Well, finished it at last. Big game..huge compared to early Resi games. And a hell'uva lot of fun!

Now without jumping into the extra game modes I was wondering how best to start a new game using the cleared game data.
For example I have the Striker, Red9 and TMP at max but not with their final custom job. I have the Killer7 but only 2 upgrades in clip size. My Semi-Auto rifle is nearly complete too. I had a brief look at the weapons on starting. There's the Matilda which has burst fire and decent power and the Infinite Launcher, though I don't have the money for it (even if I sell everything).

What weapons have everybody elsed maxed out and use? I like the magnums but which is best the BB or Killer7? And should I complete (or try to!) the bonus game modes to unlock the extra weapons before re-starting?

Go complete Ada Ass first, then complete Seperate Ways. That will unlock the Tommy Gun, Special Uniform 1 and Special Uniform 2 for your second Leon game. Plus, you'll get the Tommy Gun for your second Seperate Ways game.

The Broken Butterfly is the pistol in the game. But, the Tommy Gun rules all.

Notice: In order to get the PRL 412 rifle, you'll need to play a brand new game on Pro level and complete it. It's hard, and not really worth it, but if I can do it, you can. You can't use any specialty weapons for your Pro game, but you can use the Special Uniforms. I STRONGLY suggest you use the Special Uniform 2 for Pro level. Ashley will be in a Suit of Armor, and you never have to worry about her safety or health. In fact, you can use her as a shield from the baddies which comes in handy when the crap hits the fan.

Oh, save your "Cleared Game" game save seperate from your second attempt. Same as with Seperate Ways. It's handy if you want to try a new game with a new uniform or weapon, because you wont get a new uniform or weapon unitl you start from the very beginning of your game.

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

I am now at the part where you have to fight Salazar in his mutated form on pro mode and I keep on dying. :indiff: I am thinking about buying a rocket launcher to see if it would finish the job. :O

Yeah, Salazar is a lot harder to beat in Pro mode. It takes more shots to his eye, and to his head to kill him. If you don't kill him quick, you'll have to dodge his attacks and that ain't easy to do.

I had to play that part of the game over, and over, and over again until I nailed him. The tactic I used was if you don't kill him before he makes a move, then just start over. There's a save point and a Merchant near this battle. It should be easy to stop and start over again.

Use the shotgun on his eye, three to four shots are needed with a full power Striker shotgun, then use the Broken Butterfly, full power, on his head once he opens up.

I'm currently coming to the end of my second play, i reloaded my cleared game so i would still have all the upgrades etc. Will i unlock anything when i finish it again?

Nope. When you complete it once, you unlock Ada Ass and Seperate Ways. I think you also unlock the Special Uniform 1, but I'm not sure. Only when you complete Seperate Ways do you get the Tommy Gun and Infinity Rocket Launcher and the second Spcl Uniform. Complete Ada Ass to unlock the Tommy Gun in Seperate Ways. Complete Leon game in Pro Level to get the PRL 412 rifle. Complete ALL Merc. games with five stars to unlock the handcannon.

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

I really think that Ada Wong deserves her own Resident Evil game. She have quite a mysterious background that I am sure every RE fan would like to know about. Seperate Ways sure did leave out questions unanswered about her ways and such. :O

You get the RCPD Special Uniform and Infinite Rocket Launcher and Matilda (both you have to buy) after finishing it once. The bonus games modes have the extra weapons though completing the Mercenaries sub-game is going to take me ages to get the Handcannon. But I'd like the Armour costume for Ashley. That'd come in handy!
But on the Pro level you can't use any unlocked weapon?

Nope, not on the first run. You can use any special uniform, though. But, once you complete one game, then you can use the specialty weapons.

Ahhrgh. Oh well, guess i'll be trying the pro game soon.

What? Anyway, i just started on Pro Mode, seems harder so far, less ammo, and it takes more shots to kill the Ganados. Anyway, i'm using the special costumes 2, so Leon is wearing a gangster outfit! He looks sort of cool but also strange. Anyway, if ashley is wearing a suit of armour it will make the game easier

If you get the Chicago Typewriter with that costume, try reloading the weapon! You get this cool kind of emote. :O
Actually, there's two different kinds. One, he tips his hat. Second, when actually takes out the clip and reloads it! Odd, the clip is not the drum magazine seen with the gun normally, but the 30 shot straight clip used in WWII.

I'm probably going to buy this game next Friday when I get paid. I've always been a huge fan of the RE games, the storylines always really pulled me in. Plus, when RE5 comes out for the next-gen consoles I want to be up to date on everything that's happening. :D With all the stuff I've read online and heard from friends about RE4, it seems to be a must-play. One question: Is it still as scary/creepy/tense as the old RE games? I've seen a lot of screens of fighting outdoors in brighter environments, and I'm just wondering if that takes away from any of that.

It's pretty varied. Personally I found the castle levels less effective than the village or lab areas on the Island level. I must admit the first time a chainsaw wielding psycho runs at you it makes you kinda nervous!
Some of the levels are certainly creepy. Whether or not they scare you is down to how excitable your imagination is. But Resi 4 is far more action orientated than previous Resi's.
It is also pretty long too. It took me 23 hours to finish my game, though I did faff about a bit.
It's a great game. The controls are typically Resi, that is they're a bit crap. But really it's the best game I've played all year.

Resident Evil Two will always be the scariest, I think. But only because so many people think so. It was a great game, though.

Resident Evil 4 is mostly creepy, buy not really scary. It has some surprise shock moments, but they don't hapen often. The music and sound effects are the reason this game is so creepy. But, just because it's more creepy than scary doesn't mean it wont give you a fright.

Again, the typical horrible RE charater controls exist, but they aren't as bad as RE:CVX or others. There are some cool new moves, but you have to wait for a prompt to appear to activate them. I hated that, BTW. The moves are either a round-house kick, or a suplex which kills the enemy. I only made about three suplex moves which makes me feel a little bit cheated. Your character mostly does the round-house kick.

The weapons are fun and awesome. They really did it great this time. Looking for treasures and money is now critically important.

The one really big thing I hated about this game is Ashley. A good portion of this game is an escort mission. If you're like me, you might not be to crazy for that kind of game play. That's the only thing I hated about the MGS games, too. But, maybe I'm too picky.

There are the usual unlockables, too. A Tommy Gun, infinity rocket launcher, Handcanno pistol, PRL 412 (Plagas Removing Rifle) among others. There are of course uniform unlockables as well as game feature unlockables.

Whatever you pay for it, it's 100% worth it. It's definitely a must buy!

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

Don't forget Ada's Seperate Ways game! :O Her game have a good 3+ hours of solid gameplay that makes the PS2 version better than the GC verion in my opinion.

I bought it last nite, and got up to the first time you see the gun dealer. I friggin' love this game so far. When I was defending that house in the village and people were busting in from every window and door I was in love. I like how it is more action oriented than the old ones, it's still tense, but not as tense as the older ones for PSOne. :scared: I'll post more as I get farther into the game. :)

That's a great point in the game. Make sure, if it's your first time through, that you buy the sniper rifle, and before opening the door to continue, snipe about six or seven badies over the wall. You will need to move to two spots on the wall that have craks for you to peek over.

Hiya! :D :O  Meow! (='.'=)

Don't forget to get those two key pieces that will be combined to open the door to the north. 👍 You could actually run past all the guys to grab two pieces, combine them and open the door without wasting ammo. :O

I disagree (sorta).

At this point in the game on your first run through, it's easy to be short on money.

My suggestion, use the money planned for a rifle and buy power upgrades for the pistol.
Then roll through this area of the game like McLaren's Angel mentioned (as to save ammo).

I wouldn't suggest buying a rifle until you can afford the semi-auto version (if there is one in the ps2 version).

Also, if it's not too late for you to do so...
Saleen Man!
There is a free shot gun early in the game.

When you make it to the main area of the village, where the bell rings...
In a building on the left hand side (coming from the path where you used binoculars), there is a 2-story building.
On the second floor there is a glass case right next to the stair way.
In that case is a standard shotgun.

If you haven't progressed too far, I suggest you start up again and get that sucker. 👍

Also, when you do go to get it, don't go running into the building until after the bell has been rung.
If you do go in before that bell, a chain saw killer will come after you and those are some tough dudes. :p

Good luck.

Btw, did you all see that "spike tv" awarded RE4 game of the year?
I totally agree to be honest.
Although it isn't my favorite game of all time, I would have to say it is the most widely appealing game I've played in a long time.
All of my other favs are special interest... one fighting game, one driving game, one flight game, don't have a fav fps... So, RE4 covers the action-adventure-shoot'em up that I don't get anywhere else. :p

In anycase, I thought it was cool to see RE4 get some respect. 👍

I only ever used the sniper rifle/semi-auto rifle occasionally or when really needed. I don't like blasting some villager or mad monk too far away because you'll lose whatever they drop as the item only lays around for 20 or 30 seconds or so. However it is great fun to use. And because it can be quite powerful I do use them up close too as long as I'm not surrounded.

It's a shame there wasn't a secret melee weapon you could use instead of the knife like a sword or something. I remember in Silent Hill 3 you could get something very similar to a light sabre! It was bright green too! Was there a Resident Evil game with a chainsaw in? Or did I dream it?

Well thanks for all the advice. First, yes I did get that shotgun, I ran in the house that it's in right after I grabbed the shotgun shells that were in the other houses. Then I defended that house downstairs while hordes of them came in from everywhere, haha. That chainsaw guy was no match for the shotgun and the grenade that followed though. ;) As for upgrading and such, I think I'm going to buy that first rifle and not bother upgrading the pistol or shotgun. I'll save money for better guns later in the game.

Just don't bother to buy the Punisher and the Broken Butterfly. You'll get those two for free. Sell the Punisher, and buy the Blacktail. Make sure not to sell any Magnum ammo when you come across it if you plan to keep the BB.

Solid advice. 👍

Keep the Broken Butterfly if you can. 👍
It can hit with serious power after upgrades. :trouble:

Also, I'm glad to see Saleen Man picked up the shotgun.
As for upgrading... Do what you feel is best. :dopey:
All the advice in the world can't account for how you play the game as an individual. :D

Since I haven't played game in a while I will end up on the gamecube tonight just to get a RE4 fix. :sly:

Btw, has anyone here played both the gamecube and ps2 versions of this game?

Finally got the 2nd Special Costumes and the Chicago Typewriter. I think that's my favourite weapon. And Ashley running around in the armour! Yep, she's used as bait a fair bit! :trouble:
I had to laugh when I first had to catch her. Poor old Leon drops to one knee when he catches her and holds his hip in pain as he stands up. Nice detail. Great fun sticking dart mines in her whilst surrounded by Ganados!! :)
Now then, on to Pro Level! :scared:
