Remember when GT sport allowed tuning in sport races?

Huh?? I have used the Megane once, with tuning all that happens now is most of the Megane's remains faster than me but the guy that chose the Huracan/Ferrari/Viper or whatever) like i did now has his car setup better and i have to do the same to compete with him.
You’re in a Megane Trophy, that’s already enough to compete with him.

I think the point that tuning fans miss is, this is a RACING game. Not a garage simulator, not a virtual socket wrench collection game. A RACING game. Primarily, it tests one driver against another.

One of the things that drivers do is adapt. Car a bit understeery? Adapt. Car steps out a lot. Adapt. Torque curve weird? Adapt.

For me, the emphasis on tuning flattens the whole experience. Yes, sure, you can go out and get a tune someone else worked on, and turn a car with understeer into something neutral. Or a car with snap oversteer is turned into a mild pussycat. But where's the fun in driving that? Where does that challenge you?

There's room for both kinds of fun. But if you approach this game as a driver, learning how to deal with a car's inherent handling characteristics, and challenging other drivers to do the same is what makes you a driver...

No, we totally get that this is a racing game. We understand that every bit as much as stock players. Many of us have been playing Gran Turismo for 20 years, so there's no need to even go there.

Honestly, who's to say that tuning a car can't be fun or that it doesn't present its own sets of challenges? And who's to say that finding the perfect tune for a particular car and testing it out until the specs are just right can't be rewarding, either?

It adds an extra layer of depth to the game. Sport Mode would be more interesting for me if I was allowed to set up a car how I wanted instead of just using some crappy default setup. It's sad that so many in this community are intimidated by it and yet it's commonplace in every other serious racer out there.

Some tuners don’t seem to care about anybody but themselves. It’s inherent that a person who sets up his AMG GT3 with optimal setting for a track (including Aero, Suspension, Gearing, LSD) is going to have an inherently faster car than someone using the default tune that isn’t specialized for the track of the day.

Think of people who are incredibly busy or have a 9-5 job with a family. They might not have time to set up a car every night for the daily race, meaning they’d be hopping into the daily race with the default setup. They’re going to be driving a car with worse performance than your same model of car with a different setup.

Tuning allows people sometimes even scrape entire seconds out of a car in qualifying over a default setup. What part of that is fair to the non-tuner? I see people on this thread who are tuners basically undervaluing the opinions of non-tuners or people who don’t have time to tune their cars.

Sure it adds depth, but the practice of open tuning also allows for an uneven playing field between people who have the optimal setup versus the people who have an “everyman” setup.

Literally the only way to stop this from happening is not allowing tuning at all. I’m all for that. It just doesn’t sit well with the games tag line “Driving is for everyone.”

I don’t know about selfish. Many of us have suggested compromises on ways tuning can be fairly implemented (power/weight caps or complete lockouts, no tramission tweaks, etc.). Also, I’m more for tuning less powerful road cars since those are in more need of it than stock Gr. 1/2/3/B.

I like this community a lot, but I’ve encountered some very unsupportive stances that equate to little more than “suck it up.” Also, there’s a little bit of elitism too, as illustrated by a negative attitude toward tuners in general. Maybe I’m reading into this all wrong, but that’s just how it seems to me.

You don't even play Sport Mode at all. I checked your KudosPrime and you've only entered 7 races.

I did a bunch in the beta and I basically abandoned Sport Mode when they updated the penalty system. If they counted beta races and times I’ve been disconnected (once at Dragon Trail and one ragequit at Le Mans), it would be around 20+.

Rest assured I will return once the penalty system shenanigans are sorted.

I still don’t see how that discredits my opinion. I have taken part in it, so I’m not spouting baseless garbage. It just seems like more eliteism on your part.

Basically in a BoP race the HP, weight and aero and ride height would be locked. Rear drive ratio changes would be very limited.

I have no problems if all the settings had limits of a plus or minus certain percentage from the base tune to still keep things under control.
This percentage amount could apply to all available adjustments.

At that point a car could be tweaked to better negotiate a certain circuit or fit a drivers style but would not drastically alter the Bop.

Also what a lot of people seem to not realize or understand is the closer a cars base tune is optimized to a track the less improvement that can be gained if any at all by making changes to the adjustments.

Where tuning helps is to allow a car that has a base tune that is just off on a particular track to overcome its set up shortcoming to be competitive with the other cars in the class.

