Double tap L1 with one pistol equipped to do wee fancy spins.

Also, I don't get how you people are accidentally shooting . Literally always have your gun in the holster (L1) and dont press R2 ever, unless you want to shoot.

I think we can't shoot right from the front... Maybe it has to be a clean shot from the side in order for the animal's skin to be in perfect condition. Which if true, is great attention to detail IMO.

Study the animal to see the quality of it in the bottom right before you kill it. If it is only a 1 or 2 star animal then no matter how you kill it, you will receive a poor/good pelt. If it is a 3 star animal then you have to kill it 'properly' to get a perfect pelt.

I've accidentally shot people too, including the charity guy in Valentine. Since most of you all are doing honorable playthroughs, maybe I'll try being evil. I have a semi-good start at it, both times when I had to decide the fate of the henchmen, I've killed all but one.

When the game tells you that you can hold in triangle to rest, I was beside a guy on a bench and I just yanked him straight out of the bench and started choking him right in front of the sheriff. He wasn't too happy.

I'm not finding the control system very intuitive in hurried situations. Where you hit L2 to focus on someone, I was often hitting R2 thanks to some useless reflex reaction. I'm trying to play through as an anti-hero also, but I've not gotten off to a great start!

I drowned my horse in high water by accident....Nobody said Western style would be easy. Especially with (a) Dutch as leader of the pack :D
I was travelling up to the snowy area and my horse passed out and died there and then. Cue 25 minutes of frantic sprinting in the freezing cold to return to civilisation. Feels oddly rewarding to see how the game doesn't cut you any breaks if you act like an idiot.. Lot of games nowadays have a quick button fix for any difficult situation.

You can pay your bounty at the Post Office.
I never shot someone by mistake but a I've pulled and aimed my gun at a few people because the button to bring up the menu to interact with them is the same as aiming.
I'm also finishing the story and never relied on Dead Eye too much either. I couldn't get used to the mechanics until late game. 4 buttons is a lot! ^^
After finishing the story I hope I can go and hunt and craft everything I didn't.

@happycorey wasn't it a Western Bull Moose? I saw one yesterday and shot it down with a clean headshot but the skin was only "good". I think we can't shoot right from the front... I haven't got a clue what animal it was but seemed like a moose should've been bigger. I think you have to be aware of the exit wound too, but checking for a perfect/pristine pelts before you shoot (if you're close enough) have helped a lot.

I'm at bonding level 4 or 5 with mine, so I really hope this one doesn't die on me. I have been fortunate though and only a few scares but I might go back into the snow for a cooler horse.

One of these days I'm going to kill one of my horses running him into a tree....

Yep, I was innocently trying to get back on my horse, pressed triangle and before I knew it I was choking some guy.. let him go straight away but within about 30 seconds I had 4 people chasing me and 2 witnesses running off... in the ensuing escape I rode Trigger head long into a tree and he died... then I died...

... I miss Trigger.

I named the one I bought....then the damn bounty hunters shot him (and me)...I haven't named any of the others.

I need to engage in a little more 'frivolity' before I spend that much on a horse.

A Time To Die....

If I had a title for last night's game session it would be that. I died. Lots. Mostly from random triggered events that involved gang members trying to kill me. One encounter was on a bridge that I needed to cross for a mission, The O'Driscoll's had it blocked off, warned me away, I tried to go around and then they started shooting at me, got into a huge firefight and lost. I also got jumped riding up a hill by bad guys on horses, because I had just got done with a battle, I was low on everything and died fast. I won lots of times too, so there was some balance. I helped a man defend his house from raiders and there were other choice encounters

This game definitely doesn't hold your hand, and I love that about it. I did get the free firearm for sucking the out the poison on the dude's leg. I chose the Hunting Rifle as it had the highest value at $120, then customized the stock with a nice Eagle engraving, I definitely want to customize it more when I have more money, I played around with the options and you can get a pretty unique looking weapon, the customization is a nice touch.

I got eaten by an alligator (twice) trying to cross this river/dunes. Horse bolted me off. I only have $11 left as I spent most riding around on the trains to see the different towns. Back at camp now and paid off bounty fees at the post office so I am free at last. I will try and do more of the missions as I am slowly getting used to the gun fights. Enjoying it so far.

Just saw the end credits. What a masterpiece this is. And as I was watching it, I was thinking to myself how games, and particularly story driven games, have come such a long way.

I didn't want it to end. I lost count to how many times I was left speechless and in awe of what I was watching / playing. I confess there were also a couple of moments that brought a tear to my eye, such is the quality of the story, voice acting, motion capture and overall realistic mood of the cutscenes.

I've always liked and played GTA games, since they were in 2D. But RDR2 is on a completely different level, even compared to GTA V IMO.

