Remember when GT sport allowed tuning in sport races?

If we must have actual tuning (not just tyre choice and say downforce) then i'd replace race 1 not 2 or 3.

I'd be fine if they limited it to Race A. I spend more time driving road cars anyway, so Race A is my go-to in Sport Mode.

So, they don't tune cars at all in real life racing to get an edge? Interesting.

So the driver crawls under the car with a socket wrench and tunes the car in real life? Probably not.

But what's the point? It just slows you down to get racing, so it drives nicer, drives nicer for everyone, we are back where started except extra steps now.
That doesn't make any sense at all. I could do Race A/B, and once I'm done enter into the very next race, and have enough time to implement an entire tune, suspension/transmission, everything, while having potentially enough time to do one flying lap depending on how long the course lap is.

So the driver crawls under the car with a socket wrench and tunes the car in real life? Probably not.

His team does, under the drivers direction. Point is, SM should be as similar to real life racing as possible. If you can tune a car, great. If not, go find a tune and take 30 seconds to apply it. Easy peasy.

Once you set a tune for a particular car and track you have the option to save that tune in your garage, each car can have I think it is up to 11 tunes saved at one time.

So it is not like you have to set a tune every time you race a car, once you have a tune you like on a car for a circuit saved it is only a matter of a few seconds to apply that tune to the car and go racing.

So where is this constantly slowing down the jumping into a race on a regular basis for an excuse to not allow tuning now?

If they were only going to allow tuning for 1 race make it race C.

I guess those who claim to have so little time do not race those as much as they are to long and consume more time than they have available.

So the driver crawls under the car with a socket wrench and tunes the car in real life? Probably not.

Even back when I was street drag racing it was not unusual to change rear springs, and use shocks with better rates for weight transfer in the search for better even traction.

Was also not unusual to make modifications to a street car front suspension to be able to raise the front end height again in the search for better weight transfer in association with a torsion bar front suspension and still maintain castor and camber adjustments for driveabilty and tire wear.

I could go to a Direct Connection Mopar dealer and buy factory rear springs that even compensated for torque twist to deliver even traction force to both rear tires and this was a factory Chrysler Corporation high performance parts division.

So yes I have back in my younger years back in the stone ages been known to be under a car with a socket wrench tuning and adjusting a cars suspension.

What do you think the race teams are doing all week back at the shop, just throwing darts?

I know nothing about game developing. How difficult could it be to have duplicate A,B,C events one set no tuning second set tuning allowed?
That shouldn't be to much trouble for PDI to uncheck fixed tuning on one set and click load the events twice.

... and then players who don't visit message boards for the most recent tunes get left in the dust. No thank you, I'd rather have as many valid competitors as possible. It's bad enough people are chasing meta picks for the cars, tuning just doubles that research game. All so people can play pretend mechanic with a bunch of settings that will likely never be fully balanced out.

Hey, I like playing pretend!

We'll just have to agree to disagree buddy.

Tuning has been such an integral part of the Gran Turismo series. I still don't get how people can be so against it, especially if it's something that's meant to enhance the performance of cars that badly need it. Tuning isn't just about making a car faster and lighter. Honestly, it shouldn't even be about that at all. It should be about tweaking things to ensure that you get the most out of a car's ability to race while keeping it honest (i.e. no mileage upgrades). They could totally lock out the power/weight upgrade fields and I'd be fine with that. But if I hate how a car has a tendency to understeer, I should be able to make the necessary tweaks to get it to behave (or utilize the information that people have shared in the Tuning forum). There's a wealth of information readily available that could benefit from the enhanced usage.

So much truth in this thread now <3

Tuning between laps or sets of laps is a constant in all racing. The driver communicates to the mechanics and engineers what’s happening and they try to adjust to compensate. Power and weight are so regulated that everyone is searching for that little edge over their competitors. With every driver being slightly different this drives an awareness of the car and what is truly happening on the track. Tuning can allow a more immersive feeling in the game. I’ve missed it in sport and I’m happy to see it’s return. If you don’t want to tune, drive it stock. You may or may not still beat me, but I will be enjoying the game even more.

If people aren't willing to take 2 minutes to find a simple tune, that's called being lazy. No one is forcing you to have tunes, and by the way, there are still people who are faster than me with their fixed setups versus my actual setups.

Meta picks for cars can be less effective with tuning enabled, outside of the Gr.X, err I mean, Gr.4 Megane Trophy. You could look at the Alfa Romeo manufacturer rankings right now versus, say, Porsche or Chevrolet, where there are far more of those drivers than there are in my manufacturer, where only 26 are shown at the moment. That said, my 4C can be up there with all the other cars with tuning, making a more even playing field, which is what some argue against tuning by saying it "levels the playing field."

And valid competitors? In all of my Sport Mode races I've ever done, the ones where tuning was allowed were by far and away more clean than the fixed ones are, so that statement can be rendered false, not only for me, but for a number of other people potentially. Tuning doesn't even double any research, so I don't know where you're getting that from.

Pretend mechanic :lol::lol::lol:
You're playing a game where you can pretend to be a professional racer, driving pretend race cars, on pretend racing tracks based on real life or not, all while also playing with pretend opponents.

Messing with numbers has always been part of GT for me, talking 20 years here :O Taking it away makes me feel as if something is missing :(

I really don’t see why it has to be an all or nothing scenario, having one of the three races as tuning friendly really such a bad thing?

It's not like you can do all three races in the time it takes to do one of them multiple times, anyway. Those complaining about even one race having tuning haven't presented a strong argument against it, which is really infuriating considering how much more traffic Sport Mode would get if they simply did this.

No, it's called wanting to race instead of using ancillary resources to remain competitive. People shouldn't have to reach outside of the game to be competitive racers. It's bad for the community to require extra steps of engagement that aren't supported by or reinforced internally by the game. Additionally, LARPing a tune in the game doesn't really do anything other than make a gap between tune noodlers and people who just want to race.

2 minutes? You're being ridiculously facetious as that 2 minutes doesn't take into account actually applying the tune, testing the tune, and verifying that it works against your own driving style before making final adjustments. Hell, 12 minutes prior to a race barely covers that time. I swear, the next person to argue with me is going to say it takes 30 seconds to find a tune.

I had to laugh as here we all are, mainly adults on a forum discussing a game where WE ALL ARE BEING PRETEND RACE CAR DRIVERS!

Sorry, I didn't mean to insult you by stating the obvious. Yes, it's all pretend, but at least the driving concepts carry over better to the real world.

You don't have to use a tune. I literally said this in my post. It's also not extra steps if you don't use them, so there's nothing to gain by arguing about that.

I use setups from Praino and MINIKL a good bit because I trust their tunes enough to where I can implement them immediately and test while racing. After that I make slight adjustments (ie. LSD) so it completely fits my style. When I was looking for a tune for the Toyota TS030 Hybrid, I put that on YouTube and was the very first result. It actually did take 30 seconds maximum to find that tune.:lol::lol: Add around another minute or so confirming the proper settings and it comes out to a whopping two minutes.

I'm on the fence. I know what works for me and what doesn't for the most part as far as suspension setup goes, and some tracks need a little adjustment in the final drive to get the most out of a car. I think there is a fine line between "tuning", which implies modifications or tweaks/hacks that might not be easily available to everyone, and "setup" which I think is what most of us would like to be unlocked a little. I'd like a little leeway on suspension setup, and aero when it applies, and maybe a couple of options for the final drive. I feel strongly that maintaining BoP is critical, though. I'd rather spend my time racing than trying to "tune" my way past someone.
Final thought- a "tune" should not allow the car to vastly exceed it's normal performance- i.e. no transmission tweaks, etc.

tell to f1 drivers (u can meet Esteban Ocon on lobbies in GTS) or to any other real series driver to forbid changing settings in their cars

or even tell that to drivers from best gaming simulators

they would laugh hard at you all

tuning is huge part of racing, whether you like it or not

if you not want tunes go and play Drive Club
this is the right game for all that guys I think ;)

if Sport Mode wanna be considered seriously Polyphony MUST to allow tunes in future

especially in that Manufacturer and Nation Cups because there is time (3 days) to prepare a car
and if you wanna be best you should be best in all parts of racing not only with exploiting track limits

Basically in a BoP race the HP, weight and aero and ride height would be locked. Rear drive ratio changes would be very limited.