I actually like BoP and my ideal scenario with tuning is not to ruin the BoP but to be able to tweak a car I like to drive because I enjoy the cars driving characteristics but if that car is lacking on that circuit to be able to improve the car to be competitive.

I do not want to see tuning be allowed that allows far out changes that are not realistic either.

Keep the changes minimal but effective and everyone can be happy. The changes for those that tune will not be drastic where the non tuners will not have box stock car choices that are not competitive. Nobody loses!

Have you even bothered to read that many agree and want to keep BoP intact and the adjustments would be very limited in scope not add seconds to a cars time with what would be allowed?

Read my post from a page or so back and then drop all the aero and ride height, major gearing that would not be opened up if done right.
Think of people who are incredibly busy or have a 9-5 job with a family. They might not have time to set up a car every night for the daily race,

And actually once you find a set up you like for a track you can save it along with about ten others per car so after initial set up it only takes about a minute or so to apply the tune.

SPORT MODE is the part of the site where all activities are RACING RELATED.
Tuning and setting up a car for maximum performance while remaining within the allowed rules of the race is a part of every organized racing series on the planet.
No where am I aware that you got to your local dealer buy a new car off the showroom floor and you race what you got the way it is.

You want a DRIVING EXPERIENCE go to time trials and ride around and enjoy the scenery! You want to race then you should need to do what a racer does and set up their cars to be the best they can be and stay in the rules. not hard to understand the differences in driving and racing and tuning is part of those differences.

IF your schedule does not allow you time to devote to the game how or why should those without those limitations not be able to use that part of their game. It is not their fault for your time limitations and they would like to use all the content that is within the game and should be able to.
Your time limitations are your problem period.

In GR4 what he is referring to most drivers that complain no time and do not want tuning would just be one of those that would check the top 10 ten times and grab the Megane Trophy to enter the race with.

Are you concerned that now the Megane may not be OP compared to the adjusted Mustang and the Mustang will now actually be competitive on the track?

Because that is what the tune adjustments you referred to in your post will accomplish and nothing more
You’re in a Megane Trophy, that’s already enough to compete with him.

Are you guys intentionally ignoring what I write or just reading too fast?

No, I am in the huracan (or viper, or Ferrari) so now I have fast meganes to deal with and faster tuned huracans, ferraris and vipers.

Not intimidated at all. In project cars one I tuned to great detail, and that along with other factors meant I raced at barely half the rate I do in sport.

The entire point of sport is to race quickly, that's the entire premise. Start adding g too many variables and it detracts from that core function. Join lobbies or the fia races, tune away, but the point of sport is to jump on and race.

I could handle brake bias, aero and tyre choice but that's it, nothing else.

You're in the Huracan? Well, I put in "huracan gr4 tune gt sport" on YouTube and the second result already has a setup.
Ferrari or Viper? Jeje happens to have setups for both gr4 cars.

You can't even do tuning in the FIA races, as ridiculously stupid as that sounds.

So where did you come up with that as the focus or definition of Sport Mode.

Race quickly , there are races starting every 10-15 minutes so the ability to get in a race quickly is definitely available pretty much 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Please show me where not spending time to practice or learn the track or even to be able to get the most performance within the rules out of your car but just race quickly should grant you a ticket to be able to run in first place and possibly win over someone that has put in time to get the best performance out of his driving and the best performance out of the car he uses even if your real world schedule precludes you from getting the most out of the game it has to offer?

Well I guess maybe skipping one night entering races to get your car of choice tuned up within the rules would be in order if tuning was opened up. You would be doing nothing the other racers did not do and they have enough interest in the game they spend the time.

And guess what, news flash! The time they spent tuning and tweaking their ride they could have been racing instead during that time spent working on the car as well so you are not at any more of a disadvantage in the game time spent tuning than they are at.

Again if game time for you is that limited then it is still hard to blame the other players of the game you cannot figure a way to play more within your schedule.

Still think limited tuning would be awesome and add a lot to Sport Mode that is currently lacking. Racing the same tracks and same cars week after week in the dailies needs some new fresh challenges to keep it interesting.

But if we all tune our cars to the maximum wouldn't that just be like racing without tuning anyway.

There's no such thing as tuning cars to the maximum, unless you're talking about max HP/min weight. There's also no such thing as a perfect setup.

I understand where your coming from but compared to the driving aids readily available that have a huge impact on making a difficult car easy to drive, and these are alot easier and so much faster (in terms of switching them on/off - compared to spending hours fine tuning a setup) - I don't think tuning has anywhere near as much impact.

It's also a huge challenge to tune, especially if you are a 'tuner' and trying to cater for different drivers / driving styles. Or if you're trying to adapt a 'tune' from one track / condition / car caterory (i.e. N400 to N600) to another - if you think this is easy, open your own tuning garage and see how much 'work' this is.

True, some tuners are like that, but look at the tuning section of GTP over the past 3/4 GT games, there's a huge amount of tunes and information being shared - that's just GTP, there's also other websites where you can find info too.

I guarantee you there' also tuners who would happily help out people in private lobbies, aslong as you're not a 🤬, some tuners will give out info or entire setups to a complete stranger in a private lobby.

Even if you do have little time on your hands, it's not too hard to get help, info or a setup.

Compare this to people who have alot of time to practice, to those who don't - isn't it the same scenario as 'tuning'. How many times do you see some really fast people talk about learning a track and then keep practicing it to shave off some 10th's or more?

But if we all tune our cars to the maximum wouldn't that just be like racing without tuning anyway.

No. Tuning isn't just about going faster, it's also about making cars which aren't suited to you more suitable, so tuning would help increase diversity in races - like it was on Tuesday @ Brands.

There was a huge diversity of cars being used throughout the day, all the cars I used were cars which I was using for the first time in any daily race.

There's no such thing as tuning cars to the maximum, unless you're talking about max HP/min weight. There's also no such thing as a perfect setup.

Yes and no - there's a perfect set for 'you' (for one car / track), if you know what your doing and have time to fine tune, but there's no guarantee that what's perfect for you will work for any / every one else or in every circumstance. Driving styles, view (cockpit Vs chase cam for example) even steering / sensitivity settings will all have some kind of impact on how a setup transfers from one person to the next, whereas grip levels / track conditions, bumps / kerbs will mean it's unlikely one setup will work for all or even another track.

But with so many tuning sheets available for each car, it certainly helps to transfer from one situation to another by providing a base from which to start from..

The thing is though, doing setups is an integral part of racing. That's why it's commonplace everywhere else. Without it Sport mode just feels dumbed down.

I don't believe the entire point of sport mode to race quickly either, maybe if you only play Race A & B, but Race C? No. Sport mode is also there to bring a more authentic racing experience too, that's what Race C does.

BTW, Tuning in GTS is far simpler than tuning in Project Cars. Some of the parameters are tiny and are only meant for fine tuning. You can't even adjust tire & brake pressures. Even Forza has more in depth tuning.

You know I did make a very untrue statement earlier and I apologize.
I had said,
"Tuning and setting up a car for maximum performance while remaining within the allowed rules of the race is a part of every organized racing series on the planet.
No where am I aware that you go to your local dealer buy a new car off the showroom floor and you race what you got the way it is."

That statement is not correct as is and to make it correct the following should be added to the end of the statement.

EXCEPT FOR THE CURRENT EDITION OF GTS SPORT MODE WHERE THE TUNING OPTIONS ARE LOCKED!

SO NOW IT IS FIXED AND CORRECT!👍

Yeah, looks like suspension and gearing are tunable.
Tuning is available today in sport mode ? Would be a nice moment to dig up some threads about tuning. Usually when people complain about the lack of something, you dont hear them anymore when it is “fixed”.

To me it is not so important, but I hope it works well and am interested how it feels.

Tuning is available today in sport mode ?

It's allowed in today's N300 C daily. I ran it just now with one of the meta cars, the X-Bow. IMO, allowing tuning is not a great idea. Despite using a popular tuner's settings on one of the meta cars ( X-Bow ) I got literally eaten alive down that long straight by folks who obviously had a better trans setup. It wasn't all the draft either, I'd get right up on someone's bumper and by the time we were out of the tunnel they were pulling away.

The ratings gremlins were out in force, too. I dropped 3 positions, got 2 5-second penalties ( one my fault, one not ) yet my SR went up, and my DR went up over 400 points.

So adjust the cars gearing ;) :p the other option of course is to go and race in A or B events that still have have fixed settings...

More people getting triggered over one race getting tuning out of three? Again, like I’ve pointed out earlier in the thread, there is no way you can do all three races in the time it takes to do one multiple times.

I agree in principal but for me anyway, this game is short decent tracks and i struggle to find any of the three races each night to be something I enjoy.
