Where is that picture from? I totally missed that one.

Assuming you're reffering to the picture of the car covered by sheet, its not the RB5 or the RB6, its the X1.

your right I thought the image was a photo stupid mistake to make. They could have the F1 in though because Polphony did say that more F1 cars where on thier way in addition to Ferrari was a while back but you never know
 
Praying for any F1 cars from 1960 - 1998. That would be the perfect finish for me.

Made it a bit brighter, you can see some of the suspension this way, not a lot though.
 
This one is better. But if a higher/less degraded version is available, it would be possible to show less artifacts, probably:

At first, it looks like there is a dome-like structure over the driver compartment, or perhaps it is headrest for the driver. It's hard to tell with the reflections in that picture. However, when you look at the video, it was clearly an open-cockpit design, as you saw the driver's helmet clearly.

Anyway, this car looks like it will be the best of both worlds. It will be lightweight and of minimalist design, like an F1 car, only with wheel fairings for improved aerodynamic efficiency, and lighting for night/endurance racing.

Mark my words (and what everyone is thinking, surely) this car will be absolutely spectacular to drive. This car will produce truly Earth-shattering lap times that were previously unimaginable. 20+ seconds quicker than Raikkonen's lap record at Suzuka is very telling of what this car is capable of. Keep in mind, people, that 2005 was the final year of the powerful 900+ hp 3.0L V10s and ultra-sticky tires (due to the battle between Bridgestone and Michelin). If Vettel managed a lap time 20+ seconds quicker than that, I really can't imagine how phenomenal this car will be to finally drive. :cool:

I'm actually far more curious to find out what this car is ultimately made up of. I can't wait to see what engine format they went with, displacement, etc. I can imagine it is turbocharged, but maybe not. Who really knows. Since Newey had a hand in it, maybe he felt that the 3.0L V10s were the pinnacle of what was best for a package like this, and chose to simply turbocharge them and add KERS. Maybe he went with a 4.0L V12, who really knows. All I know is, when the specs are finally revealed, I hope it piques the interest of people like me who are just as fascinated with the technical side of Formula One as the racing itself. :)

Believe it or not, its actually a closed cockpit. It just happens to be more like that of a fighter then a comtemparary racecar. If you look at the in-game picture, you see the silouette which isn't shaped like an open cockpit. Perhaps the Rollbar gives you the illusion that its open top.
 
Yep, it's closed, the speedometer also seems to projected into the canopy (a HUD similar to the one from the Corvette).

Really? Are you sure? I thought I recalled in the video that it showed the driver (with Vettel's helmet and face) clearly visible through an open-cockpit. Maybe I'm remembering it wrong.
 
Someone posted a 1080p version of this pic somewhere. Trying to find it.

Indeed it showed Vettel's Helmet and face very clearly, but what you saw was a clear canopy.
 
Now that I look at it again, I think you're correct. It wouldn't make sense if this wasn't projected onto some kind of canopy over the driver.

And when I look at this again, I think it's a camera from inside the canopy, rather than the cockpit being open. You can kind of see there being a seam around the entire cockpit, back to the roll bar, for some sort of covering to be secured into.

Also, looking at the HUD, 397 km/h in 6th gear is quite impressive, and really shows the potential power output and aerodynamic efficiency of the X1. Let's just assume that the X1 has at least 7 forward gears (like a current Formula One car), or possibly even an 8- or 9-speed gearbox (but that would add weight).

If you look back at the 3.0L V10 era, ending in 2005, the cars were pushing 360 km/h or so (roughly, from memory) at the end of the front straight at Monza, in low-downforce configurations. If the X1 is achieving 397 km/h in 6th gear, while still quite clearly accelerating, I don't see 450 km/h in 7th gear all that unreasonable to achieve on a fast circuit. :cool:

Circuit De La Sarthe. They have been there in real life for about 50 years.

Although I doubt the X1 can reach almost 400 at this part, but the video could be "faked" in this regard.

I'm thinking it was probably a high-speed run, so it could be any of the following:

- Le Mans
- Monza

As far as I can remember, the Test Track from GT3 and GT4 (5 km long oval), did not have trees visible on the track, correct?
 
I haven't checked yet, but approximately at what point of the La Sarthe straight(s) are those trees? That might give an indication of the performance of this Red Bull X1 Prototype :)

You might be right about the video being "faked". It already happened several times in the case of GT5.

Yep. Never had any trees in close proximity to the track that way they are seen in the video.

That would coming out Tetre Rouge onto the Mulsanne straight I believe.

That's an excellent observation. :cool:

If the X1 is using the current track with chicanes, then achieving 397 km/h in 6th gear between those chicanes is all the more impressive. My estimate of 450 km/h potential would be on the conservative side, if that were the case.

I strongly doubt they would "fake" the speed of the car in a video like this. I truly do believe we are seeing the true potential of what this car will be able to achieve.

If you keep the fact that Vettel achieved a lap time 20+ seconds quicker than a Formula One car producing 900+ hp in 2005 in perspective, then speeds such as this are well-within the realm of what this car can do. :cool:
 
What engine do you guys think it will have? I think at least a 3.5L V12 Twinturbo.

At this point, it's virtually impossible to imagine what type of engine is in the X1.

However, as I mentioned in a previous post, I think it's fair to say that, at the very least, it could have a derivative of a 3.0L V10, possibly turbocharged. The only reason I say that is because the 3.0L V10 was the pinnacle of true power in F1 before the 2.4L V8s were introduced in 2006, so building upon them would only be natural for Adrian Newey.

If we were to keep the same type of architecture in place that existed with the 3.0L V10s, then they have a per-cylinder displacement of 300cc (0.3L). So, maybe that 300cc per-cylinder is a sweet spot in engine design. If it is, then it's possible the X1 is powered by a 3.6L V12 or even an outlandish 4.8L V16. Then, the engine very-well could be turbocharged, in which case it would likely stick to the smaller and lighter 3.0L V10 or 3.6L V12.

Really, at this point, anyone's guess as to engine format cannot be ruled out. We also should not rule out some form of KERS being used on the X1. :cool:
