all of you ppl who hate rap might like the video, and gain a better perspective about rap.

edit>> the lyrics definitely suit the video, which could show you why rap is not bad.

I think you just showed the WORST example of rap. Ludicrous made those rhymes just for the movie and nothing else.

We need to get this guy some real rap.

wrong. ludacris isn't some sicko like eminem. he can piss people off by kidding around by non-murderous ways. i think his lyrics are great. i don't get it. is it that hard to be normal and not b***h about music? instead bunch of us are here trying to show that rap isn't bad.(that wasn't targeted at you Viper Zero)

If we are here to prove that Rap is not bad, then you're not helping us very much by saying Ludicrous has good lyrics. He does not have good lyrics and he is not a good example of rapers or Rap itself.

I suggest listening to late 80's Rap, when all of it started. I believe those artist (and very, very few currently) represent Rap is a positive light and can be respected by others.

As you can see in my quote at the bottom of my post, I enjoy Rap. So, don't criticize me for hating it.

u like what u like, and i like what i like. u like older rap, i like newer. so what? just leave it at that.:)

No, you do not know how to read.

You say Ludicrous represents the good side of Rap, he does not.

i say he represents non killing spree-psycho rappers who talk about little girls being killed by terrorists on the most horrific day in american history, and the biggest terrorist act on america ever, not him neccesarily being a good example.

edit>> and a few posts ago, instead of rappers, you put rapers;)

Ludicrous represents the current trend of mainstream bubble-gum "Pop Rap". In 5 years, he will be a nobody.

Those "Killing spree Psycho Rappers" are also mainstream. They never came from "The Hood" or fought everyday of their lives to protect themselves from gangs. They just try to act hard.

You misunderstood what Eminem was trying to say in that line. He is trying to provoke a feeling on par of what he feels inside. I never said Eminem was a good representation of Rap either. His lyrics are excellent, but he is not a good role model.

my views:

i don't care about popularity or "mainstream" i care about the lyrics and how it sounds.

eminem could've used a better example than some little girl about to get killed by terrorists.

i never said you said eminem was a good example.

ludacris can still be "mainstream", regardless of what you say, you are not every fan.

lets just end this argument, my final statement: i could careless about mainstream, i like the sound.

just wondering, what have you recently heard about a rapper that did something wrong, and i do not consider r. kelly a rapper.

 Gran Turismo7058 :)

i couldn't agree more, i dislke country alot, but i am not gonna get all b****y when someone likes it.

This is more of an opinion thread. If the topic contains the word "think" its your opinion, not fact. My opinion is that rap is the best, its about all I listen to.

hey i like rap, metal, some contry..i am sick of people sterotyping music by its lyrics...thats my two cents

I like all types of music, however, I can not include rap in that category, because it's not music, it was never really intended to be in the first place. A rapper is a musician just as much as any of the members of any boy band are, they will tell you the same thing, if they don't, they are lying to you, themselves, and about everything that's good about music. They are entertainers. Period. That's what their job was initially, and still what it is now. Rapping began at parties, someone would lay down a track, and they'd do their best to rhyme some words to it, such as now. I am starting to like various raps that I've heard, but I still won't call it music.

I hope I won't be biased here because I'm into Alternative/Rock music. I really don't like listening to

Rap because it has no sense at all! (Not that all Rock music has sense... oh you know what I mean) The

artist just says a bunch of words in a short span of time. I can't understand the lyrics AND what's up

with the low, dull voices? It's so... expressionless. Listening to rap gives me a headache.
Everyone wears the same thing: baggy clothes (FUBU?), funny hats and that huge gold chain around their

necks! What's up with that? And why do they always have to project the filthy rich life in a mansion or

with their expensive cars smoking a fat joint? Their videos are so predictable...
The artist raps... then some different female artist sings the chorus. Rappers can't sing! Naet's

right... Rap's not music. I'm sure it's just a fad.

Well, the only good thing I can say with rap is that... it's just fun to dance to since it has a beat.:irked:
