wow, truly an amazing set of photos. Great, great job Tim, this reminds me of "The Big Picture" from the Boston paper, journalistic quality!

Especially love the one of the "fire" dust cloud lit up by the brakes. Magnificent.

The one of Nep passing chorda's just class :).

Great pics and great report on my luckiest race ever so far at GTP:D. Great fun, Le Mans provides great fun, close racing, due to GT5's draft.

It's like I just relived the race again. First class stuff there Dr.👍
I have to wonder, did chorda know I wouldn't catch him? Or was it panic until he reached the line? Obviously it wasn't to close, but I don't think he had any way of knowing how close anyone was...

indianapolis adds another log to the fire as I got a wheel in the grass under breaking

with dawn rising Welsh-Bain had pulled out a good lead after the pit window closed

These are wonderful shots. 👍

Sorry I couldn't make the race, bromigos. I had to stop in my hometown on the drive back from my weekend trip whereupon I was sucked into the black hole that is my parent's house.

Thanks 👍

I've noticed that the lighting on the day/night/weather tracks is significantly better that the other tracks.
You get warm glows, harsh shadows, and the artificial lighting on the trees looks perfect at night. They definitely spent a lot more time on updating the lighting on those tracks then they did updating car models.

I find this photomode comp worthy, tbh.

I think you have a gift, good doctor.💡

Thanks, I used to do those in GT4 but it gets tedious. Race photos are much more fun. 👍
Be nicer if the car didn't have it's nose in the air like some sort of snob. I hope they fix the reverse-rake in spec2; takes some of the fun out of wide-angle panning shots when you have to run wheelies to get the car to turn.

edit: oh and of course everyone's favorite is me driving off the road. :ouch:

I think a lot of that has to do with squat from acceleration, rather than de-rake from the setup.

Don't want to throw a log on the fire here, but there's nothing such as "reverse-rake"..

By softening the front, the grip tends to increase initially. A hard set up makes the car "plow" more. What I think people are experiancing when setting the front higher, is increase in initial grip, and therefore, the rear tends to be thrown around more aggressive, wich create a feeling that the back end want to go wide (Oversteer).
But it's not caused by the high front, it's caused by the relation "turn in/momentum" rather than a "soft rear creates oversteer"-kind-of oversteer..

Just my 2 c. :scared:

I see what you're thinking. So by that one should be able set a 0/0 ride height then stiffen rear spring and soften front. Get the same effect as reverse rake ride height changes?

On the ride height. Lower Center of gravity keeps car flatter. Giving more grip. However the game seems to do as you say plow with a lower car. There is also the chance we are all to low to start with. Maybe go full height and work down. . .

I am gonna stop and suggest a chat group of a privates sorts. One where the guys that have good set ups and know some real world physics and set up, can have great tuning discussion. :)

Wardez? You're savvy on this sorta thing. If interest is there would you throw something together?

* Low center of gravity: GOOD
* Low center of gravity providing more grip: Can be true, but far from always.

A setup is very complicated, and every setting affect another one, more or less. By just raising the front, and thru that, experiance more oversteer is not enough proof for me.
I believe that GT5 physics are far more complex than we know/guess. I do not think for a second that PD should deliver such a major screw up (And not have it fixed).
We also need to keep in mind that the majority of us racing this game do not have the knowledge regarding this at all. A "quick-tip" that help us to get what we want from changing settings is welcome, and since it in most cases are concidered to be true (Raising the front for more oversteer/rotation), this is what will be concidered "truth".

