Really? Damn, i tried that bit but the kept killing ashley! I thought i had to kill him, never thought about just running past! :D

Anyway, i went the other way and killed all the ganados. Took a couple of tries but i eventually killed all the crazy chainsaw ladies. :)

Thanks, I might check it out some time. Is Project Zero Fatal Frame 1 or a sequel?
1 and 2 are available. 2 is sub-titled Crimson Butterfly I think.

Finally got Resi 4 after 2 weeks waiting :grumpy: (thanks Mr Customs 👍 ).
Anyway, so far really enjoying it except for one thing, the crappy controls. Honestly does Capcom think we're still in the 90's. For a Special Agent Leon is useless. He can't even walk backwards and shoot, turn round whilst aiming or look around corners. He must be smoking something because he can't even turn to his left or right at any speed.
I know why Capcom did it. With such controls you are very likely to panic and be smothered by scythe wielding psychos. It's a rather basic and simplistic way to increas the difficulty of the game. I could think of several ways to improve the control of the main character. But maybe it will make the game too easy? Well I guess I'll get used to it. But nowadays it should be better than this (it is with Capcoms Devil May Cry, though that is a different kind of game).
Griping aside I am liking it a lot. Only been playing for an hour or so. Long way to go yet!

I just played this exact part of the game. I use Ashley as a distraction. Since I have her in the suit of armor, the El Gigante picks her up and can't do any harm to her at all. Is quite funny to watch.

I feel the exact same way. They make the controls this difficult to increase the panic factor, but it's far more frustrating then a panic. It also reduces the fun factor of the game when you play through it more than once. After once through, you pretty much know what's going to happen, where and when. So, with the horrible controls, it really hinders your enjoyment of the game.

They should have "Special Moves" that you can unlock after the first time through. This way, they get their "Panic" factor in, and we get the controls we want.

My explanation for this is because RE has always been a bad horror game. It's the weakest in it's genre IMO.

The reason I think this is because it rely's very heavily on "jump out and scare you" tactics, and only uses the slow control as a means to instill panic in you. Other than that, RE has never had any "scary" moments.

Silent Hill + Fatal Frame > RE as far as fear factor.

Being mentally afraid of something, that you CAN'T see, or just being afraid in general, is so much better than "YIKES! THAT CAME OUT OF NO WHERE!"

Suit of armour? Lol.

Anyway, i'm on that bit where you fight tha totally demented monster in those hanging cages if you know what i mean, somewhere in chapter five i think, after the cut scene with Krauser.

I would'nt say RE is totally reliant on "jump out" scare tactics. It certainly does'nt frighten me if it does. "Resi 4" is certainly atmospheric and is better than most of the earlier games for creating an unsettling atmosphere. Though it wears off after a while. To be honest few games have ever scared me. I do remember the first Resi giving me the willies and the first Silent Hill too (particularly Silent Hill for its sheer weirdness).
I guess I've become fairly inured to scary games. I feel Resi games are more a case of "Survival" than horror now. The horror part is fairly unimportant considering there are so many games on the market with supposed horror themes. Resi 4 strikes me as a more action/adventure game with a fair amount of blood and gore. That's why it would've been nice to see controls reflect this by being more responsive and user friendly like, say, MGS3. But old habits die hard for Capcom, a bit like zombies!
Still, I am getting better at the controls now. I just have to kill 40 villagers at the abandoned house without dying to continue. That's a quite panicky moment in the game and very typical of the sense of panic that is at the real heart of Resi games. But the controls and constant dipping into and out of the inventory screen kinda kill it. Anyway, died twice...try again!

Can Ashley actually die if you tried to kill her yourself in that suit of armor? :odd: Like throw a grenade or shoot her with a rocket launcher?

Yeah, the suit of armor is an unlockable "Special Uniform 2" in the game that Ashley wears. I highly recommend using if for the Pro level.

I didn't say it relies on "jump out" tactics, but it does happen and it startles you, not "frighten you." I always love those moments in RE games, but RE4 has a lot more going for it than just that. Past RE titles don't even come close to having the same "creep" or "scare" factor as RE4. But then, nothing does. I never was a fan of Silent Hill, or any other "horror" game. I don't know why. RE has always had what I'm looking for in a great game, which RE4 is despite having some problems. Of course, there are exceptions. RE:CVX for the PS2 was terrible. So were the titles that followed that one, but I've never played them.

I really hope they decide to switch from a frustrating control mess, to more of a traditional action/adventure based video game, as far as the controls of the main characters go.

That was easy for me, even on Pro level. Block the windows on the first floor. Shoot like mad, and wait for Luis to tell you to go upstairs. Once up there on the second floor, concentrate on knocking all the ladders down. Just walk back and forth, knocking those ladders down, and taking a litlle time to shoot the baddies and pickup what they leave behind.

Ashley can't die at all, no matter what you, or anything else, do to her. If you hit her with the rocket launcher, she'll fall down, and just get back up, with no injuries at all. Same goes for everything else you throw or aim at her. It's kind of funny to watch. Also, everytime you aim something at her, her helmet visor goes down. Once you stop aiming, it goes back up.

