Regarding SOPA and GT planet

Apparently the SOPA bill was refused. I would like to post a link of a trusted source to comfirm this to you guys, but I'm afraid I can't provide one.

It's not over yet though, January 24th, PIPA bill fate will be decided.

Really admire your action Jordan, I have now more respect for the GTPlanet community.

PIPA probably will lose a lot of fire of the next few days. Many politicians are backing out saying that this isn't something they wholeheartedly think they can back. I liken it to political suicide possibly. Good chance that many of these politicians won't be re-elected if they push it through and fail to show any of the benefits (which may or may not exist).

Agree, they wouldn't want bad publicity for the next elections.
Power to the people! :dopey:

It's a sad matter, and it has been disturbing my mind for a long time, but now that we won the 1st round, things are looking brighter. :)

Yeah and I had a lot of stuff for my PC backed up on that website. I'm really angry. I just lost a lot of stuff that I didn't have room for on my HDD.

In fairness, that's the risk you take when using a website like that.

Unfortunate for you perhaps, but like I said, you ran the risk and now you and others have lost out.

Lovely cost/benefit analysis.

On Jan. 18th there is going to be an all-out strike on the internet.

Ah, maybe you missed the part where having this so called privilege of freedom of speech is world wide.?

You protest for your freedom of speech, a least you have that option to protest. ;)

I'm sorry, but this whole thing is just silly.

Agreed. If there was any thing substantial to these acts they would be held up in court for decades as the free speech Vs Piracy debate went on. Any the US senate trying to instigate them...Ha! If they wanted to do it they would have already. Guess they run out of funding?!

I understand.

But instead of taking the murderers off the street and whatnot, what do they do?

They try to pass some Mickey Mouse law.

You do realise that the police and congress are two totally different things right?

And that Homicide detectives have nothing to do with cyber crimes unless they are involved in a murder case?

Oddly, the bill to make murder illegal isn't due to go before Congress until June.

I obviously know murder is illegal, it just burns my ass knowing they're spending time on this crap instead!

I think he means that the FBI spent time investigating megaupload, and doing these raids to shut it down, when they could have been chasing down a murder.

But I do not think he knows how large the FBI really is, with their man power they can do all most anything, and with just a very very small group of agents they shut down a website that was being abused.

^^Yes.

But I do know how big it is. It's just THAT many more people that could be studying a murder case instead of something petty like this.

I was unaware that a potentially eight-figure theft could be considered petty...

It's a shame there wasn't a one week warning, it's like shutting down a parking lot with cars still there.

That's awful! Government didn't seem to realize that there where actually legal users of MegaUpload.....Can you file a complaint? because basically the government has "stolen" your data by shutting the site down.

Yesterday i needed to download a Mod for rFactor and modders commonly put the mods on MegaUpload, now theres no way for me to get the mod. Media Fire wont let anybody upload it there for me because the file is too big...

Yes, tell the criminals a week ahead of time, I'm sure they wouldn't do anything like destroy the evidence or anything before you executed the raid.

As far as I'm aware (from what I've seen in videos), essentially the same thing but it has been worded in a way to make it seem as though it isn't as harsh.

So it's still just as harsh, but reworded? :odd:

Same exact problem here.

As Justin said earlier, it's a risk people took when using MegaUpload. Whether or not someone used it for personal, legal reasons, we all were aware of how much illegal stuff was also on there.

I don't believe there are file size limitations on DropBox...