I do not concider my self any wiser than any one else, but from my experiance when trying this, I can defenetly see why people feel more oversteer from a higher front, but I think it's too easy to come to that conclution from it.
I can def feel the car rotating more as I said, but I do feel that it's because of a more responsive front end, that are not "plowing". It's def the front that is affected, and not the rear in any way.
This subject is far to complex for me to make you guys see what I meen. I got a ton of thoughts that I want to write now, but I don't do that since my english keeps me from getting it right. Discussing a subject like this requires correct english, and terms to make you guys able to read what I try to say.. Sorry.. Perhaps I'll try google translate for the complicated parts.. 💡

Hmmmm, I have been trying to put my thoughts on each settings factor in handling for some time, but it is, as you say, quite difficult to describe, so I've resorted to "simple" versions.
I've taken any real world factors out of play tbh, as whether or not any of it is realistic has proven highly debatable in the past, and frankly, I'm just interested in what works in the game anymore.
I'll try to make a simplistic version covering everything from what I know if anyone's interested, or possibly Owens idea of making a group or whatever to discuss it, I'm always willing to try other ideas from what I've found, that's what gotten me the knowledge I already have, as I was 100% clueless before I started looking around at what other people said to do.

Now if only our C6Rs sounded like Tommy's.

UPDATES!

We're taking this next week as another break. The series has been cut down to 4 races in order to make way for FMSC (uses the same time slot) . We're going to be using the weak slipstream option.

The final race will be at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps!

Can't wait! AHHH!!!

Freakin AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! Spa is such an AWESOME circuit!! Prob the best in the world!!

Isn't it-juuuuust-beautiful?

SPA was one of my most favorite tracks from SHIFT next to the Ring. Hopefully all those hours learning that track from that game will pay of in GT5.

Hmm, well I just looked at a vidoe of Spa in Shift. GT5's should be more accurate so the elevation change should be different in GT's version. Not as much, it should also be tigher, Shift's seems too wide.

Also, the old bus stop chicane's no longer being used in F1 so, unless GT5 has the two layouts of the track (bus stop, or new chicane), which I doubt, we'll be running the new chicane that goes right instead of left before the finish line.

Other than that it's pretty much the same, you should be good to go 👍

Are you all going to be getting the Car Pack as well? I'll be getting the bundle package since its cheaper then getting the car and track pack individually. I will for sure make it to the Spa race since that is happening after all my exams and stuff.

Off-topic: Is any one else experiencing uncontrollable excitement for this month? 1. I just got NHL 12, 2. GT5 Spec II just came out, 3. Massive DLC for GT5 comes out the day before my birthday, 4. Battlefield 3 comes out on my reading week...... This is like a god send, it honestly is!

Course Pack (2 tracks, 5 layouts)
I think we'll get both, I'm not sure of the difference you speak of yet, but I'm sure both are great.

I'll be getting the "bundle", but possibly only this time, Spa was the most important track not in GT5 to me.
But the price is way to high, IMO.

hmm... 2 tracks. wonder if that means we're getting Infinion back.
IIRC that would provide at least 2 layouts. (NASCAR and GT)

$12 for all the DLC? Thats cheap IMO. Games like COD charge you more for like 4 maps ffs!!

Click on it man!
It's Spa, a kart track that's indoors, with a total of 5 variants.
Meaning 3 "variants" of these two not listed, so I assume Spa will have both versions, if not a third as well.

For essentially (for me) 1 track, I find $6 outrageous.
At that rate a 60 dollar game would have 10 tracks....and no cars.

Just saying the price is too high imo.

This will be the first time I bought a DLC for any game, so I'm obviously excited. Price seems fine to me but everyone different. People find value in things I don't and vice versa.

ahh... that's a shame... can't click at work. Proxy is pretty aggressive at finding gaming sites. Still pretty shocked that these forums get through, though none of the images do. Smilies avatars etc... are all just broken image boxes. Text and CSS is good enough to be functional though. ;)

And yeah, I agree with you. $12 is a bit over priced, especially given that Forza just dropped and they should have had this DLC out 8 months ago. Should have priced it much more aggressively. I would have said $8.99 is *fair* with $5 for early adopters.
PD is very behind the curve when it comes to supporting an online community. Which is pretty silly considering they've had a strong one since GT2 when we were all just grinding time trials.

Well when you get home you'll like what you see, I don't care for karting tracks much myself, but this neon glowing indoor one looks fantastic. 👍

It will be the first karting track I truly learn in the game, I guarantee it.

Go-karting series anyone?