Wow she is totally invincible! Now I really regret not picking Special Costume 2 since the beginning of Professional Mode. Its ok for now since I am already far, I don't want to start over. :O

Not to rub it in, you can also use her as a shield. Move forward, tell her to stay put, move behind her and shoot away at the approaching baddies. Not only that, but you can use her to save ammo. Wait for a baddie to approach, they always grap her, yet once they do, she's so heavy because of the armor, they drop her and they fall to the floor giving you to opportunity to slice them up. Plus, during the time you play as her, the Knights can't hurt you at all. Just let them hit you, and watch them crumble. Same goes for the other guys you need to burn with the latterns. Just let them grab you.

I don't feel rubbed at all from you, just feel useful Ashley can be in that suit of armor instead of yelling, "LEON HELP!!!!" I think for my second run through of Resident Evil 4, I will use costume number 2 to experience some fun. :O

Just beat Krauser, that was a tough fight. Don't think i'm far from completing it now so i'm looking forward to playing through again.
I'm playing again, on pro level, just to get to the Krauser fight. In another forum website, somebody said you can easily beat Krauser with your knife. Even if you're on pro level.

He said to back up against any wall. Wait for Krauser to walk up slowly, and slice his head area. He wont ever take a swing at you, he'll never walk away for an attack. He'll just keep walking toword you giving you the repeated chance to slice his face. He can be taken down with just five to six slices.

I always shot at his knee to bring him down. Then, shoot his head while I had the chance. Repeat. So, I'm going to try the knife tactic. Makes sense to me since you had a knife fight with him earlier in the game.

Yeah, i thought about using the knife but decided to use my magnum. Tough fight, i went into it with just 1 handgun bullett, four magnum bulletts and 6 shotgun shells! Really had to spare my ammo in that one! :D

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

Using the knife on Krauser does work because I have done it and saved lots of ammos. :O

I use the knife trick in a different way though. I would get him to do back flips against one of the walls and start knifing him in a timely manner. Sometimes he would get a button sequence attack to go through and you would have to press those buttons. Then he would again do back flips in one place since he is against a wall. I will then begin knifing him again and repeating the process until he falls victim to the knife. :O

I started over to get to this fight to see if this attack tactic works. It didn't at first and I was about to give up. But, I remember that timing was important. It took a while to figure out the correct timing to swinging the knife. That was the only hard part. Now I know what to do to make this tactic work. Now, there's no reason to buy the TMP automatic pistol. In pro mode, it took about twelve to fourteen slices to finally do him in. This, plus a few rounds of 12 power level shotgun blasts and about four shots of 24 power level Broken Butterfly. Took me almost an hour to get the timing thing correct.

I picked up this game yesterday and I have just one thing to say "this is the best game I'ever played" period. I just met the baby looking guy in the castle, do I still have a long way to go before I finish the game? (please tell me I do)

Wonderful job capcom 👍

Oh heah, you're about 33% done. It's a very long-ass game, but it's still great. That little dude is Salazzar.

Oh, not to spoil anything, make sure you have the large case. That way, when the time comes, and it'll be soon for you, that you get a free rocket launcher, you'll have enough room to keep it. If you don't have the room for it, you wont be able to keep it. Don't use the rocket launcher until you get to the giant "hive" so you can destroy it with just one shot and collect your numerous prizes.

Make sure to save several frag (green) grenades for the last level, which is 6-1.Also, there will be a room outside the castle near a fountain that has a lot of crows on it. You wont be able to get in there without Ashley, so remember to go back there with her. Oh, use flash/stun (blue) grenades to kill the crows and collect the rewards. Even birds flying in the sky will fall down dead. Also, once a plegas reveals its self, the blue grenades will complete destroy it. Try to remember this usefull tip, because there are several times, I wont say when and blow it for you, in the game when this tactic will save ammo and your ass from getting hurt or killed.

Enjoy!

resident evil has come a long way check this out -> click me
Well, that was a "blast from the past."

Resident Evil was one of those games that was laughed at, and very much enjoyed. The Voice acting is so horrible, it's fantastic! It had its own unique character.

I only played the first one at a friend's house, who rented it. I remember that it didn't really impress me that much. I bought Resident Evil 2 at the same time I bought my Playstation, that game DID give me the jeeper creepers. That one definitely gave me a couple of near-heart attacks.

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

Resident Evil 1 was the one that started it for me. I didn't play it at first, only watched a relative play. The scene that started giving me nightmares for days is when the cerberus jumps through the window in that long L-shaped hallway. :scared:

Oh those Flash grenades are very handy. Unfortunately I sold the first 3 or so!

I've been too busy with work to play much. Got to the castle and now at the point where Ashley has been taken.
Bought the Broken Butterfly but can't find any ammo which is a shame as it's very handy. Still everytime you upgrade its max ammo you get free bullets (as with all the weapons I think).
Just reached the maze in the court yard. Don't like the look of it myself!

Yep, a classic. The zombie bursting out the wardrobe did it for me! I can remember virtually every scene. Wish I still had it!

You bought the Broken Butterfly? Oh man, you're going to kick yourself soon.

The maze is easy, but very scary. It's the most scary part of the game, I think. Just make sure you check your map often, and make sure your go everywhere. Hidden items and tresure chests are everywhere. Use your shotgun.

What's wrong with the broken butterfly? It's amazingly powerful. Mine's been upgraded to 50.0 for shot power! Sure, ammo is scarce but i only use it on bosses etc.

I have one too, even though it ain't neccessary for me to have it. It's a great handgun.

What I meant was, he was near the time in the game where he can get the BB for free. That's all.