I have no problems if all the settings had limits of a plus or minus certain percentage from the base tune to still keep things under control.
This percentage amount could apply to all available adjustments.

At that point a car could be tweaked to better negotiate a certain circuit or fit a drivers style but would not drastically alter the Bop.

Also what a lot of people seem to not realize or understand is the closer a cars base tune is optimized to a track the less improvement that can be gained if any at all by making changes to the adjustments.

Where tuning helps is to allow a car that has a base tune that is just off on a particular track to overcome its set up shortcoming to be competitive with the other cars in the class.

I actually like BoP and my ideal scenario with tuning is not to ruin the BoP but to be able to tweak a car I like to drive because I enjoy the cars driving characteristics but if that car is lacking on that circuit to be able to improve the car to be competitive.

I do not want to see tuning be allowed that allows far out changes that are not realistic either.

Keep the changes minimal but effective and everyone can be happy. The changes for those that tune will not be drastic where the non tuners will not have box stock car choices that are not competitive. Nobody loses!

How are non tuners competitive and yet you want tuning to overcome issues the car has at certain tracks. Someone's losing and it's the guy with no time to tune.

I don't know, why don't you ask the guys who can get consistent 1:53s at Maggiore with Gr.3 Racing Hards in Sport Mode? I can't even do that with tuning.

No because the non tuner is going to continue to pick the fastest car to race on that track.
As that car already has a good tune for the circuit there very well can be no appreciable gains to be had by tuning that car.

The tuner on the other hand likes the car that is just not good on that circuit and rather be forced to switch to a different car in the call to be competitive he wants to be able to tweak the car he prefers to be competitive.

Does not mean it will be dominate just now able to keep up and be competitive.

And if the excuse that tuning should not be allowed because some people do not have the time to tune why punish all the players because of someone's schedule difficulties?

I would tend to be of the opinion that most that want tuning unlocked really do not care about how much free time someone has in their daily schedule and would not consider that a legitimate reason to exclude or lock part of their game they have plenty and ample time for.

That is a really weak and pitiful excuse.

Some additional thought- personal example: I really like the Mustang in Gr.4. Good view out, pretty neutral. Decent power delivery with the N/A motor, great top end. The problem is, it feels like it's tires are a half-compound harder than everything else. I'd like a little less toe-in on the rear, and a little more decel on the diff. I think it is usually under-geared; 2nd is almost always too low, so I'd go a touch higher on the final drive. I'd like to tweak the camber a bit. IMO, that is "setup".
I really am an old guy with a day job, and I have pretty limited time to race. I have time to apply those kinds of changes. I don't have either the time or the interest to chase crazy hack-y tweak-y "move the final drive slider up and down three times and readjust all the gears" crap.

This falls right in with my idea of what tuning should be and consist of.
Not make a car to be something it is not but to emphasize it positive traits to a reasonable and realistic degree to make it a better car to compete in the class with.

But now i have to go in and set the car up to my liking to get back even with you. Just wastes time.

In GR4 what he is referring to most drivers that complain no time and do not want tuning would just be one of those that would check the top 10 ten times and grab the Megane Trophy to enter the race with.

Are you concerned that now the Megane may not be OP compared to the adjusted Mustang and the Mustang will now actually be competitive on the track?

Because that is what the tune adjustments you referred to in your post will accomplish and nothing more

Huh?? I have used the Megane once, with tuning all that happens now is most of the Megane's remains faster than me but the guy that chose the Huracan/Ferrari/Viper or whatever) like i did now has his car setup better and i have to do the same to compete with him.