I won't spoil anything but I'll just ask you not to skip the end credits (yeah, some people do that ^^). It's worth your time. Also, there's someone in there who played guitar, keyboard, bass... "and all kinds of weird instruments". ^^

I can now say this is GoTY for me. I think the deciding factor for me is the historically grounded (and accurate replication) of the world and the story.

If GOW wins though, that's great too. It deserves.

I’m guessing you can skip to the end credits somehow.

Surely you haven’t finished the storyline yet?

How so? I didn't continue playing after the credits and it looks like the story ends. At least the main one.

Iif it's because of the time. I had all the time in the world to play it since launch. :)

 Wow!

Game over in less than a week.
Wow, just wow!!!

I can stay months without playing games and then when a game I really want to play comes out, I devour it in a week or so. Dark Souls 3 lasted me 4 or 5 days (with a long weekend in between). Same for Spider Man, GoW, TLoU, etc.

But I didn't hunt a lot in RDR2. I'll be doing that now, without the constant "I want to know what happens next" feeling.

I don't like to prolong these types of games for too long. If you take days between missions, you lose a lot of the connection to the story and characters. But I'm aware most people can't or don't want to play through this game like I did. All good. :) What's important is that one enjoys the play time.

@zzz_pt Well done in finishing it. Just to clarify did you complete every yellow marker i.e speak to him/her to finish it. I seem to be a bit confused with side missions and the main story now I am wondering about. Cheers 👍

My honor bar or whatever you want to call it is almost all the way to the left and fully red. Most of my interactions with strangers out on the road are pretty negative, and before I even pull a gun on them it's like they know I am evil.

I'm wondering if this has changed my gameplay experience in main missions because some of the gang members have been more negative towards me with more negative comments. This could just be where I'm at in the game, but I don't think it is, since I'm not super far in.

I think my guy needs to change for the better. He's rolling in the dough right now from his past dealings so I have no reason to rob and kill anymore for 3x repeater ammo, a cigarette, and 53 cents. But it's just so...fun.

Yep, all yellow markers and I think most of the white ones (side missions). Some of them would disappear if I started another main mission. Some would reappear later, other I don't think so. But yeah, yellow ones are the ones that drive the story. :)

I think I am this way. I don't want it to end because I enjoy this adventure so much. I wish that there was more permanent homesteads or more elaborate things to make the experience that much more immersive. Like I wish there was some kind of "trophy room" to display some of the biggest or most unique animals I've hunted. Almost Deer Hunter-esque. I also don't want to see the game time progress, which I know is inevitable. But I think that will just end up as online specifics (like tommy guns or model A cars).

I acquired the Arabian horse earlier today. Pretty cool replacement for my Thoroughbred Race horse, but it was definitely difficult to get. Some wolves I was unprepared for and tracking it in the snow took a lot of time after it kept running away hah.

I'm still savoring LOZ: BOTW and it just bugs my son lol, he plays games just like @zzz_pt does. He destroyed Zelda in a two weeks, it would have been faster but we limit his screen time as any parent should. He was the same with Hyrule Warriors. When he starts a book, he marathon reads it until he is done, even if it's 400 pages. That's just how his is, he devours story driven things. I like to savor everything. I like being immersed in a world for as long as I can.

At what point in the game can you actually start roaming the map in your own and exploring the place? I’m at the start which has to be one of the worst opening few hours of any games I’ve played and need to know when the boredom will end so I can play the game as I intended.

You can do that pretty early in the game but the last area of the map will only be available late game (and I mean, pretty late). But I'd say you're free to do whatever you want pretty soon. :)

Wow...👍

Rockstar Games released on Friday, Oct. 26

  • Over $725 million in worldwide sales in the first three days
  • Most preordered full game on the PlayStation Network
  • Biggest day one full game sales on the PlayStation Network
Rockstar also says that with over $725 million in sales, Red Dead 2 is the second highest-grossing entertainment launch of all time. What's No. 1? Grand Theft Auto V another game made by Rockstar, which earned $1 Billion in sales during its first three days.

Although, Rockstar still says Red Dead 2 has the highest-grossing opening weekend, which is technically correct since GTA V was released on a Tuesday -- so its $1 billion launch occurred during weekdays.

Excellent. Good to know. Hopefully they’ll be a cheat at some point to unlock the final area earlier because I can’t see myself completing the story if it’s 60 hours long.

I'm at bonding level 4 or 5 with mine, so I really hope this one doesn't die on me.

Think I'm around level 5 or 6 with my main horse. I've decided to leave him safe and sound in a stable for now, though. Just using the standard horse that Arthur gets at the beginning of the game. Not going to be too concerned if that one dies or gets killed.

What's been the best selling game of the year, so far? Interesting to see in RDR2 can crack the top selling games list with only a couple of months of 2018 left.
